  1. I'd take this one over the summer we were in administration. Markus Liebherr made that a great summer in the end, but from the moment we were put into administration until the start of July when he bought us, we faced a horrible uncertain future, and even then we had to start on -10 points in League One. At least we'll start next season on a level playing field, will still have a good set of players, and will hopefully have even strengthened sufficiently in time for the new season. (Or preferrably in time for pre-season training, although we all know we don't rush summer transfers!) I agree though that this summer will probably push that a close second. The other summer I remember is the one McMenemy and Souness walked out, although if memory serves we signed Kevin Davies quite early on that summer and the Dave Jones appointment didn't take long.
  2. Replaced? No-one has been sold yet, although Balague is usually clued up on matters. I firmly believe if Pochettino stays, it'll be because he's promised money to spend, and will be our best chance of keeping the existing playing personnel. Still, might be a moot point soon. Come on Katherina, show us what your balls are made of! (...or whatever the female equivalent of that expression is...)
  3. Well you've a 50 % chance of being right.
  4. So if we play down his talents and say he's actually crap, maybe Liverpool won't want him! :-) Seriously of the three Englanders going to the WC, it's Adam's value that will rise during the tournament. Selling him before hand would be nuts, I can see why Liverpool are desperate to conclude the transfer ASAP. If we have to sell him, the fair enough, but I hope our club's powers that be can hold off until at least England are knocked out.
  5. I personally think Spurs will go for De Boer, and if this is the case, I think Pochettino will sign a new contract. Spurs are the step up, and I'm not sure bigger clubs than them would risk appointing a manager with no real success in terms of trophies and titles, in spite of the fact Pochettino plays beautiful football and has a nous for bringing through young players. I may be wrong, but whatever happens I'd love this managerial situation to be concluded by next week, one way or the other. The sooner we get it sorted, the sooner the players can decide how stable the club is and whether we hold aspirations of doing better in the league. If we have to appoint a new boss, whoever it is, and we get the decision right, it may very well be the key to keeping the jewels. Of course Pochettino staying, and signing a new contract, is the best chance we have of showing the "want away" players of our ambitions. Fingers crossed.
  6. I said this on a thread as a joke a while ago but he does have a Champions League on his CV! May have contacts too for transfers, so not a silly choice. Magath did a good job at Fulham too in the short time he was there, and trusted his younger players too. Also has a decent CV. Moyes? Well he'll sure have a point to prove, and will keep us in the media spotlight for some time. in short, I haven't got a clue who I want, but I'd support whoever it is. Although of course I hope it's Pochettino.
  7. We all hope Morgan is as loyal as I. He could become our longest serving player soon...
  8. I just received an offer from Arsenal for £22 million to become a fan at the Emirates. I turned it down, I remain loyal to my beloved Saints.

    Captain

Davis gets the vote for me.
  10. Bet Caulker is gutted, he was in the last squad but Hodgson has gone for Stones instead on the back up list...
  11. One link I've read this morning claims Flannigan is on the back up list....
  12. I knew this was going to be a long, hard summer for Saints fans but I wasn't expecting a bid for one of our players on the day the season finished. I don't buy newspapers but most of the media guff is online anyway. Tricky to avoid. As for Shaw, Lallana et al, the club should reject everything until after the WC, especially as Pochettino's future is still uncertain...
  13. I meant to quote this in the post before. This us pretty much my mindset too, we may have to get used to lowering our expectations when transfers are concerned. I wonder if we'll utilise the Bosmans or even the loan window next season...
  14. Harry Maguire or Dan Burn would be good young CB acquisitions. There's a lot of young talent in the lower leagues as Hughes showed tonight. If we can't achieve big signings this summer for whatever reason, I'd like to see us invest in the future, even if the future hasnt come entirely from our academy.
  15. I hope the club resist it first and foremost. No outgoing transfers until after the WC should be what we look to achieve, although the big teams will wish differently.
  16. Still injured I guess. Shame Clyne has had to fight for his RB slot with Chambers this year. Good for Saints, bad for England.
  17. :-) Makes you wonder where Walcott, Townsend, Walker and JRod would've fit in had they not been injured. I'm not sure JRod would've made it, but would've been in the back up 7. Walcott for Lambert, Walker for Lampard?
  18. A huge help in getting to the Premier League. A squad player that will be missed. Good luck in your future career Guly.
  19. Does this mean Carrick will retire too? Congratulations to Luke Shaw!
  20. Sturridge, Rooney, Welbeck and Lambert will be the 4. Defoe burned his bridges when he went to Canada IMO. If Hodgson takes 5 strikers then perhaps Carroll may get in but with Sterling, Lallana and Barkley behind the strikers I think it's unlikely he'll take 5. I think Lambert has done enough. Defence is where England will suffer this year. Especially at centre back. I'd almost rather Clyne and Shaw didn't become the fall guys for a shoddy defensive performance, if that's indeed what happens. Nonetheless I'll be proud of any Saint that makes it to the World Cup. Which is why I'd rather we hang on to Lallana and Shaw until at least the conclusion of the tournament.
  21. Great season with the only negatives being Osvaldo being a plonker, the FA Cup defeat and the various injuries. Take the positives and lock them away in your memories. Don't tarnish them with what happens in the summer. We're all going to be exhausted by the end of the summer transfer window, whatever happens.
  22. Disagree OP. Lallana is our most skilful, talented, goal scoring midfielder. Those aren't easy to find. Shaw is replaceable, not like for like but with someone good enough.
  23. Norwich down. Very little coverage of this today, my missus gutted.
  24. Cheers but am on my ipad. It's ok, least we have nothing to play for!
  25. Agree. We're 3/4 players short of pushing on next year. Double that and more if we get picked apart, and while we'll have the money, replacements won't be as good and as we know, it's tricky to get many new signings to gel quickly. Look at Sunderland. Enjoy this game while it lasts...
