I'm not sure it's quite the question of who you rate and who you don't, but what chance they are given. British kids aren't any less able than those abroad, yet the PL seem not to give them the chance that they need to get to the top. Look at Eden Hazard - he left his Belgian club when he was 14 to go to Lille Youth. When he was 16 he moved in the Lille U19 and a year later, he moved into the Lille main side where he played for 4 years, before signing for Chelsea. The academy that came up to the PL flourished because it could afford to blood the players in as we progressed through the leagues. So when we got to the PL, they weren't raw and inexperienced, they hit the floor running and were picked up by bigger teams. So the real question is, how can we get that experience for academy players? U23 isn't the same think. The Checkatrade Trophy is not great. Loans? Maybe. A tie up with another team in another league would make sense, although not sure if this generation would be happy living abroad. It is interesting to see that there seems to be a trickle of players going to the Bundesliga, which is hardly an uncompetitive league.

I'm actually in 2 minds. Of course it would be great to improve the team by buying in players, but..... It really struck me last season more than any other, when Man City came to SMS. I looked at them, with maybe only Sterling coming on late on, as the sole English player they had. Now that's nothing new, Arsenal and Chelsea have had non-English teams before, but I got thinking, what actually are their supporters supporting? A group of players that have no connection to the club other than picking up their pay, and who would be happy enough to go elsewhere if the pay was better. While Saints will likely never reach that stage, is that really what people want? A team that has no connection to the club/city beyond money? There is of course a balance to be had. Poch had it right. Bring through the players from the academy. It worked well. Not all the time, but enough. Ralph seems to be doing the same, although I think Poch's academy was probably better. We may not win every game - we're never going to anyway. But for me, I find it more fulfilling to watch players we have brought through. What did ML want - 75% was it? That's possibly too many. But say 4 out of 11 is really nice to watch.

There seem to be a lot of people quick to cast out yet another of our players. He's a Saints player, and until he goes, the OTT assassination of him is a little misplaced. He may well not fit RH's way of playing, but he is still a Saints player.

Trust the manager and Club. I think that they are well aware of what the situation is, and how it would change with injuries.
