  1. I think there's a lack of leadership on the pitch as well as on the touchline. MP often seems to be quiet on the sidelines when things aren't going our way. We have a youngish side, and perhaps need a bit of experience to add some mental toughness
  2. If we want to get to a level where we can challenge even for a top 6 spot, we'd need to get rid of the likes Guly, Jos, Yoshida, JWP, Gazza and bringing in real quality whilst upgrading on the likes of Lambert, Fonte and Boruc You're talking £50-£100 million of investment. Plus trying to hold on to the likes of Lallana and Shaw. Put it simply, we are a long, long way from getting to the 'next level'
  3. In all fairness, if all of our players are as good as many on here say, why aren't we higher in the league? Still don't get the hype around JWP, he's a Championship player at best. It's all well and good trying to play a team of young English players, but it's ridiculous to assume every young player we give a game too e.g. Chambers, Reed, JWP, Gallagher are going to be good enough for us in the future, as they're not
  4. Nor me. This is all getting a bit boring, too many people keep trying to pick holes and discover stats to tell us what a supposedly poor side we are. If we started winning against most of the top 10 sides we'd be challenging for the title, that's not going to happen is it.
  5. You have to admire the way he has performed since his England debut, which was disappointing even by his own admission. I still don't think he'll be on the plane but I can see him scoring another 4/5 goals this season. That would make him difficult for Roy to ignore
  6. The thing is we are where we are because we have about the 8th/9th best squad in the league. 'MoPo' is doing a decent enough job . Would another manager with our squad finish any higher than say, 8th? Unlikely I would think. The thing is, what are people's expectations? It seems like a lot of posters on here find it hard to understand that even with the side we have, we are going to lose a fair few games over a season. The problem is so many people expect too much, I'm realistic about what we can achieve. I'm ****ed off about what happened today, but it's not the end of the world, we're used to this sort of thing. A managerial change simply isn't necessary, nor is it likely to change our fortunes a lot
  7. Awful. We took Spurs too lightly after going 2-0 up. Draw a big blue line under that one and move on. Another forum meltdown to come so won't bother reading the rest of the thread.Nothing more to say
  8. Yeah they got to a cup final. No one will ever remember the season we finished 8th
  9. 8th is a bit boring, would much rather be in Sunderland's position in 18th.
  10. What about his poor win percentage? Surely not good enough for a top side?
  11. Being good at winning headers does not make a good footballer. Can't see what else he offers
  12. Was this ever worn for a game? I own this shirt, quite liked it actually
  13. To think people have been moaning about this season. Enjoy it, because if any of these rumours have any truth in them, then things are only going to get worse
  14. Yeah, can't see us having any chance with those 3 out. We won't be able to control midfield with the likes of Ward Prowse playing. Very disappointing news if true as I thought we had a good chance to win.
  15. Because he's the best left back in the country. By all accounts from round that area of the country as well. As much as we'd like him to stay, he isn't going to. I won't begrudge him a move either, he's good enough to play for a better team. We've got to be realistic, if he was playing for another team at our level you'd expect him to move on
  16. Well sadly with our very respectable league position and a number of outstanding performers this season, a lot of clubs will be sniffing around several of our players. It's going to be a long summer, instead of praying we sign someone, I'll be hoping the likes of Lallana and Schneiderlin stay put. Shaw leaving is inevitable, especially if he goes to the World Cup, but wherever he goes, it will be a decent transfer fee.
  17. Rodriguez won't make the 23 if Welbeck is fit. Don't rate him, but he looks a lot better for England than United. I'm not convinced J Rod can handle the pressure of a World Cup. Although if we're looking at form and goals you could argue he deserves a spot. I think Rickie is probably still ahead of Carroll in Roy's plans. Carroll is surely too much of a risk still and has still done **** all so far this season. Let's see how he gets on against United on Saturday
  18. Don't know if it's been mentioned.I noticed there's a sale on in the online store, half price on home and away shirts plus reductions on most of the training gear. Bit annoying for those who forked out £50 for a shirt. I doubt many on here buy club merchandise, but I'm interested as to whether this ever happened whilst Cortese was in charge? can only remember shirts going cheap last when we had the Flybe sponsor. So is this move the influence of the new chairman?
  19. If we were any good at beating the top half sides we'd be contesting for a CL spot. It's obviously an undeniable weakness, but at the end of the day there are several teams in the league who are better than us, hence why we get beaten by them more often than not. Of course, we've shown we can compete with the best sides in the league, but it is always going to be difficult until we continue to spend big for a few seasons. So we can hardly moan at such stats, it's kind of expected really. The season we become capable of picking up 6-7 wins over a season against the top 6/7 sides whilst maintaining a good record against bottom half sides,is the season we will probably have made it to the 'next level'. Is it possible? I'd say doubtful, but there is a small chance
  20. There are so few strikers in the world who are capable of scoring 25 goals in a Premier league season. We moan about J Rod and Lambert, but their goal returns are both respectable already, and with plenty of games left to play. We certainly need a first choice centre back and left back to replace Shaw. Shawcross would be a decent shout, and available for less than 10m I would think. Decent left backs are very hard to come by though. We really need at least one striker, possibly 2. I'd take a gamble on Ings, who I think would come to us if the price is right despite Burnley's inevitable promotion. Griezmann at Sociedad could be a possibility, dependant on Sociedad qualifying for the CL. He can also play out wide, I imagine the transfer fee would be around the £20 million mark. Boruc also needs competition. I've been very impressed with Marshall at Cardiff and would certainly like him here to compete for the no1 spot. Schmeichel will probably be in high demand and for an overpriced transfer fee so maybe not realistic. If we wanted another wide player then Redmond of Nathan Dyer could do a job.So you're looking at around 50-60 million spend for 5-6 players. Hopefully a similar spend to last year. It shouldn't be unrealistic to expect that as we should receive that amount for Osvaldo and Shaw. I'd expect Guly and Hooiveld to depart as well, maybe Lallana. So if anything we might see even more players come in as we don't have a massive squad
  21. Time for us to step it up a gear. Although let's not forget we have won against Liverpool, plus draws against City, United and Arsenal. There's no reason we can't beat Eveton, Spurs, Newcastle and Man United
  22. Thought they looked short on ideas in the final third yesterday. Defence isn't great at all, certainly not the back 4, very much helped by a world class goalkeeper. Bookies have them as odds against so a win for us certainly isn't out of the question. I'd be happy with a point despite all the talk again of a europa place. To achieve that, we need to start beating the likes of Spurs, Everton and Newcastle, something we have so far failed to do this season.
  23. Spurs - 2-1 lose Newcastle - 2-0 win Man City - 3-1 lose Cardiff - 2-2 draw Villa - 0-1 win Everton - 3-3 draw Swansea - 1-1 draw Man Utd - 3-2 win 12 points
  24. 15 points isn't too bad a return from those games. All of a sudden we're not all that far from 6th/7th, despite not being in our best form
  25. Think J Rod would suffer from stage fright at a World Cup. Fed up of all this 'Carroll offers something different' ********. Yes, he's strong in the air, but so is Rickie, except Rickie has a much better all round game. He's far more deserving of a spot IMO. And don't forget if a penalty shoot out is looming, he'd be handy to have on the bench to bring on
