  1. But surely that's the difference between climate and weather? Whilst I don't buy into "man has caused climate change" routine it would be somewhat daft not to accede to the scientific knowledge base. When people say that the science is wrong it reminds me of all those people who said the science was wrong about smoking, heart transplants, IVF etc..... Is the climate changing? Yes. Is man to blame? Doubt it. Is man making it worse? Probably.
  2. He's correct in so much that it different issue regarding climate change. CFC's destroy the ozone layer, even the old USSR. communist China and the USA agreed on that and that is why the decision to ban the use of CFCs was world wide was undertaken, without much argument it should be said. It was simple chemistry hence the agreement. It was also agreed that it would take the ozone layer decades to repair itself, as is happening, again, this is down to simple chemistry. The current climate change debate is different and like many I believe in nature but also accept that man has an impact and I find it odd that folk think that we don't. I also find it odd that folk don't want to develop energy security as importing our oil, gas and coal is not a good idea!
  3. I thought Dune was the dumbest poster on here but actually, it's you. You combine not being very bright with a clear lack of understanding of the topic. Why don't you go away, research the dash for gas, gas privatisation and make an informed decision regarding why the government decided to close the profitable coal mines. Anyone who feels that being reliant on importing our coal, gas and oil is a good thing deserves to take over the dumb crown from Dune.
  4. Why? Many of us really do hope that she dies soon. You very bizarrely seem to think that loathing for Maggie excludes loathing for Blair and his illegal wars.
  5. They had an Ismlaic marriage and not a legal marriage in the UK sense. It is these sorts of decisions which leave ordinary folk, for all sides of the political spectrum, baffled and angry.
  6. The problem is, IMHO, the Brits have become too hung up on having unis competing with the US ones. Germany, for example, doesn't and nor do the Benelux or Scandinavian states and no one would suggest that their HE sector is poor but what they do do, way better than us, is service the needs of business/the state. Perhaps if politicos/uni chancellors of all ilks concentrated on what uni was actually for, instead of where they are ranked on a global scale, the whole system would turn out better.
  7. It was snowing in Walsall at 16.00!
  8. Which sums up everything that is wrong. Ability should be the bellweather for success and a uni place, not the wealth of parents or the genuine fear of a mountain of debt by potential students. It's also unsurprising that the hard of thinking fail to factor in the accured "normal" debts that students will rack up alongside the £30k of liability (paid back on normal terms in addition to fee repayments) but that would involve thought and not just blind acceptance of the government line. Or course, I don't have a clue about anything to do with it, what with only being a HoD in FE.
  9. No, it's not and I'm not surprised that a tory fails to grasp that. It they believed in equality they really wouldn't be scrapping the EMA.
  10. A lot of lefties do hold rather utopian ideas but like anything where you stand in relation to the centre is important, in the same way right wingers can be from the One Nation wing and others are neo-nazis. To me being a leftie is about giving life opportunities to sectors of society that are often excluded through education. I don't want to see lives wasted in a benefits reliant cycle and I have seen the benefits education brings to disenfranchised groups if it is delivered well. Personally I have no issues with wealth (I have a major issue with the tax avoidance of the seriously wealthy such as Philip Green) and I enjoy the benefits of a good wage and fruits of a successful private business venture and I would like all to aspire to the trappings of success. I am comfortable with that outlook and my place in building an equitable society based on ability and not birthright and will raise my children to understand that hard work and education are their keys to a bright future.
  11. No, I haven't I'm afraid. My sister goes with her brood to Corsica and loves it. I'll be sticking with Sardinia, although not this year
  12. Not every tory is a c**t but every c**t I've ever met has been a tory.
  13. Hard pressed to beat Sardinia as a holiday destination. My wife, kids and I love it.
  14. The 1st half was as poor a performance that I've ever seen from saints. 2nd half wasn't much better. The atmosphere was as flat as can be as well.
  15. Where I'm sat they are nor happy bunnies. Stupid mistakes but the whole atmospere is very flat.
  16. The worst half of football I've ever seen from saints in the worst atmosphere.
  17. Part of the problem is that fees levied at £9k per year are just the tuition fees. On top of that accomodation fees etc need to be factored in which also need to be paid back. My mates nipper is in his 1st term at Leicester uni. His fees for his halls are £110 per week and he had to pay for 40 weeks! As was also mentioned on R4, and something I hadn't realised, mortgage providers are increasing basing their mortgage offers of disposable income and that is going to have a big impact of the ability of graduates to get on the property ladder. What will put many off is the thought of being £30k - £40k in debt when they are starting out in life. We struggle to recruit enough science and maths students into teaching as it is and even the GTC and IfL expect the numbers to fall as the impact filters through. Oh, and Stanley, I couldn't give a sh*t what you call me or who knows that I was sent down for my role at Maze Hill 9 years ago. It matters to me not one iota. It clearly doesn't matter of OFSTED either as I've just be graded as outstanding in an orgaisation graded as good.
  18. It will be interesting to see who the residents tory c**ts feel when their kids face debts of £30k + for going to uni. Stanley is obviously excluded as he'll still be at home with mum for the duration.
  19. Listening to a number of interviews with those involved in the rioting it would appear that their anger was aimed at the scrapping of EMA. In the Black Country community OB expect crime to rise from January as plenty of NEETS won't bother with courses etc as EMA will no longer be available from then to new entrants. Two of the charities who I worked closely with, who are very successful in getting NEETS into jobs or FE are laying off staff as the projected intake is down by 80%
  20. Hilary Clinton is on record saying they were offered a full set to redact but refused. She stated it in the news conference when the story broke. I'm guessing the Secretary Of State knows if the US government said no or not, as it was her call.
  21. Us teachers/tutors/lecturers must be really thick to do a job where we get sh*t loads of dosh after a few years service and 13 weeks holiday per annum. Just think, if we'd only gotten a HND we too could have a non skilled job, work shifts and still live at home with mum. I feel my extensive post graduate qualifications have been wasted.
  22. Like many of my generation I quite like being a part of Europe but even I baulk at being "in" Europe. I love the freedom of movement, right to work etc but I'd be manning the barricades if they attempted to coerce us into a full union or the euro.
  23. Adkins has managed at a higher level than Ricky has played. Adkins dropped down a division and has not gone up two as Sturrock did. So, to summarise, you're a c**t.
  24. What part of "season ticket holder" confused you? I genuinely pity those who have gotten moist and the prospect of playing Blackpool in the FAC 3rd. I'm not sure what's sadder the moist ones who think it's some sort of duty, akin to parenthood, to attend every game or those who actually think the FAC matters at all. All that matters this season is promotion and the cup is a distraction and leads to fixture congestion which, IMHO, cost us a play off place last season.
  25. That some gimpoids on here get a semi on at the idea of playing Blackpool in the 3rd Rd of the FAC comes as no surprise. That Holloway has his team playing a refreshingly bright style is not in doubt but as a season ticket holder I've no, none, nada, zip, zilch, nowt interested in shelling out on tickets/travel for a game that even my nipper, who at 8 loves all things Saints, went "meh" at. The league is all that matters but no doubt the usual gimps won't understand that and think it's 2003 all over again!
