  1. As the Guinness Book of Soccer Facts was published in 1980, Lawrie would easily qualify. If it was published today, I suspect he wouldn't make the Top 100. Thats not to say that along with Ted, Lawrie wasn't the greatest thing (other than some players) ever to happen to Saints. It takes a particularly nasty type of so-called troll supporter to try to deny what anyone who has any feeling for the Club well knows. The Troll should just get over himself and go and live in the Cotswolds with the Dark Lord, his super hero.
  2. I think Doddsy has more sense than that, anyway he is at Lincoln
  3. Good luck to him, maybe come to Saints for a couple of loans if needed.
  4. Great midfielder for us, before he was sold to Man City to help fund Shilton's move to The Dell. City were relegated and he returned to Saints a couple of years later but injuries curtailed his career with us. Always thought he was top notch, but perhaps I was biased because he was a Baker like me (now don't go spoiling it by mentioning any other Saints players by that name).
  5. Needs a Photoshop job I think, getting a squad picture that contains all of the players would be a nightmare, the squad changes almost on a daily basis (which currently is a good thing).
  6. I wonder if Charlie would have been sacked if County had gone on to win 4 or 5-0 yesterday as it was looking against Torquay for the first 40 minutes. It was so one-sided to be not true, Poke kept the Gulls in the game several times. Problem is for Charlie that he couldn't change things once Torquay got a goal back and changed their approach. In the end Torquay should have won the game comfortably, Notts County had no answer and it was quite evident that the County management team were completely clueless on how to change things around when Plan A was matched by a manager with a bit of tactical nouse (Buckell). Reminded me of a certain Jock who used to manage us (not to mention some Dutch blokes as well).
  7. It always used to work, perhaps you just sing strangely The original song makes "goodbye" into 3 syllables, good-bye-ee sort of thing. Lallana also has 3 syllables
  8. People who believe that the people that believe in the Sky curse are idiots will be cursed as idiots
  9. Not sure why there is this ardent desire to be on the box, when we have such a good record in front of the cameras. Please Sky don't choose Saints, we would like to continue doing well.
  10. Ahem, I see you mean the Burley/SNODIN side, rather than the appalling team from Burley's last season. Current team would beat the Burley "lardy boys" side from the following season.
  11. Hopefully we aren't the Chelsea of this League. I think we may need to do some business in the transfer window in January, whereas Chelski cannot, and I also like the fact that we still have some young players around unlike Chelski who have an aging team. I would prefer to compare us with Man City rather than old money like Chelski LOL
  12. Seems far more likely than Downes to me, after all JG has unfinished business with Wycombe having left largely as a result of the very uinfortunate death of his wife. Perhaps he will ask Jason Dodd to be his assistant. Good luck to JG if this comes about, once upon a time he would have been good for us too, it was just very bad timimg when he actually got the chance.
  13. We used to sing this reglarly in the early 70s after the original by Steam was popular in 1969. The words were very original, Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, Southampton, repeat ad nauseum I guess an updated version would be good, and Lallana scans well. On the other had we could just use the old words again for the team which is more important to me.
  14. Chippenham still in after beating the Skates Reserves 2-1. Saints away to Chippenham still a possible.
  15. It was a draw, and always will be. We socred the same number of goals as Torquay during the period of normal play, ergo we drew. However, the rules of the competition require that in the event of a draw the tie will be decided by penalties. Therefore history will show that we progressed to the next round and Torquay were eliminated due to the way that drawn games are decided. The result of the Torquay game though is quite irrelevant, it is league matches against teams in the same division that matter and the 6 match form quide, which does not include the Torquay game is a good indicator of how we have been doing lately. 6 game form guides have been used as such for donkeys years. The one stat that doesn't lie is that at the end of today we will be 24th in Division 3. But a form guide is not an indication of where we will finish in the league, just how well we have been doing of late and possibly how we might fare in our next match. Where we will finish in the league also takes into account factors such as how many points we obtained during the first 6 games which account for approx 12% of the total points available. You can read what you want into all these stats, and the glass half full team will read them one way, while the glass half empty brigade will look at them another way. We should all just take heart that we have won 2 league games in less than a week, both convincingly and one at home and one away. No-one could argue with that being a good thing and something to be happy and encouraged about.
  16. Its not really the 1/4 final though, of course. It is only the regional 1/4 final, there are still 16 (17 actually) teams left.
  17. Great result we could be off the bottom in 8 days time, and we're only 12 points off the play-offs Things are beginning to look a bit brighter.
  18. Just goes to show that the Orange Order who were supposed to be great at working with youth had no idea, as they managed to make Lallana look very poor (and indeed he was awful even this season against Swindon for instance). But when you get good coaches, such as AP/DW and NP working with him he can be very good.
  19. Yep, just like he was on Tuesday, do try to keep up...
  20. Actually with the exception of Accrington, who are in dire financial straits, the above list shows that stability does provide some success. All the above apart for Stanley are actually performing pretty well in their own way (had to check the Daggers because I wasn't sure but 3rd in Div 4 is not bad)
  21. Would be surprised if Lordswood was referring to you WestonSaint. I know who I thought it referred to when I read his reply, since he was quoting.
  22. Full of gas?
  23. Stats say he has made 1 appearance, none as sub... Overrated, largely because he lacked pace, though that could have just been another Burley legacy I suppose.
  24. So that would explain why we spent 1m euros on Spiderman then. Its amazing that still now a small number of people don't understand that when JP was appointed we were not (totally) skint. We did not go over our overdraft limit until well into the season, as noted by Lowe himself. We were not awash with money when Poortvliet was appointed of course but things got worse afterwards. And the reason for that was because Lowe appointed JP (and Wotte) instead of realising that you can still be successful with no money by making sure you have the right manager/type of manager in place and not by mad experiments with untried inexperienced foreign coaches with no knowledge or understanding of the English league system.
  25. Thought Davenport was seriously injured in a knife attack by his sister's boyfriend. A team that includes Quashie will get relegated...
