  1. It was just a kick-around in the heat in a warm-up friendly. Nothing to get excited about.
  2. Do you think so? What would you consider to be a reasonable return on investment for a shareholder in today's financial environment?
  3. Great film, very moving.
  4. Would playing in the CL cup tie him for the EL?
  5. I'm moaning that there isn't such a thread. As for the OP, I shall reserve my judgment until the season starts but I shall be somewhat disappointed if there are no further additions to the squad.
  6. We nearly ran into the Tour earlier today in Argentan. We were driving back from Spain towards Ouistreham with the caravan in tow and all the roads were blocked off so we ended up against some barriers in some backstreet car park in the middle of the city just before they all came through. We had to get the boat at 16:30 or else we would have hung around for twenty minutes but ended up backtracking some ten miles south so as to get the motorway back north again. We could see all the safety cars going overhead on the D2. We were due to come back on the 13th and I had checked the route before we left so I wasn't expecting any problems. The trouble is that with a 190km blockage transecting your intended route there are not many places in north France where there are over- or under-passes. There was quite a big party atmosphere in the centre of Argentan and it was a pity to miss it but we had a boat to catch
  7. Unfortunately the money can only go round so far before it's reduced to bugger all.
  8. You see Einstein, I see a white-haired grandfather. For the record, I don't agree with all these messy tax credits, just set the tax rates at the right levels and the economy will sort itself out.
  9. Then stop the subsidy, remove the benefits. The state is not giving money direct to the companies.
  10. Er, no. Higher wage bill => less profits => fewer jobs Unless all the extra disposable income is spent at that same employer, which isn't going to happen.
  11. You're right about Tapatalk. It has its limitations and I'm still persevering with the old HD version because I'm sick of the adverts.
  12. No profits = no company = no jobs
  13. The taxman won't allow a trip for business if any part of it is for pleasure or a holiday. I had a very big argument with them, which I lost, of course.
  14. You might be confused. Are you asking on the right forum?
  15. How can you benefit if you're dead?
  16. ... is the correct answer!
  17. Highly recommended. We went there a few years ago for our 40th anniversary but had to leave early to avoid a hurricane. We'll be back, we have unfinished business there. Lovely place, lovely people, only 6 hours away. Edit: bloody auto-correct
  18. Don't get your worried, you've made good choice. My wife always says that she felt like crying when we got there (it was all a bit too much) but she could have cried even more when we left. As an aside, we flew there from Auckland. There were a country or of New Zealand girls on the flight and one of them was celebrating her birthday in the departure lounge, champagne and all the trimmings. We flew over the Date Line and landed in Honolulu the day before so she then had a whole 24 hours of further celebrations to look forward to. Apparently they did this every year.
  19. Did they say which Sunday?
  20. Clue: count the capitals in the links.
  21. Did you click on the links? You were supposed to read them
  22. Back cover? What 'back cover' (not on my browser, anyway). I never judge a book by its cover, what does this edition have to say on the subject of capitalisation? http://www.plainenglish.co.uk http://www.english.ox.ac.uk
  23. That's a title, and it's the 2004 edition. Come on, keep up.
  24. I am not in reach of my copy of Fowler's 'Modern English Usage' (1967 edition) at the moment. Much of the discussion on various forms of writing style predate the Internet so finding a link is not as easy as some youngsters might think.
  25. Unless we're talking about Liverpool's impending decline, with or without a 'clyne'.
