Correct. Game was crying out for someone to create chances. Fullbacks are not the same quality as last season. Tadic and Juanmi on the bench. Koeman wanted a clean sheet. I can understand it in a way but Watford are a poor side and were there for the taking, if only we could create some worthwhile chances.

What Sort of team of team are Watford?

I agree Tadic could play in the no 10 role. I posted such early last season. He has the qualities to play it. Form is another matter but I think it's worth giving him a go. Only proviso, he'd need to move the ball a bit quicker sometimes.

Post-Match Reaction: SAINTS 1-1 FC Midtjylland

I remain optimistic. For all that it was a another flakey performance we are beter than them and should still go through. And there is dross left in this competition. I watched the second half of Sloven Liberec v Hadjuk Split and it was cr@p. -

Of course Koeman wasn't disinterested. He was p1ssed off with the blatant time wasting and weak refereeing (and maybe the hoofing his team descended to) like the rest of us. Oh and he's on crutches. -

Disappointing that we went long in the final quarter of the match but understandable maybe. Took our midfield out of the game. Had they scored again we'd probably have been out effectively. Anyone (Dutch posters?) know how and who created the goals for Pelle at Feyenoord because he's feeding off scraps at the moment. Couldn't see anything wrong with Caulker's goal. On the other hand the penalty was soft. Ref was a pussy. -

http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/13613758.Saints_manager_Koeman_has_faith___but_also_issues_warning/?ref=rss Koeman talks of the difficulties of bedding in new players for the second season in a row and the need to allow players time to adapt....so the club responds by selling a few more? Seems unlikely doesn't it.

And a creditable draw for your plucky little club against the mighty Crawley as well. Happy days eh?

English, homegrown, in the final year of her contract. Time to get rid. Anyway, I heard she's off her trolley. -
I'm led to believe this is good news. The time to worry is when nobody wants to buy our players.

Interesting debate about Cedric. I'm never one to make snap judgements of players but I must admit that Cedric has given me cause for concern defensively. I'll put it no stronger than that because he has attributes going forward and he will improve as he adapts. What bothers me is his positional play and the timing of his tackles, which to be fair are fairly fundamental requirements for a defender (a positive is that these things can be coached). He mistimed tackles against Lukaku and previously Obertan. He got in too close and got done by both of them. It's not about relative strength but about positioning and timing of tackles. I think it was deliberate tactic by Everton to put power and pace on our flank, i.e. targetting those areas. We made it all the easier for them by ceding centre midfield. Being new, Cedric is disadvantaged by not knowing the players he's up against. It was clear to all of us that Barkley was going to come onto his right to shoot. I've seen it only in real time but my recollection is that Cedric didn't attempt to show him down the left. Very difficult against Barkley who is quality in those positions and may have scored against any full back from there, and I wouldn't hold it against Cedric. He will get to know his opposition. I think he'll improve.

Thanks. Tickets and train booked now. It's ours today. Mrs G won't be coming. After 24 years she didn't bat an eyelid when I told her. I'd think twice about doing the same if it were 12 September, though after 43 years you need no advice on the subject.

I see he's got the elbow raised.

To play so many offensive players against a pacy counter attacking side when our central midfield and defence has been significantly weakened is a highly questionable tactic. Romeu's quality.

Like what I see on the vids (usual disclaimer). Looks like a cross between MS and Carrick. -
Three good goals but that apart I thought it was a poor quality game, albeit packed with incident and a fair few chances. Newcastle are big and strong going forward and caused us problems down the channels, especially first half. As in the Vitesse away fixture we didn't retain possession well. Davis had a good second half. Pelle was good throughout. Content with the result if not the performance.
