good shout on Southgate, as an ex Centre Half himself that would also certainly spell the end of our defensive woes as well as clout in the transfer market. I'd expect us to be snapping up experienced premier league players like Jonathan Woodgate to fill the void Fonte has left.

Damn, how could i have omited Cloud Wines and the numerous take aways which inlcude Teds Fish Bar, for the best traditional english take away money can buy, outside of which, there is of course ample parking for your Ferrari.

I'd like to see your yardstick for measuring how affected the club has been. Of course the echo wont score goals, pick teams and buy players. However it's useful to the club in other ways. For example it has good relationships with a lot of local businesses and the club and Cortese can use this to promote themselves to them. We clearly aren't doing a very good job of this at the moment by the fact we have over 1000 empty corprate seats and only half the boxes full despite being in the premier league. The echo could have helped with that, so from that point of view it has affected the club and not positively. It's all very well lauding it and arrogant comments like Super Mikeys "we dont need them we are in the premier league" comment and that they should do what they have to to keep Cortese sweet. What if it all goes sour? What if we go down and start to struggle financially again? You can guarentee we'll go cap in hand to those we are showing distain for at the moment and it's not just the echo, it's a lot of local business. Always remember, be nice to the people you meet on the way up as you might need them on your way down.

I can see this taking off. Our average fan looks fat, scruffy and stupid so a tight fitting t-shirt would fit well with the rest of their gormless scruffy apperance.

Who is now being linked with Chelsea and Arsenal!!! http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2892/transfer-zone/2013/01/04/3645637/chelsea-arsenal-liverpool-track-southampton-teenager-matt?source=breakingnews

I can imagine their tour of Southampton to sell him the city will begin with lunch at Nicks restruant. Followed by a a walk around Mayflower Park where he might be lucky to catch a glimpse of some tourists setting sail one of the many wonderfuls ships to visit the port. They'll discuss contract terms as they walk past the Quays into West Quay, where Cortese will point out the wonderful shopping in high fashion outles such as Hollister, Republic and USC. They will take the lift in John Lewis which provides a panoramic view of Mamas and Papas before a lesuirely walk past the fining dining available at TJI Fridays and Frankie and Bennies where they will arrive at Oceana just in time for happy hour where they will down 2 for 1 cocktails before sealing the deal.

at least people will stop whining we haven't signed anyone in the transfer window now.

I'd like to see a proper experienced man brought in in a DOF role. Someone who understands English football and someone who knows the Premier league. Someone with a bit of clout and would be a big draw for players. Someone like Ron Atkinson, Don Howe or David Pleat would be ideal.
-
The club also benefits from having a close relationship with the echo by the way. I guess no one considered that when according to supermikey because Cortese is a stroppy little f*cker they should bow down before him if he asks them too.
-
All overseen by Les Reed who once wrote the FA coaching manual dontcha know. If there is anyone who can nuture him and enable this young, hungry player who is guarenteed to improve, its him.
-
the 3 core qualities of every young player we sign.
-
Lets hope he isn't a frightend Isaac.

Have the echo asked you for your comment on this yet Steve? Have you prepared a statement for them?
-
He did well at Bishops Stortford.
-
Thats the second time youve refered to him as being "little" yet Wiki says he is 6 ft 2. Is this a racial sterotype?
-
You're not comparing like with like though, how can anyone say he is the best manager weve had until he's proven himself in the premier league like the others did? You seem to belittle the achievements of the others, Hoddle was an idiot, Strachan was lucky, Ball just a nice bloke. So why not say Adkins was lucky to be here in time when we've had more money than ever before and inherited a championship side playing in L1? I'm not belittling what Adkins has achieved but If you're gong to dismiss the achievements of the others then you could easily dismiss what Adkns has achieved.
-
Really? Strachan took us to 8th and a cup final Hoddle took us to a top half side Nicholl took us to 7th and in reality we were never really in danger of relegation with his as boss and played some great stuff. Alan Ball, took us from side going down to a midtable one. All done with far less money than Adkns has had. There are 4 who could be considered better than Adkins.
-
I work with an ex pro. He was on saints books and got released but played for a couple of L1 and L2 clubs before ending up playing non league. He tells me when Souness was here, some players only joined because of him. Also he himself signed for a L2 club because of who the manager was, a former premier league player. I know it's a lower level but the principle remains the same BTW I'm not for one minute advocating Adkins being sacked, just posing the question for discussion.
-
Why are you getting stroppy? Nick G said that managers need to be at the right club, I posed the question that now, given the players Cortese wants to bring in, are we still the right club for him, or do we need and benefit from a higher profile manager. Just because you cant comprehend the point its no need to hijack the thread, other people have managed to understand it without sulking.
-
Why does it annoy you? It's true, you say so yourself. I know a lot of people look at everything in a cute, naive way but that doesn't mean that is how it is. In the real world it's very, very difficult for an upcoming manager to prove themselves.
-
I'm not talking about Gross specifically, really don't think he is a possibility. More high profile managers generally. Di Matteo, for example, was a top player and has a champions league win under his belt as a manager. One of the main reasons given for Michu join Swansea was playing for Laudrup. Some players would play for a manager like that rather than having to google Nigel Adkins.
-
Is that why his first big signing was Rickie Lambert and we ended up with Neil Trottman in our back 4?
-
I think you may be struggling. I'm not talking about why Adkins will be sacked. I'm posing the question, given the sort of played Cortese wants at this club, are we still the right club for him and would the club be easier to sell to players if we had s higher profile manager.

Some right little grasses on here I can tell thee.
