George Galloway wins Bradford West byelection - fluke or...
SuperMikey replied to saintbletch's topic in The Lounge
Or perhaps it suggests that most of our politicans just don't have a clue how to connect with regular people? Especially those of different ethnic backgrounds. Credit to Galloway for winning a difficult vote imo, and I would love to see more British politicans taking that extra step to connect with the people that they represent. I wonder how often MPs who represent constituencies with larger proportions of ethnic minorities actually spend talking to them and seeing what they want from a politician? -

Oh, the irony. I don't know, perhaps the bit where he stated that Galloway winning a by-election is conclusive proof that multiculturalism in this country has failed? In fact, all the other bits are wrong (imo) as well. To state that the Muslim community 'rocks the boat' is just absurd as well, based on this particular election. Labour has lost a lot of voters because of the economic mess, the Conservatives haven't helped in the slightest because of their budgets and general f*ck ups since they came to power, and the Lib Dems have no clout or dignity after being made the Tory's whipping boys. As others have said, Galloway campaigned very effectively to gain the votes of the people in that region. Votes for parties other than the Big 3 are in no way to be taken as a statement that multiculturalism has failed...what a ridiculous idea. I think it's evident from his posts on here that Dune is a particularly paranoid individual, given his constant attacks on the Muslim community and also the fact that he likes to try and pin anything on ethnic minorities. I don't think that Islam in the UK has a particularly good image, but that's mostly because of the way that it is represented in the mainstream media. The media plays on the paranoia of their audience by constantly illustrating the most extreme and radical elements in order to propagate and promote a bad representation of Islam as a whole. The worst thing is that people actually believe it. What exactly are the ways in which the Muslim community 'rock the boat'? By voting in elections? By 'coming over here, taking our jobs'? Good. Surely that means that multiculturalism hasn't failed? If Muslim people in this country are voting then I think that's a fantastic thing, because it suggests an amount of integration. Just because people can have a different cultural and ethnic identity to the majority of the population does not mean that they are not participating in our system. Thanks Turkish. -
Tony Lynam was part of the Pinnacle consortium along with Mickey Fialka and others. He used to post on the Takeover Thread (the Saints one, not the other one...) under his own name until things went t!ts up and he mysteriously disappeared from the board....

I feel sorry for you, really I do. Your world must be a very frightening one. -
Bloody hell, how useless is the girls team this year? They all seem f*cking clueless. Going into Amazon and asking them to put in an order for 1m units...absolutely ridiculous! Their product was sh!te as well. Should've fired all 3 imo. The boys actually seem like a pretty slick unit though, they all seem to know what they're doing and I think personally that only ego will put any of them in the firing line in the coming weeks. That idea for the gloves was terrible, but their composter is the perfect product to launch now. The design was spot-on and that wouldn't look out of place in somewhere like John Lewis - trendy metropolitan types would snap those like they were going out of style.

I'm going to be flying to Edinburgh while the game is on (5:15-6:40 I shall be in the air), hopefully might catch the last 10 minutes at the airport.

I'll be going to the KA as per usual. Doubt they'll turn away the hundreds of people that will want to come in for a post match tipple.

Club Finance Story - On Solent from 7am this morning
SuperMikey replied to saints_is_the_south's topic in The Saints
Great summary, and nothing to worry about in this set of figures. Even less for next year's figures when you take into account the AOC sale and the increased gate revenue and TV money. -
That'll never happen, ffs some of our fans are deluded.. ....the European Championships on the other hand...

I think Martin could be a good centre back in the future if he gets a little more composed on the ball. I feel that he has the natural ability to improve and become a first-teamer for us within 3 years. Unfortunately I don't think that Seaborne will make it though. Like I said, he seems like a good bloke and has done really well to get back from a potentially life-threating situation, but I can't see him making it at the level we're looking to progress to.
-
Come on, he was sh!te really. Nervy, out of position most of the time, got beaten in the air a lot and gave away needless fouls. Still, I watched the reaction video on SaintsPlayer from the U21 game he played in the other day and he seems like a good fella. I wish him luck, but I think if he wants to be playing first-team football it probably won't be here.

Who do you want to go up to and down from the Premiership?
SuperMikey replied to SaintBobby's topic in The Saints
Up: Saints - Obvious reasons... Reading - Local away day, they'll go down again quickly leaving a Leicester/Notts Forest/Derby/Boro to go up (i.e. a proper team). Brum - Quite like the club, my mate supports them and says he'll take me along to a Brum vs Villa game if they go up. Down: QPR - Don't like their fans much and the way they've dealt with their managers is appalling (almost as appalling as hiring Mark Hughes). Wigan - Overstayed their welcome in the top league at the expense of much bigger teams. Quite like Martinez though. Wolves - Also like the club but they need a fresh start. Get relegated, hire Lee Clark (or another talented young manager) and get better. -

Me and 3 of my mates got restricted view tickets this morning. Ought to be alright though. Buzzing for the game itself! -
F*ck no. I want us to win this league.

Haha, well there were 3000 students at Farny and the college car park itself holds about 250 cars. The college struck a deal to allow students to park at Farnborough FC's football ground during the day, although that still meant about 30-50 people had to park on the street as there weren't any spaces. My friend had paint thinner poured all over her car for parking outside some bloke's house. Anyway, the car park attendant was there to direct people to park and also to check permits. Pretty easy job tbh... No need for bike sheds, the place was like a f*cking orgy at times. I know somebody who claimed to have fingered his girlfriend during lunch break in one of the cafes on campus while about 400 people were in the room.

Getting my tickets tomorrow, can't wait! Don't give a f*ck if it's restricted view or not. -
If you go in a group of 4 you can get a group saver ticket for around £20 I believe. I got one for the Millwall game.

I love that video! Absolutely brilliant. -
I went to college in Farnborough, where there's also a large amount of Nepalese people. There were quite a few Nepalese people employed at the college (although not in great jobs - mainly cleaners, car park attendants etc) and a hundred or so Nepalese pupils. The integration point that Andy raised further up was also evident in the pupils at my college, who tended to just stand outside one of the computer labs and talk amongst each other. Same in classes too. It's not really too much of an issue that they do that, but it seemed that nobody was really interested in integrating them into the general student population, and it looks like that's the same for Nepalese people in the outside world as well. Either way, it was a pretty stupid thing for the MP to say - it's his responsibility to make sure they're not just sitting on benches and are actually doing something!
-
Yeah, but you're the only person who's still going on about it!
-
I've got a fiver on us winning the league as well. Put it on in October when our odds had shortened to 4-1 though, so only £20 back for me I think.
-
Wow, nice way to put it. I want NC in charge in the long term, because I finally feel that the club is being run properly, but if he and other interested parties decide to sell up then they'll certainly be leaving us in a better position than the one we were in 3 years ago.

Yeah, but most of our best youth players were rested as they'd played for the ressies (and a few for England youth teams I think) a few days before. I don't know why they haven't been using youth players already tbh, I would rather have a full bench with a few youth players on it than naming 3 first-team subs and leaving yourself short in some areas.
