  1. Indeed. But just imagine the reaction from the large majority of people who will qualify for this... "The government are giving me a free laptop and internet connection. Wow, I'll be able to keep track of little Johnny's education!" Or perhaps... "The government are giving me a free laptop and internet connection. Wow, I'll be able to watch porn, play online poker, and spend hours on facebook while I'm not at work!" Which do you think is more likely?
  2. You have to take into account that this is the Brown government we are dealing with here, So I'm assuming that only £100m at most of that will be to cover the purchase price of the laptops, and the rest will be swallowed up in administration, delivery costs, tech support etc...
  3. Totally agree Hatch. Not a chance. If low income families want state-provided free internet so they can check up on their children's education, can't they just visit a library like anyone else?
  4. Yeah but what you have to appreciate is that this forum is run by a ltd company now, and if any posts appear which could be deemed libellous then the company could find themselves with a lawsuit on their hands for allowing such content to be posted. As with any internet forum, it is down to the administrators' discretion as to what posts they allow and what posts they delete. There's nothing wrong with the fans speculating about transfers etc..., but if that talk could then become potentially damaging to the club, and land the owners of the site in a lot of hot water, then I believe they are perfectly correct to delete/censor whatever they wish.
  5. Perhaps they could have been deemed potentially libellous?
  6. Isn't this a non-story? As far as I was aware it got cancelled about a week ago. Not that the frothing-at-the-mouth masses even bothered to check this before joining all the pointless, dribbling outrage groups on facebook about it.
  7. I have to disagree about all of Meadows' films being superb. I find him to be hit and miss. For example, I wasn't too keen on This is England despite what other people said about it. He tries to make films that appear very real, but there were a lot of aspects about that film that just weren't realistic at all I found. However, I cannot deny that Dead Man's Shoes is a truly excellent film, and by far Meadows' best work. Paddy Consadine is absolutely brilliant in the lead role - faultless in fact - and Tony Kebbells's portrayal of his mentally diabled brother is unnervingly realistic. A very dark film with some pretty gruesome images, but I just loved the scene where Richard spikes the gang with what I can only assume is LSD to make them trip out in that way. Anybody who hasn't seen this film - go and buy it... now. Possibly the best british film of the last decade.
  8. After the big disappointment of the Antonio announcement, it's probably to let us know that the contract for the catering company at SMS has been renewed or something like that.
  9. That's possibly one of the ugliest dogs I have ever seen.
  10. Lastnight my girlfriend and me shut ourselves away from the cold outside and watched Werner Herzog's antarctic documentary Encounters At The End Of The World The film is centred around the close knit community of scientists, engineers, technicians and service personnel that inhabit McMurdo; an american-lead research station on the southern tip of Ross Island. It is essentially just a series of interviews with the various people who have gathered in this remote and desolate place to carry out research into all areas such as marine biology, volcanicity and climate related science; all narrated by the unique voice of Herr Herzog himself. I found it utterly absorbing. Some of the camera work is stunning, reminiscent of some of the cinematography featured in Planet Earth. It is presented in such a way as to be almost poetic, contrasting the industrial nature of the McMurdo settlement with the stark beauty of the frozen wastes of the antarctic ice. Fascinating, educational and beautiful to watch. Highly recommended 8/10
  11. Actually St George, it's only the oceans that need to be warm in order for the cooling effect on the UK that TLS is talking about to happen. I have tried to find evidence all over the internet that this isn't the case, but I can't find any. It seems pretty unanimous that the oceans are heating up. So while the UK and other places might be suffering a cold snap right now, the oceans temperatures are continuing to rise, thus causing the arctic ice-melt and consequently disrupting the gulfstream. I'm not going to bother posting any links, because there are far too many which confirm this. You only have to do a simple google search for yourself.
  12. Spot on. This is the point that I and one or two others have been trying to get St G and Dune to realise for some time now, but they seem far too blinded by their anti-left agenda to appreciate it.
  13. Yeah OK, but anybody who claims that a professional lawyer 'won't be making pr talk and lies' deserves every bit of ridicule coming his/her way IMO.
  14. Do you?
  15. I want some of what this guy is on!
  16. Or not, seeing as this 'announcement' was supposed to take place on monday afternoon.
  17. Well, you see here's the thing, and some might say this is the reason why it was so much better than the other two... TESB was the only one of the original three that wasn't directed by George Lucas.
  18. But his point being that The Empire Strikes Back was in virtually an identical situation as The Two Towers. It was the middle film of a trilogy, with no discernible beginning or end, yet it was by far the best film of the original three.
  19. Well if you count up all of them going back to when the Paul Allen rumour was first posted, I would guess we got close to a thousand pages in total.
  20. Yeah that would appear to be the case. There was an interview with Storrie-teller in the Independent this morning, and he says that he no longer has any involvement in the clubs finances, and that he is no longer actively seeking new investment either, leaving it all up to the arabs. His only responsibility now is the day-to-day running of the club.
  21. Or even wait until the players have served their 14-day termination notice after not being paid, and get him on a free.

    Mush

So is there any truth to the story I heard a few years back that 'mush' was derived from 'monsieur' by the Southampton dockers in their interactions with the large number of french sailors passing through the docks?
  23. http://http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/115874/Portsmouth-squad-up-for-sale/ Now I don't want anybody getting the impression that I regularly trawl The Star's website - a mate of mine posted the link on Facebook. If there is even the slightest degree of truth to this then it is very interesting reading.
  24. Yeah that's exactly one of the aspects I'm talking about. >> They leave you guessing as to what his exact relationship to Eli was. It isn't actually implied, but you guess that he, just like Oskar, is her lover who had fallen for her and had chosen to travel with her and protect her. She says that she is twelve, but has been twelve for a long time, and you see flashes of her showing her true age at various points of the film, so it fits that he has been with her since he was Oskar's age, and ultimately was willing to die for her. And also, when she tells Oskar that he should fight back as hard as he can against the bullies at school, it becomes obvious later that this was to manipulate him into toughening up, so that he would be able to protect her better it seems. I can't believe that there is a Hollywood remake on the cards. well, actually I can well believe it, which probably makes it even more depressing. Don't think I'll even bother to watch it when it gets released. Out of interest, and this is aimed at Redbul seeing as you have seemingly read it, was the book originally written in Swedish as well?
  25. Tell you what, why don't you email the organisers of the UAF and ask them why they haven't done anything? Like I said... I don't know, you don't know; none of us knows. Until any of us does know anything, is it fair for anybody to be criticising them based on pure speculation?
