It’s also amusing the ones who say he should be given a run of games to prove himself. Are they the same ones who lamblasted the management for giving the likes of Redmond a run of games and spent the whole time slagging him off from his first game saying he was sh*t and should be dropped? You’d have thought given the manager and coaches, seeing as how they work with the player every day, see them in training, in training matches and know far more about the player than any one posting on an Internet forum there really isn’t a need to throw them in the team for 10 games, deliberately weakening the team in the process, so they can try and prove they are good enough when they’ve done nothing in their entire career to suggest they are going to be.

I completely agree with you about Stephens. I really want him to do well but i cant every see him being up to it. He's a nice player, in that he's nice on the ball, can bring it down and play it when he's got time, but his positioning, reading of the game, heading and tackling are terrible. Some saints fans seem to rate him because to be fair he is okay on the ball, but when your job is to defend and that's one of your weaknesses it becomes a problem. He'll be 25 in 6 months so unless he drastically improves everything he's never going to be good enough to be anything more than a squad player for a premier league teams.

They signed the same summer, Rodriguez signed first and broke our transfer record, previously Rory Delap. Ramirez signed a month or so later. Ramirez actually did quite well in his first series but it soon became apparent he didn’t have the high press running style pochetino wanted. Rodriguez started slowly but was very good end of that season and the folllowing one.

Name a club that has had a record signing that has contributed less. What is it one assist and then couldn’t even make the bench of a team in terrible form who had 3 strikers who only scored 14 goals between them in a season. Pulis, Forecast, Ryan Smith etc may have been crap players but equally they cost nothing. You’d be hard pushed to find a player anywhere who pound for pound has contributed less especially in the circumstances we were in. The fact the manager who signed him was sacked only weeks later makes it even more bizarre.

Got to be up there. A club record fee for a player who after a few weeks of being here couldn’t even get into a squad of a team with 3 other strikers scored less than 14 goals between them in a season. Then to cap it all sacked the manager who signed him a Few weeks later. It’s not like there was even anything in his history to suggest he was going the cut it. Even now it beggars belief. You’d be hard pushed to find that level of incompetence anywhere in the footballing world.

Just been nicked for beating up his missus in Ibizia. the dutch Stan Collymore

Fitzhugh Fella will be over the moon! He’ll need to find another player to blame for everything now though.
-
I was trying to remember who the player was, that was quality. Thank you!
-
Makes sense, he can't be any worse there than he was at centre back.

I remember a game against Norwich in the early 90s when him and Le Tissier were going for a ball and ending up in a good natured roll around on the pitch with them both getting up laughing. the Milton end immediately started singing "brians got a boner" where he responded in exactly the same way, seemed like a top bloke.

Good leader, great passer, through balls that splits defences like the Red Sea I've heard.

does that really matter? How many kids leave home at 18 to go to university and never return to their home area? In any case you can be in Coventry in 2 1/2-3 hours from Southampton on a clear run anyway. Maddison would already have known Ward-Prowse, Target, Redmond and Stephens from England U21s so it's not like he's moving thousands of miles away to play with a bunch of strangers. The fact of the matter is Leicester are a considerably more attractive option to us at the moment and they are spending but doing it wisely. Not many better centre back pairings outside the top 6 than Macguire and Evans for example and they cost around the same as we spent on Hoedt and Bednarek.
-
Agreed. We've always done better with those sort of players and as Shurlock says if you can perform over a 46 game season then mentally and physically you don't need to adapt too much. He would be a great signing.

Good to se Les exerting his influence on the transfer committee again. After two years of foreign managers wanting to bring in the likes of Carillo, Boufal and Pied its refreshing to see Les flexing his muscles again, working closely with our manager to being in young British talent. Well done Les.

R - Reed. Done so much for the club. Absolute legend. Back to back promotions, a cup final, 2 European campaigns and 4 consecutive top 8 finishes. He’s brought some of the finest players ever to play this club through the doors and made the club huge amounts of money. Without question the greatest director of football in premier league history.

Ross Wilson appointed as Director of Scouting & Recruitment

Don't forget the mysterious list of managers we are constantly tracking, which is constantly updated and only Reed has access to. AKA, the currently list of unemployed managers. -
Bas Dost William Carvalho Rui Patricio Gelson Martins Bruno Ferandes all available on frees after terminating their contacts with Sporting Lisbon!

2 series - why? BMW seem to be trying to solve a need that isn't there, really don't see the attraction. merc C Class - had one - it was awful. Like driving a tank, sluggish pulling out of junctions, poorly equipped inside. BMW One series - The best of a pretty woeful 3, decent enough but pretty dull and uninspiring. If you aren't bothered about owning a car then lease, provided you're not to fussed about what you get. You can get some amazingly good deals leasing, a lot of the guys at out work use nationwide vehicle contracts. If you're looking at a c class then you might as well pay the extra £50-£75 or so a month and upgrade to a E class coupe, far superior car, as I mentioned, I wasn't impressed by the C Class I had. Pluses of leasing, it's a brand new car, you wont be stung be depreciation, and you don't have to worry if anything goes wrong with it. Minuses you'll never own it, you're essentially renting it. Be realistic about your mileage and be aware that you If you scuff up the alloys or get any dents or scratches then you could be liable for the cost when you hand it back. I'm seriously considering leasing next as I can get a decent car allowance from work so it doesn't cost me any money out of my salary, in fact if I get a decent enough deal i'll actually make a couple of hundred quid a month. However I've would always say the best thing you can do in terms of cost effective which is depending on your mileage is get a 4 loan out and buy a car 2-3 years old. It's already done the bulk of it's deprecation by then and if you're mileage is low enough (c10k per year or below) in 3 years time it will only have depreciated by another 20-25% of what you paid for it, meaning you'll be better off in your pocket. My current car is an A5, brilliant car, great drive, looks good, quick for it's size, very comfortable. New price c£38k, can pick one up now 2 years old with lower mileage than mine has for C£22k. Add another 30k miles on you'll still be able to get £13-£16k for it. Clear off the remainder of the loan and you'll have about £8k left over to put down on your next one. Bingo. One more tip, if you want to remain single carry on only worrying about getting golf clubs in the back of your motor, if you want to get a laid then try not to play so much, I don't mind a bit of golf now and again but most people who play a lot are incredibly dull people, who spend far too much time playing it and even more time boring everyone about it FFS. the only hole a 29 year old single lad should be thinking about putting into is the available ones on the courses on a Saturday night, there is plenty of time to clear off for the day with your golf pals when you're married with kids.

Your second last paragraph hits the nail on the head. In the 90s and 00s a day out was interrupted then ruined by the football. From 09-16 you had a good day out and enjoyed the game. Now we’ve reverted back to type. The major difference is now clubs are only interested in TV figures or fans who will turn up politely clap whatever the score, will buy stuff in the shop and feed their chubby little faces with as much horrific food as they can stuff in it. There really isn’t any point going to premier league games, as someone else said it’s a league of 6 Harlem globetrotters and 14 Washington generals. We are on of the teams served up as lambs to slaughter for the fawning tv audience. If you dare to defy them then be prepared to feel the wrath of Crooks, Redknapp, Murphy or any other ***** paid a fortune to tell us how great the self titled greatest league in the world is.

The problem we have like in 2005 is we’re paying a hell of a lot of money to players either not good enough or not delivering Stephens is supposed to be on £48k a week i know he’s over rated on here but no way should be in our best starting 11 Target 2nd choice left back also meant to be on £48k a week Long - c£60k how much does that work out per goal? Austin £70k a week and only fit for half a season Boufal, Carrillo, Forster, all probably +£50k a week and not starters You’ve got the best part of £500k a week in wages there for players who either aren’t starting regularly or shouldn’t be.

I remember when people used to say that about Papa Waigo and Tanadari Lee.
