Safe Standing Bill in Parliament - template letter now attached
stevegrant replied to bungle's topic in The Saints
Attached to this post is a template letter to send to your MP. Within the letter are a number of placeholders, denoted by square brackets. Simply delete/replace as applicable and send to your MP. You can find out who your MP is at http://www.writetothem.com - however, I would recommend not contacting the MP through this site, but going to their own website and contacting them through that. Most have their own site with postal and email addresses publicly visible. Template Standing Letter.doc -
It's difficult to have much sympathy with the likes of Anson who put his name to the letter to the ExCo members after the Panorama broadcast when they cry foul after the event when the rest of us knew exactly what was going to happen and what has been going on for years. Proper investigative journalism, such as that used by Andrew Jennings in the Panorama programme, is a dying art around the world for fear of offending people. Without that fear, a chance to expose the likes of Jack Warner still exists, so fair play to Jennings for his determination and persistence. I am quite surprised he's the only journalist banned from FIFA HQ though

Not 100% sure, some of the stadia in Germany are really steep (Dortmund, for example) while others are the complete opposite (Stuttgart). -
You forget that Spain/Portugal were heavily involved in Qatar getting the 2022 tournament. What they didn't reckon on was Russia being better, quicker and more covert at getting vote promises for 2018.

They were up in arms when he was first appointed, "this job's too big for a rookie", etc.
 -
They've done better than expected in Europe (although take a look at the Bundesliga and Serie A tables to see that neither Inter or Bremen have been anywhere near their best this season), but haven't been anything special in the league so far, IMO. Pretty average away from home, the second half against Arsenal aside. If Redknapp got the England job, I'd emigrate. Fortunately, it won't ever come to that as they won't give him the job in a month of Sundays. An England manager who's popular with the press? It just wouldn't work, which would mean the press might turn against him and do a little bit of digging...

I don't think Cross Country accept Group Saver tickets... have you tried looking at going via London?

Safe standing embraces exactly the same policy, all tickets issued are for a specific standing spot. And of course, it's easy enough, and entirely legal, for someone to go to a club's ticket office and buy a ticket for a game without handing over their name and address, so the identification "issue" would be no different. -

Poll added -
Wasn't he sentenced to community service? It all makes sense now...

Fluked a refund on the train as one of the parts of the journey was cancelled due to the weather, so £59 wasn't wasted
 -
I was under the impression that the burden of proof was on the prosecution to prove guilt, not the other way around.
 -
Sorry, not been around much lately as I've had a big project delivery at work. Prediction League should now be updated.
 -
Surprised they managed to get that much for him, to be honest. He's scored a few this season, but before this season he'd scored one league goal (which was actually an own goal incorrectly credited to him!) in 16 starts and 36 sub appearances
 -
From less than half a season, and only playing two thirds of most games, getting substituted on 63 minutes, much to my annoyance

I think it centres around the well-publicised legal disputes between Gaydamak (Snr) and Chainrai/Kushnir in the past. They became interested because they were still owed money by Gaydamak and saw that the club was listed among his assets in an Israeli newspaper. It was obvious that he wouldn't sell the club to them, so they made up some non-existent Arab to effectively "flip" the club, but they had to string it out for a bit longer to make it seem credible ().

Want to write for SaintsWeb? Come right this way...
stevegrant replied to stevegrant's topic in The Saints
I will be responding to all applicants over the next day or two. Thanks to everyone who has applied. -
Up and back on the day from Kings Cross, £59 return. Not completely hideous.
 -
As you may have noticed, the news section of SaintsWeb has been restored in terms of content and enhanced with two new writers in recent weeks. I'm still on the lookout for a few more, though, to add a bit of variety to the editorial. As a result, I'm looking for three or four additional writers. Basic requirements are that: a) you can construct sentences and write coherent articles; b) you have a decent grasp of good journalistic practices (particularly related to ethics and law); c) you are reliable. I guess this role would be ideal for journalism students looking to get a bit of experience and add some "real-world" work to their portfolio. At this stage, this is an unpaid role. Applications should be sent either via PM to me, or via email to applications@saintsweb.co.uk Oh, and serious applications only, please.

Completely unrealistic... Owen Hargreaves still playing in 3 years' time
 -
Considering some of the train wrecks we get normally, I'm generally delighted when we've got a demoted Premier League ref!
 -
It baffles me why people continue to use thetrainline.com - they offer exactly the same routes and fares as the operators themselves, but they whack on handling fees at the end as well. I usually book mine through Virgin Trains, although it's often worth checking the operator of the train you're travelling on to see if the fare is slightly different. One leg of the return trip from Carlisle this week is using TransPennine Express rather than Virgin, and the same fare was about £3 cheaper than Virgin through their site.
 -
He has a point, but referees are already demoted to the Football League after bad performances.
 -
The tube (and DLR) will be running on the 26th, and all London buses will be running a Sunday service.
 -
I'd prefer to go back to stripes. Firstly, this one was to represent a special commemorative occasion, and secondly we'd have to change "Come on you Reds" permanently, which is probably beyond a lot of our fans
