Great story, Keith. I remember the 82 World Cup. Didn't Italian fans want Rossi omitted from the squad, yet he was included and was player of the tournament. A proper fox in the box. 64, no age.

Really? At his best, Armstrong would be in the team. But he's not been at his best for a few games, staying in because we needed him. Now we have Redmond and Ings back, I would play Theo on the right, Redmond on the left, Danny and Che up top.

The only part there that you have stated correctly is the final 2 words. I first gave you a restatement of the exact words I then retyped from laws of the game, as you didn't accept my first comment. Now you totally disregard the laws of the game typed for you, as you think you know better? It doesn't have to be holding specifically, that's what Law 12 says. In your interpretation, presumably you can bite, use a chainsaw etc because only holding is outlawed? The fouling started outside the box, continues inside the box, so IS a penalty. Simple really.
-
Yes, that's exactly what I saw too. Initially I thought it was Welbeck's handball, but when slowed down, agree it is Prowsey. If he was appealing for a handball by Welbeck, that would explain why his hand was raised.

(QUOTE STARTS HERE) Law 12 - Fouls and Misconducts Restart of Play * If a defender starts holding an attacker outside the penalty area but continues holding inside the penalty area, the referee shall award a penalty kick. Although the rule states holding, any foul that initiates outside the box and continues till the box will be punished with a penalty. (QUOTE ENDS HERE)

Rules of the game : "If there is a foul on a player which starts outside the penalty area and continues inside then a penalty should be awarded." Ref gave a foul that continued inside. End of. I thought it had gone to VAR to determine if a foul or just a swallow dive from KWP.

COVID - Returning to St Mary's
the saint in winchester replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
If Arsenal's decent performance midweek is attributed to fan in the stadium support, then the effect looks to be significant. Of course, Arsenal also had a 'clear the air' and that may have been the reason behind their improved performance. But I think the home teams may be getting better results. Someone will track the correlation, I'm sure. -
Oh I thought it was a reasonable comment to "we all die, we have no say in when it will be". We do have a measure of control and a responsibility to live as long and safely as we can.

With the (proven) link between heading the ball, concussion and dementia, is it time for heading the ball to be outlawed? Add in the sickening fracture for Jimenez yesterday. Al Shearer getting irate that football hasn't put in place protocols for head injuries. I, for one, would ban heading. It's called FOOTball. I would like allow the ball to travel over head height, but not allow heading from now on, on health and safety grounds. This post is not related to Cavani scoring two with his head yesterday. If you're going to disagree with me, you have to explain what safety protocols you will put in place.

Offering Long a new 2 year contract - Mistake?
the saint in winchester replied to stevy777_x's topic in The Saints
Hmm, I think you all might want to read and consider this article: https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1240911/Southampton-news-Danny-Ings-Shane-Long-new-contract-Premier-League Danny Ings stated he liked to have Shane partner him as he created the space for Danny. And at a time when we are looking for Danny to extend his contract, then his words went a long way. Yes, as it has turned out, Che has come good, become the regular choice and Long has only been required to give us 10 minutes from the bench. And our style has changed. We are now more possession based with Danny and Che coming back to midfield to keep possession, whereas the way to use Long is ball over the top for him to run on to. We just don't do that recently. There's no 'outball' football. We caress it 10 yards top trying to move up the pitch while retaining possession. Was it a mistake to extend Shane's contract? In hindsight, yes. But only in hindsight. He is the modern day Brett Ormerod to James Beattie. Time will tell whether Shane looks to move down to Championship to become a regular first teamer, or accepts the fact he is no longer first choice and happiness off the pitch means he accepts the situation. -
he does, yeah. I thought he had come dressed for baseball. If he had brought a bat out of his tights, that would have confirmed it. Mid term appraisal - strengths : speed running, passing, enthusiasm, interview techniques; weaknesses - finishing, dress sense, the man bun

Agree with all/most of your comments. It seemed to have a planned defensive performance. Djenepo and Bertie doing a defensive job on Traore. Came for a point. Used game management to stifle and contain Wolves. A pleasant surprise to go a goal up, but that was a red rag to a bull and Wolves stepped it up. Yeah, would have been nice to see Theo take that second chance; believe Ings or Adams would have scored. But I'm very pro-Theo so can't grumble too long. Was surprised to hear the commentator refer to Ralph giving the players 4 days off. Nice for them, but would account for tired legs. Looking ahead to Man Utd, they are starting to click but can be beaten if we set the tone. We need to be on the front foot, which we weren't last night.

13 for me too. But the ones I was out on was ages, and I was only one year out. FFS, only their mothers would know that. And I am surprised Romeu not had a Spain cap.

Angus Gunn - Official: Signs for Norwich

I know. The comment was tongue-in-cheek, knowing it couldn't happen. They will need to look for a free agent. Tommy Forecast? -

We could loan them Fraser Forster, as long as they pay his wages in full. -
Now that's an expression my Cheshire family use too. To be fair to Traore, his contract runs until 2022 but Wolves are pressing him to extend already. Think he is hoping the big 2 in Spain offer him something. Yeah, their players have exerted themselves and may be tired, but equally they may be warmed up and our boys a bit match unfit.
-
Why would he start? Adams and Walcott up front again. Armstrong and Djenepo/Redders on the wings.

Can't imagine WST were looking for £200M. A tenner to buy with the £2M they have committed to spend on players.
-
They did …. but according to BBC Gossip page, they're hoping to bring in Dean Henderson on loan in January. So they obviously don't rate the new boy that highly.

Saints “linked” with Adnan Januzaj
the saint in winchester replied to The Kraken's topic in The Saints
He's only 25 now? So he was 15 at Man Utd? We're well stocked for wingers. Can't see this one having legs. -
I presume the interview was originally in German, and TheCat via DeepL translated to English. Was left wondering what German word was used and why it wasn't translated simply as 'independently'. However, I do like the sound of acyclically.

This is a marriage made in heaven, and this marriage is going to last. I was in favour of him returning, I even proposed it (somewhere in the 85 pages of Transfer Window Summer 20, it'll be there) but even I was unsure whether he had it in his legs to make a contribution. He is exceeding expectations already. The training will make him fitter still, and he'll be knocking out the full 90 minutes regularly. The finishing will come, especially if Danny and Che can coach him back to that level. He's had 15 years of playing as a winger, give him some time. His enthusiasm for being back here is infectious. He wants this! He's ours for keeps. Play as long as he can, then give him a player-coach role. I'll stick my neck out and predict, come next May, he will be our Player of the Season.
-
Yeah, that's his build, and I'm not sure we can do much about it. Contrast him with Obafemi, for example. Watching Djenepo is like watching Bambi on ice. He has little solid about him. It makes him flexible but susceptible to cracking and breaking. He definitely has something to offer. That sharp backheel to put Walcott in was one of the best things I've seen this season.

Have you got a link to that article? I'd be interested in reading it.

200m in 2.75 seconds? LOL! Can see him sprinting out of defence and crossing with no-one on the end of it.
