Lineker/Bierhoff spotted in town on deadline day. wotshisname's boat in the marina.

The only way I can think he might have been better off if he stayed a year or 2 longer with us is he improved so much that a top CL club bought him from us instead of Spurs and he might have won some trophies. Otherwise he's done rather good for himself leaving when he did.

Hell No!

We have done very well recently to not get rid of our best players. If it happens again the summer I will be very surprised. I'll even be pleased if we only lose 1.

I think i changed more than this place. In Saintsweb I mainy posted in the Lounge, often starting threads and having a laugh as much as possible. Once you had to pay to make more than 3 posts, I refused to cough up and stopped posting so much. For some reason I can't explain i spend very little time in here and mostly just look at the Saints page. And when i post it's very rare for it to be a cheerful one.

If the original poster could list all the clubs he or she considers to be bigger than Southampton, it would make life a lot easier. A few good shouts have been made but they seem to have been shot down in flames. I went by ground size and how long they spent in top flight football. However if you are going to limit to recent history, there needs to be a date from when the comparison can start.

Charlton are similar, Fulham,

Norwich, Coventry

Apologies if this has been already posted but for some reason my basic Virgin package is including BT sport today so I can watch the game. Hopefully it's same for everyone.

why league season isn't ordinary - Man U's rivals?
oldskoolsi replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
Last time we finished above them was 89/90. We were 7th. They finished 13th. -
I hear George Weah's cousin is interested.

The 4-2 3 formation is a bit of a phalacy. We didn't play it anywhere near as much as people think. When i think of that formation I think 89-90 with Matty, Rod , Shearer and Tiredout but we only played it for about 10 league games that season according to In That number. We played 4-3-3 much mor eoften. I think Nicholl did pretty good with not much money. We were one of the biggest teams screwed by the European ban. Someone with bette rinfo might be able to provide more info but before the ban we had established players on big wages. As soon as Nicholl came along, we had the European ban and I don't think he ever signed a first division player. He always bought cheap players from lower leagues and got the best out of them or played the kids. That said I think it's telling he took so long to get back in football management and never with a top team. He was a cheap manager to hire with no experience of management. When he was appointed I think it gave a good indication of where the club was going and how much they were prepared to spend for the next few years till Souness became manger.

Listening to Matty on Soccer Saturday last week I found it laughable he claimed NC going wouldn't make much difference. Especially as a lot of people are saying the main reason Man U have struggled this year I losing Gill not Fergie. I had to switch it iff when I actually started thinking Thompson was talking sense. Matty says it all revolved around NC, means he admitting we can all than Cortese for the 2 promotions and where we are in the league. As for him knowing 'the truth' about things behind the scenes, I assume that includes him spouting off about the turnaround of staff being high without backing it up with any facts. Unless there is proof that I staff turnaround is significantly higher than other premier league clubs, this means absolutely nothing.

I think on here people have always had time for him. No doubt that putting his own money in to keep the club going makes him a top bloke. I just question how good a chairman he was. The fact there are still arguments suggests for some people it is cut and dry exactly what happened. Personally, as time goes on my brain makes things less and less clear. i would like nothing better than for someone to point me to a well researched, accurate account of what happened in the years leading up admin. I doubt it is possible though and that reason I suspect you will always get wildely (excuse the pun) different interpretations.
-
Very true. However, I think I'd rather have a good chairman like NC than a good bloke.
-
Just because he was willing to put his own money to save the club, doesn't make him a good chairman.

I don't think it would become a free for all. The best Scottish/Welsh/Northern Irish players would still opt to play for their countries through some national pride. I think if yo gave Gareth Bale the choice of playing for England or Wales, he'd still choose Wales. However average to good English players who didn't have a sniff of playing for England might accept any offer of international football ala Republic of Ireland.
-
So because England opted out of the rule he can't play for England? Obviously you couldn't keep opting in and then out to suit your needs but what is it possible for England to change their minds and sign up to the rule?
-
If it was said directly after his shooing away actions then i have no problem with it. That was behaviour of a w***er and deserves whatever he got as part of banter in match. Otherwise not a fan of it.

Depends what c word was used. If it's the really bad one then I know a lot of people who consider it worse than racist language. For them, it's the worst thing you can say ever.
-
He gave England debuts to Owen and Beckham, who played for those small clubs Liverpool and Man U? What a shining example of picking gifted, mistrusted players from small clubs.

One that doesn't usually get a mention but was great is Carnivale. It's about a travelling circus travelling around depression era USA with a supernatural bit. Very good and unfortunately cancelled after 2 series. Also Freaks and Geeks. Early Judd Apatow stuff about early 1980's school kids. The fact it's Apatow shouldn't put you off. For me, he did his best stuff on TV when he had to edit out the fluff to fit into a timeslot.

The 2 things I require a journalist to do: 1. Get their facts right. 2. Ensure their writing has no grammatical or spelling errors. Unfortunately that rarely seems to happen.

What about the security cameras inside that can be moved around to focus on individual seats?

Should MP be sacked if we don't get 3 points at Anfield?
oldskoolsi replied to SaintBobby's topic in The Saints
Not me, we've still only scored 3 goals this season. Considering the amount of money we've spent it's simply not good enough. I think it's time for MP to go.
