That's a good question. Immigration was consistently high before 2004 but could it be that there was a large amount or work available in Britain that was low paid and there were no Brits prepared to do it? Suddenly there was an availability of a large pool of labour willing to work for low pay doing jobs in the service industry. Whether this has been good for Britain is a different argument.

We might have faced a similar situation a few seasons ago when we and Coventry had identical records near the end of the season. Thankfully it never came to this.

Like everybody else I have at times been caught in the crush at the bridge but there is no room for a station north of the bridge, and that would still be the other side of the bottleneck. There could be a platform squeezed in behind the bike sheds but that would require trains to drive up the spur and then reverse back onto the main lines and then possibly change direction again, none of it ideal. I am aware that trains regularly use the docks spur for car freight and that they often stack up there for the cleaning sheds.
