  1. Don't give a toss about your sanity, if you can't deal with people having a different opinion than yours then don't come on here. Don't agree with Graham Poll, but there he may be a more experienced ex-referee than me, but in my opinion he is incorrect. In my opinion and many others, it was not a penalty, and everyone seems to agree it shouldn't have been a red card. Fletcher had already played the ball (and it was going wide). Forster did not clatter into Fletcher, Poll is completely wrong on that. The fact that Fletcher did not appeal speaks volumes to me. He knew it wasn't a penalty.
  2. Whatever happened to that old tumble down ramshackle ground they used to call Fratton Park? I bet that's been bulldozed by now and made into something useful.
  3. It wasn't a penalty because fletcher had already played the ball (and flicked it wide) before he was caught. The commentator (Jonathan ?)on MOTD actually got this right, and he was about the only one who did, fair play. Mind you just about everything else he said was crap, including the reference to the Man U game when he claimed the 6-3 win was the grey shirts one.
  4. My memory is all due to Fitzhugh Fella. It was the season before my first game - glory hunter once we got to the 1st division, been waiting for the glory ever since :-) Brought in as a replacement for Campbell Forsyth when he broke his leg. In an era when playing with a Scottish goalkeeper was considered akin to playing with 10 men we played three different Scots in the one season, Forsyth, MacLaren and the great Eric Martin.
  5. One of the clearest own goals ever, I really don't know what some people on here are on. The keeper saved the initial shot. It squirmed out from him and the defender took the ball forward and then got the ball caught up in his feet and put the ball back over the line. Comedy defending by Bridcutt.
  6. Dave MacLaren, but we didn't sign him until the next season (after we were promoted).
  7. Nope, have no sense of anything that you are apparently seeing. His distribution is fine, his tenacity yesterday to win the ball three times in one on ones to get the ball upfield was something else. He is also good at getting forward from the back and starting moves from midfield. The only place where I see him not being particularly effective is in the opponent's penalty area, one area where we have not been so good so far this year is our CBs getting goals,,but its early days. Very impressed with Toby so far, we will see how good he is if/when Jose misses a game or two and Toby plays on the right with either Maya or Florin.
  8. 9-3, 2nd division, 1965.
  9. Really? Looks to have fitted in seamlessly to me, upgrade on Lovren, and another player made to look even better by the partnership with Jose.
  10. Clearly an own goal. Defence had 2 or 3 opportunities to clear. Shambolic defending.
  11. Unbelievable, the sad, desparate poster who has not grown up and put his playground days bbehind him.
  12. See Post #30, LGTL. Said it was worse than a pub league.
  13. Negative bile? Nothing negative in Charlie's post at all, and certainly no bile. what are you on?
  14. Where do you think I found out
  15. There is a reason of course, much harder for female keepers with the use of standard size goals. There are not many female keepers around with a similar stature to Desparate Dan. But Monkou is correct, individual skill level (for outfield players) is very high, there are many girls around who have technical ability equal to boys of similar age, despite some of the obstacles put in their way. The womens game is a "different" game in some respects, it relies more on individual skill rather then the physicality of the men's game. Would I go and watch it in preference to the men's game, no, but thats not the issue (I watched many girls league games as I was a coach for a few years). The big clubs (with the notable exception of Mid Table United) all have in-house womens teams now (Man City even had theirs parachuted into the WSL which was a disgusting treatment of Doncaster Belles), and you will find them completely integrated if you go to their web sites (look at Liverpool as an example, OK I know I said the big clubs). I think Saints, with their proud tradition in the female game should also be following this lead.
  16. What news would you be looking for. Was due back this morning as planned and looked at in training today according to RK (same as Mayuka)
  17. He will go to Napoli if/when he goes.
  18. I didn't jeer, but anyone who thinks Pelle's performance that day was anything other than woeful also deserves a slap. He was absolute pony. But I'm very glad that he has proved that initial impression wrong.
  19. Why is it incredible, we weren't even in the PL for 5 of those years? Only the 5th different saints player to win it ever (Beattie, Davies (Kev), MLT and Mickey Evans)
  20. Hugely under-rated by some on here and an unsung hero. Surely Turkish can make up a song for him then he could be a sung hero (Davis that is, not Turkish). Good news on the contract, did wonder whether he might be tempted back to Rangers once they get back to the SPL and qualify for Europe again.
  21. Didn't realise it was affiliated with Southampton Football Club. There is also St Helens RFC. I think you might have missed the point here
  22. Joel, he's actually their number 1.
  23. It really is nothing to do with people going to watch them play. Maybe these days its about the brand Southampton as much as anything. Almost all the top teams in the PL have associated women's teams in the top division (WSL, 8 teams), Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City, Everton and Arsenal). Only Manure are not represented. Is there any evidence to support this notion that we have more female supporters than other clubs?
  24. Men's or women's?
  25. The August winner was announced on 12 September. So it's due, maybe they are having difficulty deciding who the recipient should be.
