  1. It's a lot further than you think. We once had a spare ten days in San Francisco and drove over 1800 miles around that part of California. Yosemite is a must. Giant sequoias at Mariposa grove and the other one. Muir woods north of the Golden Gate for the giant redwoods. Wine valleys at Healdsburg, Napa & Sonoma valley. Gold mine history at Columbia, up near Reno Silver City & Virginia City are interesting. On the coast Carmel is beautiful, Pebble Beach & 17 mile drive are glorious. San Francisco to LA is about 440 miles, I think, so be warned! (edit: 347.16 miles apparently but that's by crow) You should be able to find a motel without any trouble. If you're worried, look up some names online and ring ahead in the morning, worked well for us in New England. Have fun I'm jealous!
  2. I've had trouble in France. By the I've I'd run round the car to chuck the money in and then got back in my seat the barrier had come down again.
  3. The same goes for the management.
  4. Free kick looked soft to me. Slow to move his feet and flapped at the ball. There are others who would have saved it.
  5. We've been saying that since last season.
  6. Exactly. My only crumb of consolation was that our defensive weaknesses might be sorted by a few summer signings. There were obvious problems for the last couple of months of last season.
  7. Just not good enough.
  8. Out-of-contract? (I'm getting desperate now).
  9. England call-up innit.
  10. We've had worse days. It's going to be a long season and my concern is that it's going to take a few games for the new players to settle in. Nothing there today that many of us didn't expect and predict.
  11. I'm quite certain that I remember a statement at the time it was approved that there would be no tolls once the bridge was paid for. This may, of course, have been inaccurate.
  12. Yes, that was ages ago. You didn't believe them, did you?
  13. Thanks for your efforts. Some of us appreciated the reasons behind the format.
  14. I think it's because the asterisk is shown (on my IPad) as almost a superscript. This is the problem with mathematical notation and a limited character set. My BODMAS is more than twenty years older than yours and at that time nobody mentioned indices, or maybe they just hadn't reached eastern Essex at that time.
  15. I read the asterisk as an index. That's what computer programming does for you.
  16. The cherry picker was there on Tuesday when I picked up my Sheffield Wednesday ticket. I assumed it was giving the old girl a hose down.
  17. For £50 one of you is going to go hungry.
  18. I see it as a positive move. Large aviation projects are beyond the scope of most individual nations. The devil will be in the detail. How much will remain British?
  19. Amen to that.
  20. I remember that now. This really will be a product killer. All those car kits and docks represent a hefty investment. If you're forced to change them you might as well change manufacturer at the same time.
  21. Why, thank you sir. 42 not out. Do you think my shiny IPhone 4 will be replaced by a new model as a present? Nah, you're right, no chance. Where are all the usual shots of people queuing round the block and sleeping under newspapers?
  22. At the Millennium the pints were lined up ready. Grab the money and hand 'em over. Couldn't be simpler.
  23. You're in a queue. The people in front stop moving. Do you stop and wait patiently, or do you push and shove to try to get things moving? This was the fundamental question.
  24. Quite true, but every one is a personal tragedy.
  25. Wrong lubricant?
