Yes, late 90s. He was awful, not Lee Todd awful but pretty bad. The worst centre back I’ve ever seen at saints was a player most wont remember called Scott Mashall. Dave Jones signed him from arsenal for about £500k, he was considered a bit of a coup. He played two games for us we conceded 9 goals in those games, he scored two own goals and I don’t think he ever played for us again, he made Steven Caulker look like Bobby Moore.
-
If we'd have have signed him when we should have and also managed to tie the deal up for Maddision last summer when we were in for him we'd have a great chance of winning the netspend trophy again this summer. As it is Chelsea are off to a flyer and I fear we wont catch up.

Man City and United both trying to sign Harry McGuire for £90m. Anyone on here still think jack Stephens is better?
-
Don’t worry about it our fans will get it wrong and come up with some wacky nickname for him anyway. Moose Djenepoo if he’s not brilliant after 2 games. The Malian Jonathan Forte apparently.

You don’t half come out with some nonsense.

Quite. To put things into perspective, despite Fitzhugh Fella obsession with championing Gallaghers cause Che Adams scored more goals last season than Gallagher has in his entire career. Also despite his claims that Gallagher kept Adams out of the side when they were both at Birmingham Adams scored more goals than Gallagher that season too (9 in all competitions v Gallaghers 7, from one less game) If neither player played for us I know which one i'd want to sign.

Win percentage when Verstergaars starts 34.8% Wins percentage when he doesn’t 6.7% Win percentage when Stephens starts 10.5% Win percentage when he doesn’t 36.8% Coincidence?

Is it? Or is it simply that people are fed up with us winning the net spend trophy every year and a few cheer leaders explain it away that we have to pay agents fees and bonuses, like no other club does. We’ve been in austerity mode since 2014, we had to stop the bleeding after Corteses overspending we were told, which was true, yet here we are 5 years on, still needing to tighten our belts despite 5 years of profit from transfers, posting record profits and supposedly more commercial income than we’ve ever had before. It’s absolutely laughable that the cheerleaders try and explain away our profit from transfer windows as being needed to pay agents fees and bonuses whilst Newcastle fans absolutely lamblast Mike Ashley as being a tight fisted cockney wan’er when he’s sanctioned spending of nearly £100m more than they’ve raked in from transfers in the same period. Guess they don’t have to pay those pesky agents do they.

Do you mean success to the owners of the club or fans? Clearly the sane fans amongst us would consider success a top ten finish, a good cup run, the odd European campaign whilst playing attractive football success. For the owners of the club I would suggest staying up whilst making the minimum investment possible is success. Carrying on our imperious reign of the net spend trophy is of course vital to this.

It’s too early to say. If he’s good he will be Ralph signing or possibly one Paul Mitchell had identified before he left. If he’s crap he will be a Ross Wilson signing or possibly one bumbling Les had tied up before he got the boot. We can revisit this around Christmas time to give an informed decision.

This is great news. It should enable us to tap into the Japanese market early to pick up players of the Calibre of Tanadari lee before anyone else does. It’ll give us a Japanese base to head to for pre or post season tours to increase our breadth of literally tens of fans who support us in japan. All in all a great move from the club which can only increase our global appeal.

I thought you’d have realised by now most people on here don’t have a clue what they’re on about. It’s not weird they just don’t understand.

Rather than grass roots level I think these should be tried out in woman’s football. It’ll be great for women’s football to be the pioneers of all the changes and raise the profile of the game, ultimately if it works in front of a couple of hundred fans at a professional women’s game it’s more likely to work and be easier to transfer to the mans game than in parks football. Plus There will be less arguing about the decisions (unless it’s time of the month) and if the decisions don’t work no one cares about the results anyway so there is no downside.
