  1. It seems a pretty logical thing for them to do. Another paper breaks a story they didn't know anything about. The Echo Logically then would contact someone in the know to confirm or deny it. The ITK person confirms it so they print it.
  2. >>> if it wasn't done before squad fly off to Miami, they would move on. So, with Rickie wanting to go, could Saints deny him >>> That's just Liverpool trying to play hard ball if true. We would have been well within our rights to say fine, move on, and i fully expect liverpool would have come back after the World Cup (Unless Lambert was injured).
  3. Collymore? Isn't that the guy who swore he'd never use twitter and even made talk sport refuse to acknowledge it till they sorted out their bullying policy. I assume it has changed now then. I must have missed the big announcement.
  4. Yup, forgot about Jay Rod. However I think that historically our biggest signings haven't alwasy been the best players. i understand that there will be successes and failures in transfers. However i believe the biggest money signings should usually be successes. Over the 25 years I've been aware of Saints transfers, I always felt that hasn't been the case. Sometimes they have worked but nowhere near as much as they should. Unfortunately Wii is lacking in info on this and I can't be bothered to look it In That number to back this up so I' really just going by memory, which my be wrong. however I do think it would be interesting to compare who our transfer successes/failures were in regards to money spent with other clubs. At 3m, Mayuka is still a big outlay. If he never plays for us again I think he will be a bad signing. At that momey you could probably get a league 1 player who will do a better job.
  5. The trouble with Saints is it's often the record/big buys that go badly. Since our first 1m play Macloughlin, every record signing bar possibly Delap has been poor.
  6. If Chelsea are House Tyrell that means Ashley Cole is Margery. Whoring himself out to whoever looks like being in power.
  7. I don't really care about whether the company are known or not. Just how much money they are giving us. If it's a few million, then all good. If it's less than a million, then this is pretty poor.
  8. I've converted all my old saints tapes to DVD now. The ZDS I tapes off Sky is a great match. I'd forgotten Cockerill injuring Pearce. It was also surprising hearing Ruddock referred to as a cultured centre back. The History of the Saints video made around 91 is also good. Channon is hilarious and I love the old geezer who calls Charlie Wayman a poser. A lot of the videos of the season don't hold my interest though.
  9. Typical 'asking the ex-pro who used to play for the club' story. They usually have absolutely no more insight into what is going on at a club than you or I but because they used to play for the club, their opinion it is apparently more important and newsworthy. Mainly because the news paper/TV station needs people to believe the ex pro's opinion is newsworthy enough to read the paper or watch the TV programme. I have nothing against Oakley giving an opinion but people should give no importance to what he says.
  10. Debating is a generous word. Most of the time it's just people stating their opinion then continually using the same bit of evidence to spport why they are right. Very little peoper debatimng goes on here and and the end of the day, every still feels the same way going at as going in.
  11. I think anyone who is youth, acts like a lout and wears designer clobber like burberry is a chav, regardless of class. Anyway...Southampton Football Club.
  12. Isn't it classist to assume all people in Thornhill, Lordshill, Millbrook and Swaythling are working class. Can't there be middle class chavs in those areas?
  13. Because I'm a relapsed season ticket holder/current plastic, I've not been to any home games this season. My friend is a season ticket holder. I would not expect me to get a ticket ahead of people who have actually been to games just because my mate has a season ticket. I know it used to be a perk but I never thought it could be justified. I have absolutely no problem with it and i don't expect many season ticket holders do. If you want priority for a ticket for yourself, either get a ticket or go o lots of games.
  14. Yup, after giving a less experienced (non Champions League) person the chance last time and it failing, they will want someone with proven track record this time.
  15. How many other examples are there of players who had a poor and injury prone 1st 2 seasons at a club coming good in the end for that club? And how many of those were players were bought from abroad with no premier league experience?
  16. The fact that we have only won 1 against a top 10 side is merely an indicator of our strengths and weaknesses. Same as the fact the we have lost more games form winning positions than anyone else. If you want to look for negative spin, look at those. Likewise I'm sure there are stats that put us in a positive light. At the end of the day, the only one that really counts is league position. All the spin in the world can't change that.
  17. I had a season ticket in the Junior Saints Section for a few years. It was bloody good that parents could drop kids off at ground well before game and pick them up well after end (I think for free) in the knowledge they'd be well looked after. I know they used to choose the mascot from the Junior Saints and as I got older (Secondary school) I remember being scared get picked and all my mates would laugh at me. never was tohugh, I do think they fixed who got picked even back in them days. No one over 11 was ever mascot. My favourite memory was playing Shef Wed and all the Junior Saints shouting boo at Gary Megson and him shouting "Boo to you too" back at us. I hated him for years because of that. How dare he boo me?
  18. Hopefully, without wishing to start another irrelevant nationalist argument to the debate, if Scotland vote for independence, the home nations agreement will be void.
  19. But according to Wiki (which admittedly may not be true) Farah's Dad was born in England, grew up in Hounslow and is a British Citizen.
  20. What about someone born in Britain to Kenyan parents who moved just before his/her birth? They would have the same 'biological advantages' but have British passport straight form the off and would be representing their country of birth.
  21. I based my opinion he was going to be off in the summer on the grounds that he said he would leave if NC left. Yes he said he changed his mind but whose to say he wont change it again in the summer.
  22. get decent wifi
  23. Football is about villains as well as heroes. Yes everyone here loves Saints and wants them to do well but it's also about wanting other teams/players/managers you don't like (for whatever weird or justified reason) to lose. I doubt many people watch games as 100% pure neutrals, the passion of watching a team you dislike is just as valid as that of watching one you like. I see nothing wrong in wanting Rednapp to lose every single match he's involved in.
  24. Because if he doesn't get a heavy punishment, then there is less motivation for other managers to restrain themselves in future. Without getting into a discussion about the merits and flaws of the criminal justice system, it's the same reason as why there is punishment for any crime. To act as a deterrent for others. In the past maybe it hasn't happened for managers because of fear of what might happen to them. If they just get a rap on the knuckles then they may as well figure what the hell. Personally I think managers should be more accountable than players for their actions but then I think if the book was thrown at people for everything wrong with the game (disrespect to refs, diving etc) then it would be stamped out pretty easily.
  25. The fact that it has rarely happened before suggests most other managers, even in the heat of the moment, can restrain themselves. Pardew couldn't yesterday in a nothing game his team were cruising to a win in. Whilst the head butt may have been minor the action against him should not be. Otherwise managers will start getting physically more often.
