  1. That's the point, Holmes is a nice fella, he's going to say nice things. However, Holmes comments are lauded with "wow, look what he's saying, isn't life at SFC so great" and gospel, whereas a different view from Puncheon was greeted with "the blokes a tosser" Surely they both have the same inside info, so why is one view, ironically the one everyone wants to believe greeted with slaps on the backs and the other, the one not so popular greeted with howls of derision? And you're right. Amidst all the celebration that a nice ex player leaving the club makes nice comments shocker, People have actually lost sight of what he did say. It is nothing like the "Saints are definitely going to the champions league" MLG and the Intellient posters type translation of it. More what those of us stuck with a Dell sized midset have been saying. That we can build and establish ourselves as a top half club and have a go at the Europa league as some point.
  2. What I do find highly amusing is that people are prepared to take Lee Holmes "inside" knowledge a gospel yet dismiss Jason Puncheon as a tosser we should get shot of when he critisised te regime. Surely they'd both have as much inside knowledge as each other. Holmes is a nice chap who has been well looked after despite not playing regularly in his 4 year here. He is a practising Christian so he's going to say nice things!! Why is his inside knowledge yet more evidence of our ambition, drive, champions league match underway. Yet Puncheons critisicms the ramblings of a tosser with an attitude who need to get rid of?
  3. He has skill and he's a totally different player to Sharp. Sharp is a poacher, they are totally different types of players. Sharp won't try to "out fox" Kompany because he isn't that sort of player. I simply find the idea that a player who haa struggled in one league will be better against better opposition ridiculous. Name me other players who have suddenly turned into world beaters upon promotion after failing to deliver consistently in the championship.
  4. It is very simple logic which is why I don't understand why people contiunue to maintain that you get more time on the ball. Surely if all defenders in the championship do is charge around the the likes of guly with their amazig ability will be able to nick it past them, a dummy ot a faint and away they go, no? Read yesterday papers, Eden Hazard, according to some of them, needs to bulk up a bit to be a success in the premier league? Why is this when he'll have defenders standing off him an be able to waltz through them using his skill? The higher you go the better the players. Come on GWC, you do a blog, I'd expect you to at least have half a clue what you're on about.
  5. I find it hilarious people claim te higher up you go the more time and space you get. If that was the case then everyone with a crap first touch would thrive in the premier league, they'd have plenty of time to make up for it as they get more Time on the ball, apparently!!!! Guess what, the beat defenders are the best defenders because they can snap a striker in half AND play, or Do you really think the likes of Vidic and Kompany are great defenders because they stand off and allow players MORE time on the ball?!! Or is it that in top flight players touch, pace and skill level is better so their ability allows them more time? As I said above I'vw defended Guly and have no problem with him but let's not delude ourselves into think he's going to be so much better playing against world class defenders because they'll all stand off him and let him play.
  6. Please explain? What has he done since Christmas? All his good performances and goals, with the exception of the odd one here and there came before christmas. I'm a Guly fan and I've argued with fans at home and away games in defence him. However i dont undrstand the logic that a player who has been struggling at time in the championship is suddenly going to become brilliant when they go up a level.
  7. The difference being of course were both very good in League one and the championship. Morgan is young and learning so always going to improve. Why is Guly, who has done nothing since before christmas, suddenly going to become great by going UP a level?
  8. Stop getting yourself at it Adrian. He asked "When is the last time that Saints signed a player who is in his early 20's, highly regarded and whom some people think has the potential to play for England?" The answer was David Prutton.
  9. Why on earth would a player look better in the premier league than in league one?
  10. The difference being of course Walcott didn't belittle us in the media or engineer his move this way.
  11. Are they considering it to be their biggest game in the history of their club?
  12. Which is exacty what those of us who have been called negative and so in the past have been saying all along. It is entirely realistic and possible for us to aim and become a top half club who have good cup runs and challenge for the Europa league. Its quite something different from what the self titled intelligent posters are stamping their feet and claiming that we are definitely going to make the champions league, we definitely need a 50k stadium to house all the fans who are going to come here from Cornwall every week instead of going to Old Trafford and we can definitely do it without spending hundreds of millions. The reason it's definitely possible to achieve all this? Because they said once that man would never walk on the moon or something.
  13. So you dont think Guthrie is better than Hammond and Chaplow?? You dont think he'd be good competition with Cork and Schiniderlin and you dont think he'd be a good signing on a free? Are you sure you know anything about football sunshine? If you think that you'd better get yourself on mumsnet.
  14. Whilst everything you say is entirely sensible and accurate you are missing a few crucial points which the self titled intelligent posters will slaughter you for, so i'm going to beat them to the punch. That is that when Charlton finished midtable they only averaged about 25k or something and we averaged more than that depsite being in the championship. Proof that we are a massive club. That we need a 45k stadium. Bigger than Everton and Aston Villa but not comparable to Leeds. Charlton dont have rich and ambitious owners who are billionaires we means we can outbid the entire combinded rest of the premier league outside of the top 4 for any player we want who are falling over each other to join us. We are marching towards the Champions league and its well within our grasp already, afterall Cortese has already achieved the near on impossible of taking us out of league one and winning the Paint Pot. Oh and did i mention we took 50k to Wembley that day? The same as Millwall and Luton have in recent season but forget that, it's more evidence that no club has a catchment area like ours does, which covers everything south of London, Birmigham up to Liverpool, that is all ours and everyone who just fancies watching a bit of football one day will travel from Ilfracombe and Truro and Yeovil and Shepton Mallet and Warwick to see the Mighty Southampton.
  15. This is the first step on the way to the flexible, easy jet style pricing that certain posters were so keen on. This version of it gives ou acess to the Channon suite and posh toilets. Stand by for more flexible pricing offers from SFC, giving the game back to the fans.
  16. You're kidding right? A very decent player and much better than Hammond and Chaplow. Provide some good competition for Cork and Schniderlin. Let them fight it out for the CM spots. Would be very good business to pick hI'm up for nowt.
  17. Not Good enough for Newcastle, not good enough for us. Why do we want their cast offs when we are both pushing for the champions league FFS?
  18. Jesus Christ Pat!!! the lad isn't in the country to sign the deal even if he was chomping at the bit too!!! Which he may well be for all we know.
  19. I can. But I'm not going because I like sitting with my mates not a load of posh, boring JCL c*nts with no idea what is going on on the pitch.
  20. Haha Adi Akinbiyi!! a shocker striker who once cost nearly £5m. Puts the £7m for Jay rod in perspective!
  21. Another one that can't read threads properly. I never said we couldn't. It was dumbass that arrogantly assumed every player we bid against Swansea for will join us because we richer and the fact we charge more for season tickets proves this. I know if you've reinvented yourself as a mong board hardman recently but at least try and read and understand posts before entering a conversation with a cyber windmill.
  22. He'd still make a decent squad player. Despite what a lot of our clueless fans think he is a good player. Hes not first choice material at PL level but definitely one who can come in and do a job in a number of positions.
  23. David Prutton. That went well.
  24. Curtis Davies linked for £3m, Ince linked for 2-3m = £13m not that different to what Swansea and Noriwch spent last year. Plus we have the rest of chamberlain money burning a hole in our pocket and no debt. I can us maybe spending £20m if the right players are available at the right price.
