  1. I've read a lot of talk about freedom on this thread. The reason I choose to wear a poppy is to remember the people who had no freedom to choose about whether to fight or not because of conscription. They had very little say in whther they fought or not but still did it. If there was another World War and Ireland/UK introduced conscription (I'll admit this is an unlikely prospect but still) then the Sunderland player plus a lot of people on this site will have to fight whether they like it or not no matter how rich he is. I hope it never happens but anyway, as I said, that's why I like to wear the poppy.
  2. Part of the vocal minority and I for one never want to bury my part in it. I'm still glad he never came back.
  3. if Matt is now saying we should ask why does NC hate him, I would ask Le Tiss, what has NC done to make him think he hates Matt? As far as I can see all his actions have been against all ex-players and not against particular people. It was his policy no to have freebees not matter who you are. I'm happy to be proved wrong though.
  4. This sums up what I hate about most current festivals and Glasto in particular. I never understand the idea of going to a music festival for the vibe or whatever. I go to see music. If bands I like are playing I want to go and if they're not then i don't. Why pay £200 quid to sleep in a tent just for the atmosphere?
  5. On the grounds that I think that the best songs should be stolen from cheesy songs and not enough has been taken from the 80's how about: (To the tune Stevie Wonder I just called to say I love you) I just called to say...Southampton I just called to say how much I care I just called to say-ay...Southampton And I mean it from the bottom of my heart Although I think it would be better to sing this in a pub after an important win Also surely come on Eileen or Prince Charming could be mined for some genius.
  6. Obviously not current squad
  7. Shearer, Flowers, Kenna and Ripley at Blackburn
  8. SOmeof those players weren't bought as league one players though. So I don't think it's far to say if they are a success they have improved beyond all expectations.
  9. Love the claim on the website tht it was put up 45 mins ago.
  10. I though 29K was pretty good going compared to our usual first home games attendance when we were last in prem.
  11. Think I was rumbled by the reply though. I had no idea Whittingham is a coach. Guess the bloke as a bit o SOH to reply. H emust know most comments are from saints fans.
  12. Cheers, must have been done a long time ago as I've had Guilford Post code for 5 years+. Unless it always shows where it was created. I'm a bit ignorant of these things.
  13. I've only started reading this thread for post couple hundred of pages so don't know if it's been already covered but I tried to register for POL to have a look at what they're saying about today's events and my email is banned. I know from the sounds of it people who have posted there and been suspected of being scummers have been banned but I didn't realise they were into pre-emtive banning. I wonder how they got my emial address to ban it. :/
  14. At the Olympics taekwondo I sat next to a qualified taekwondo trainer and he said the must was the best thing that was going on, although it was the prelims and so, apparently there were not any good fights. I don't know why it's there for all the events but I'd imagine for the minority sports it helps distract people from realising they have no clue what's going on, or that's it's really dull. It's worked for me.
  15. "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it." - Gobbels, although Wiki spoils the fun by saying it's a misquote.
  16. I had big problems with BT when I moved just down the road. reading other poster's comments hat seems to be a problem. They never cancelled my first line and tried to make me pay for it. As soon as contract was up I joined Virgin. i had a lot of issues at the start trying to get decent broadband, but, touch wood, no probs for a while. At the moment i consider Virgin to be the lesser of 2 evils but I'm sure that will change as soon as I get a problem. Student loans company are awful. They owe me £1500. I would advise ANYONE who has recently paid off thier loan to check to haven't overpaid. It's disgraceful you can't even see how much you owe or when it will be paid off on the webite. No one working there knows either. It's always just estimated and it is up to you to contact them if you think your loan is coming to an end. I suppose this is one of the reason why they are so cheap,no moeny is pent on frilly things like a good website or customer service. I don't really have a problem with the Apple genius was of doing things. When I have a problem I book an appointment at West Quay and it's sorted. It's a different way of working and yes, they are very condescending. Whenever it has been under warranty they fixed it no probs unless it was my fault (like the time i spilt red wine on my laptop, however i was able to get that back on house inusrance).
  17. Loves the Olympics. Hate opening/closing ceremonies. Take forever and all about spending more money than the time before. Usually very little to do with sport too.
  18. reading the article we've been the only club to offer a payment. I'd like to think this was from the goodness of our heart but I suspect there is some clever reason for us not trying to get him on a free.
  19. My sister used to live on Claremont Crescent, small world.
  20. I'm not that bothered with WOW signings. Nowadays most really good wow signings rather than just 'big name players' are well out of our price range. WOW signings that we could get prob have baggage with them (attitude, injuries, past it)
  21. To be fair in the article, David James referred to the Beattie case as an extreme one but he also said you shouldn't discuss what happens in the England camp with anyone and gives the example of not telling Rio how training went. Matt failed to do this.
  22. The only reason I can possibly imagine he stays on he he realises once his contract is up he will never get a contract anywhere else. He just know he's not that good. I'd imagine for a professional footballer to not play a game regularly must be pretty deflating so I'd imagine he's not enjoying his job. He also must know he is not any good at his job and again anyone in that position usually takes steps to change either their employer or what they do. He gets no sympathy from me.
  23. Not wishing to be paranoid about police brutality but why does the CCTV cut out just as he's being forced onto the ground?
  24. It was no win situation for Lowe. I he sacked him it would look like he sacked him over allegations and if he'd stuck by him, then we may well have gone down.
