Damned if he does,damned if he does'nt. If he had said nothing people would assume truth in the press speculation,so he attempts to quel this by releasing a statement. And so,a few months down the line Pardew is axed for whatever reason,that does not indicate Cortese was telling untruths in his original statement. How many chairman release a statement showing they back the manager only for circumstances to change later down the line. Unless you can see into the future you are on a lose lose situation.
