Luke shaw was a bit different as he had a man’s physique at 17, he did an awful lot of strength training which meant he could compete in first team football which is often the difference. I remember hearing a Man U player saying when Shaw first joined was in the gym bench pressing 120kg which is phenomenal for a footballer. JWP might have stated but it was another 3 or so seasons before he really became a first team regular starter. Remember how Gareth Bale looked when he left us a scrawny 17 year old kid yet 3 years later at spurs he had the physique of a superhero. We had an option to buy but athletico had to pay us a fee to cancel that so they could sell him to another club. After his great season here on loan he got a lot of interest and spurs swooped in to nick him. I believe he would be happy to come or spurs but spurs got the deal done.
