Absolutely. But I am still hankering after the Koeman team where we hit all teams, big or small. Chelsea 1-3 Saints. #livinginthepast

The one negative I would take, and obviously understandable why, is that we were somewhat toothless in attack.

Is it time to give Angus Gunn a run in the PL
angelman replied to The Fat Controller's topic in The Saints
Absolutely. What happens now?? It might come down to the manager saying "listen guys - you're both great, so I am going to be a bit different from the norm and rotate you." But...that's a bit naive as goalies just don't get rotated. If Macca was replaced for this, then I can't see why you would get him back in seeing as Gunn kept a clean sheet. -
Compared to the 3-0 home game, chalk and cheese. Yoshi was fantastic.

Thought Ramsay offered more than Valery

Is he still ill/carrying an injury, as presume he will be the natural partner with Rom for this evening?
-
Boufal offered the only glimmer of excitement last season. I liked him and I would like to see him back, so long as he doesn't show petulance to the manager (and supposed out right dissent). I suspect he is on a season long loan - looking at his stats, I'm not sure its working out brilliantly for him at Celta Vigo. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sofiane-boufal/leistungsdaten/spieler/232271

Do you post ballocks the whole time?

I think you misunderstand. It is the seemingly lackadaisical approach that is the problem. I put seemingly in bold as am prepared to eat humble pie if there is an injury instead of it being lackadaisical. But my mind also goes back to games such as vs Chelsea at Wembley when there was no injury.

Is it? Chelsea want to get in there before others, so might be prepared to take those terms. Selling club doesn't want to lose a player mid season.
-
Its a pretty sad state of affairs where we are wishing the bottom few clubs to lose.

They warned people over the tannoy the first time. Seemed not to be anything the second time. And this third time, there was a warning on the display.

He's no Tadic. As for Benji's playmaker bit, Armstrong is better.

Pay offs is a tricky one as no one knows the severance package. Puel likely is not being paid as he is working in PL. Pellegrino might or might not - no idea how these things work. Maybe we top up his Leganes wage. Hughes might be expensive, but then again, who knows whether there was a performance clause in there that mitigates the expense. Its not like PL clubs keep their managers until the end of their contracts, so I'm sure there will be all sorts of clauses.
-
Ta. Might explain a sub-par performance, that I seemingly have misinterpreted as being overly lackadaisical. Which I guess leads to the question of why start him in the first place? Armstrong might have fitted in somewhere, or Steven Davis if a more defensive midfielder was needed.

Is his confidence shot, or can't he really be bothered to apply himself? I really hope that it is the former, as that can be worked on. He has great ability in himself. There are flashes of greatness, where he is the boss. But they are all too fleeting.

After (especially) today and WHU games, I am very disillusioned with the player. Not that he has been great at other times. Players who think that they are better than they actually are, usually step up to the plate when the big teams role into town. But today, he was utter garbage and looked as if he couldn't be arsed. We've had plenty of players over the past who have tried and still been average, but a player who undoubtedly has the ability but can't be bothered is the worst kind to have. Maybe I'm being harsh, maybe not, but that is how I see him. Frankly on today's (lack of) effort, I would be happy to sell him on and never see him in a Saints shirt again, rather an academy player who actually wants it to take his place. I so badly want to see players like him (and Boufal) to step up and show us what they are made of. I am a bit divided now. Wanting to get shot of him but realising we need him with Hoj out for a while. If only he applied himself and made as much impact as Hoj, then the two of them together would be a really strong partnership.

Lemina. **** attitude. Maybe he wants off to PSG. If any truth I'd let him go quick smart. Disgraceful half arsed performance.

I didn't respond to your post at half time last night. The network dropped out. I thought first half, that there was a fair bit of unfair criticism of the team. However, that seemed to even itself out in the 2nd half, especially after their first goal, so our differing opinions is a moot point really. They had a plan and it worked. They targeted Ings, kicked him about a bit. Their defenders are big solid lumps who are quick on their feet. Diop and Antonio in particular. I though Antonio probably, along with Anderson, to be their best 2 players. Valery seemed out of his depth with this one against Anderson. We lacked pace which they had, and to let a goal in from a corner that you have taken is always pretty poor. Lemina has some, but not sure what his problem was last night. Maybe the PSG links are playing on his mind. Long has some, but can't control it.

Think I might be watching a different game to you lot, or maybe it's different for you on Tv

Was something to aspire to under Hughes.....!

Reports that Balbuena and Hernandez both out injured.

Can't get it to play videos in full screen, but what else is the problem? Always seemed to be a diabolically poor www.

Is it a kick in the teeth, or is is sacrificing one of the sub spots to give match day involvement to a youngster? He had Stephens on the bench and I guess the back 3 + 2 wing backs could if need be have reverted to a back 4. How best does the club run? From the top down, or the bottom up? Or a both, giving the whole squad of players a belief that they can play a part, even if it is as a replacement for injuries. Poch dd it. Koeman didn't. Can't remember too much from Puel's time - apart from Sims playing more. Pellegrino didn't. Hughes only used Obafemi because the rest were so dire under him. So for RH to come in, and within a week or two to shake things up, is both pretty ballsy and refreshing to see. I hope that he is doing it for the right reason and that they are ready if need be, not just because its the "Southampton Way".

Excitement, love and passion for football rekindled
angelman replied to Bad Wolf's topic in The Saints
The problem with Poch, or rather the difference, was that he replaced a very popular manager who few thought should be sacked. Also his record was somewhat uninspiring. Similarity is that they both took over after a 2-2 against a Big 6.
