It's not a case of whether they should or not, it's a case of how they would be perceived should they refuse to pay any debt, regardless of claims over whether it would be valid or not. As for using the Pound, Salmond seems to be pinning some of his hopes on a Plan B that hopes no-one notices the difference between Currency Union and Sterlingisation.

They go that route, no country in the world will touch them financially with a bargepole, let alone London.
