  1. Form is temporary, class is permanent. It's a shame we never saw the best of Phillips. At the time, with an FA Cup final appearance under our belts, and with a spot in the UEFA cup to boot, I thought we were ready to push on, and Phillips's signing would have been a sign of that push. Sadly one thing led to another, and the FA Cup, and the signing of Phillips, proved to be a false dawn. As for the Connolly/Phillips debate, I have to say I never expected to see Connolly playing regular football again, but wow if he hasn't seemingly put his injury troubles behind him. As an all rounder, Connolly is the better player, but Phillips is a goal scoring machine. As an aside, I'm playing CM2003 atm, and Connolly (then at West Ham) is miles better than Phillips (who was with Saints). I sell Phillips as soon as I can (and Delgado and McCann, and I do my utmost to sign Connolly! (nigh on impossible)
  2. If we get back to the Premiership this season or next, I don't envisage a reason why Lallana would ever leave the club. His loyalty and talent could see us utter his name in the same breath as Le God. Still the future is unwritten, and with so much money in the game, it's very hard to keep someone if your club isn't successful. Let's just hope the good times for us just keep on coming. As for the forum banner, yes please.
  3. I would personally welcome Rupert Lowe back with open arms. Then kick him in the nuts while he's off guard. Cortese may have faults, but everything he's done for the club has been right for us. The feel-good factor, the personnel, and the table speak for itself.
  4. A massive w00t of the very highest order - a fantastic win. I may have no points on the prediction league but I couldn't care less. Great win against a very fancied Birmingham. I just can't see this good feeling subsiding. Yes, we'll have a bad spell or two, but we're really setting ourselves up well for the rest of the season. Only 3 shots on target too according to the Beebs stats, and we go and score 4 goals. That shows the clinical finishing nature of the team at the moment. Nigel Adkins is a genius. Thank you Mr Liebherr for making us all feel happy again.
  5. My personal 2011 has been shyte, frankly. Saints are making it more than bearable.
  6. I have an email account of about 7 years standing with Yahoo, which I've just found out has been hacked, as the few contacts I had in my address book have been getting emails from "me" with links to, I assume, dodgy websites. Where do I go from here? Do I abandon the account, or simply change my password?
  7. 24th at the mo. I thought I'd be higher, with my front two of Rooney and Aguero banging in hattricks, but apparently the rest of my team is arse. How're you doing?
  8. Except all the kings horses and all the kings men probably wouldn't try putting him together again.Getting a million quid for him, considering the money troubles we had back then, must be considered one of the best bits of business we've ever done.
  9. Had it been on at 5:20 on Saturday, it would've been the first game this season I could've attended. I will now be working all through the game. Bumders. I've got withdrawal symptoms. Roll on November.
  10. Tough game this... for Brum. We'll be fresh as daisies. 3-1, our favourite scoreline.
  11. The squad is great, real strength in depth and there's also versatility. Dickson and Fox can play left wing, Cork can probably play anywhere in the back 8 bar goalkeeper (and I wouldn't put that past him), Adam can play anywhere in the front six, and nobody really knows Guly's best position because he's been tried, and been a success, everywhere. Forte, too, is a useful attacking option to have. The only position that concerns me is up top. Connolly would be some kind of Superman to last every game, and while Barnard will be back and imo will do well, his future is still uncertain. A loan striker, an out and out goal getter, would help our squad, but what we have can cope for now.Seaborne's loss is saddening. Not knowing how long he'll be out, we rely on Jos, Radhi and Martin to cover. With Cork able to fill in, I still think we're ok in this position.
  12. My West Ham supporting colleague regularly brings up Ali Dia. I respond with a cheap Marco Boogers shot. Hilarious transfers for the neutrals.
  13. League One, first season - "As much as you ridicule him, I reckon Pulis will play at least 20 games this season. " I'm not going through my post history but it's in there. Think I said it just before the takeover.
  14. I think somebody tweeted on deadline day that Majewski was due to sign for us, just a rumour I suspect, but I had a feeling he'd score yesterday. Good win, even if it was a bit end to end. I'd take 40 3-2 wins to us over the course of the season. Oh, I glanced through the Forest vs Saints fred on their forum. Some funny stuff in there.

    One Chance....

Of the two, it has to be Lambert, although if anyone in the team could have the chance, I'd have to say Lallana.
  16. If anyone should be laughed at, it's the teams that didn't take a punt on Rickie two years ago because he was 27, and his re-sale value would be non-existant. It's not always about business decisions, Rickie came in, did a job from day 1, and is still doing it. Sod re-sale value, even if we do go up, I think he's good enough to do a job up there. Yes, he doesn't have the pace, but he has the brain to do well in the top flight, even if he has to do a Mark Hughes-type job a bit deeper on the pitch. He'll easily get 20 goals this season if he stays clear of injury (which he should do - he's a machine!), maybe even get close to 30. I think it speaks volumes though that he plays well, and has said he enjoys playing, with Connolly rather than Barnard. They're both class, and they're both on the same wavelength. It'll take a monumental effort for Lee to get back into the first team when he's fit.
  17. "Get yer boots on Deano, it may've been 15 years since you last played, but I reckon you'll have more chance of scoring than Morgan..."
  18. At work and using Twitter updates between customers. Come on Saints!
  19. "Nigel Adkins will make a £4million bid for Watford wonderkid Marvin Sordell in January. Southampton boss Adkins is ready to table an improved offer for the England under-21 international when the transfer window re-opens. Watford rejected a £3m bid from the Saints on deadline day and are determined to keep the 20-year-old striker at Vicarage Road. But Adkins is set to make a renewed attempt to land the highly-rated Hornet in the New Year to boost Saints’s promotion challenge." I like the last bit...
  20. Morgan for centre back. Well, he never bloody scores further up the field...
  21. Is the question - What are Arsenal's scorelines since the Premier League was formed?

    We're back

Change freaks me out. :-) Nah, it's ok really. Looks smart. No to signatures too, I went on another team's forum recently, I forget which, and following the conversation was nigh on impossible because of all the signature pictures. It's not needed - like mySpace, it's just vanity.
  23. On the times I saw him play last season, I thought he was very poor. I know he was injured for ages when he arrived, but for me, Butterfield was the best option. This season I haven't seen him play, but judging from the reports he's been a lot better. I was excited when we were linked with Clyne though, as I feel right back is one of the positions we'll need to strengthen if we want to progress. That said, he's still a good age, and can only get better.
  24. Yes. Modern football is a squad game, and if you look at the league cup tie against Swindon, despite the two make shifts scoring, we do need an out and out striker. Lambert and Connolly are doing a great job, Connolly continues top surprise me, but I'll eat my bum if he can last 50+ games this season. Barnard is yet to play of course, but it's his current absence through injury that highlights our need for another striker. I believe when he comes back that he'll do a very good job for us, but with his court case to come his future is still uncertain. Some people may think not, after all, we can change the formation and play a 4-4-1-1 or a 4-5-1 to accommodate a lone striker, but I think a loan striker would boost our options within the squad, and I suspect it's something Adkins has already thought about. It depends who we can get too, I expect there are some great loan strikers to be had now that the Premier League teams have picked their 25 man squads - and even if we didn't need another striker, us bringing one in on loan would stop other nPC teams bringing that player in on loan. I still think our striking department lacks any young talent. Our youngest first team striker is Barnard, at 27 he's at his peak. Unless we have a great striker waiting in the youth team, I feel investment in this department will need to be made next year, especially if we're building a team for the future. We can get by with what we have, for sure we have enough quality with what we have to ride the season out, but anything remotely like an injury crisis up top, and we could rue not having a back up striker. Just my opinion though, I'd like to see a new striker brought in on loan.
  25. Dan Seaborne WILL be a loss, I hope our new loanee can settle straight into his position until January when we can reassess our position and squad. We have the quality, we have the team spirit, steer clear of injurys and we can be flying by Christmas.
