  1. The bloody problem is a negative approach in the last half hour. We usually make changes from about 65 minutes, take off attackers and bring on negative players, then we defend deeper and deeper, have fewer outlets up front and start hoofing the ball out and waiting for it to come back in. Last night was classic, We take Waigo off whilst he was running them ragged, ok he was offside a few times, we left James on and brought Antonio on wide right. It would have been better in a defensive sense to leave Waigo and Lambert up front and bring Antonio on in place of James wide right. Mellis for Schneiderlin added nothing and Wotton heading the ball back to the opposition and giving the ball away half the time or passing it back the rest of the time was asking for trouble. I think the manager has an Achilles heel, he is essentially workmanlike but errs on the side of caution. Bringing on negative players at the end doesn't make it safer and easier to defend as it means as there are fewer outlets and a mass of players retreating towards their own goal, the initiative and possession is handed on a plate to the opposition at a time when they should be at their most vulnerable. I come from the school of thought, that leaving for arguments sake Waigo and Lambert up front plus Antonio right midfield and Lallana left midfield with a normal centre midfield tightening up in front of the back four gives better possession and greatly enhanced opportunity to attack the opposition if they throw caution to the winds which they do with impunity the way we go negative. I think the mere fact the opposition can't press forward because of the extreme pace now up front plus Lambert and Lallana would take the pressure off the defence and stop the ball continually being lost. Besides the wide men would still track the opposition's wide men. Having the slow Wotton and James on at the same time reduces the team's ability to break out and keep the ball and makes us play backwards and deep..
  2. Big plusses for me, I felt much more comfortable with Bart in goal, Waigo despite the offsides gives us a cutting edge that is very difficult to handle. Adam Lallana worked his socks off and is playing well down our left, tracking back and getting into dangerous positions when the play is down the right. Morgan Schneiderlin is beginning to get the measure of English winter football and just needs to start driving for the box more when the ball is out wide.
  3. Waigo would get in my team every match. He tracks back, works hard, rarely gives the ball away, hit a beautiful crossfield pass last night, is lightning quick. He lays on goals and gets to the byeline and is regularly getting into the box and scoring some goals. He put one over the top yesterday from close in but nobody else in the team had the pace to even get near it. His cross for the goal was quality as was the cross for Lallana's goal on Saturday. On another occasion last night he got to the byeline and because he was so quick and nobody bust a gut to get into the box, he had to pull it back to the edge of the penalty area for the nearest support strolling up. He is a pretty unique player in this league and his pace makes him pretty near unplayable at times. We couldn't score from play until he joined us and together with Antonio gives us real pace. I would like to see him play alongside Lambert with Antonio wide right. I see him as an alternative to Connolly also as alternatives wide right and left. I think he is a valuable asset.
  4. For me, it's try and win every match, strengthen the side again in january, get a winnining habit and see where it takes us. The long term solution is promotion as soon as possible, build the strongest team possible, and take everything we can on the way.
  5. Canada Saint is in Edmonton, Alberta.
  6. 1) poor team at home, 2) better team at home, 3)Man Utd (75000) or Arsenal (60000) away, 4) any televised game.
  7. Alan Pardew said the same on the OS tonight.
  8. Always the same ones. The lady behind me goes at the half time whistle and is back with the drinks (not the bar), inside 5 mins, so it can't be the queuing. One chap and his young son behind us come in after 5 minutes at the start and halftime, never on time.
  9. I thought it was obvious, agreeing.
  10. FFS it's a no brainer.

Read my post on here, he addressed my criticisms both against Norwich and Hartlepool. Obviously Pardew sorted the lack of tracking back when necessary. Players can't just play off the cuff all the time and he has proved that being more disciplined hasn't detracted from his performance, but has enhanced it.
  12. I think full season loans don't allow recall.
  13. He had a game or two for Mid Hant's schools but didn't shine. Played for Corinthians, then Winchester City made his Saints debut a few days before his 18th birthday on 16th March 1957 v Brentford.
  14. Yes.
  15. Are you his girlfriend? You obviously know him well because you are repeating what David Lallana had said previously and only omitted the bit about not moving and wanting to play at least 40 first team games this year. I know you aren't David Lallana as he has said he doesn't post on here.
  16. "If you give him permission to play we won't pick him, then his suspension can be covered if he gets the yellow card we expect in the next game."

No he is not, after the Brighton game his indiscipline was obviously an issue and was sorted because he was excellent against Norwich, tracking back when needed. It didn't inhibit his attacking side in the least but made us better for it.
  18. Solent retracted that when they realised he is not allowed to play in the FA cup. It seems certain he will miss the Wycombe game next Tuesday.
  19. He did well at Barnsley and OK in JPT and tonight.
  20. JH in hospital with appendicitis, Addie's wife diagnosed with ovarian cancer with some spread. Good win tonight sounds like Lallana the only one playing. He seems to have been motivated by the criticism from the Brighton game. Davis, torn groin out until the new year.
  21. That's what I thought. PCC had to find £20m and voted 24 -13 against bidding.
  22. At a meeting today the city council took the decision that Portsmouth would not bid for games in the world cup. Bearing in mind the previous announcement could it be that the club/city council would now be in a position to step in. I think there is a deadline for the application.
  23. FFS its simple, they went up scheduled yesterday, two nights in hotel and flying back scheduled on Wednesday. Where on earth do you think they are going Pyongyang, it's only Newcastle. Tired, Stress, hanging around in four star hotels and a bit of training, if they don't put in a performance after that sort of pampering they need sorting.
  24. Hour approximately in the air Mon, hotel Mon and Tuesday nights, fly back Wed hardly a long difficult trip for the staff. It's the supporters that have the long difficult trip.
  25. No. He knocks the ball down or palms it out if there is any pace at all on the shot. He doesn't catch shots unless they are low pace.
