One game even I'm too young to remember was a 2-1 win at Anfield in the League Cup in 1960, got a few photos of my Dad and a few uncles outside the ground with their Saints scarves around their necks. Liverpool were actually in Division 2 at the time and we beat them them twice in the league as well. Slightly off the theme but following the LC win in Liverpool we than faced Leeds at the Dell. It was an amazing game, the floodlights failed delaying the game for about half an hour and soon after the game restarted Derek Reeves gave us the lead. Shortly afterwards there was another floodlight failure but not before Cliff Huxford took over from the injured Reynolds in goal ( NO subs in those days!). Match resumes, Reeves scores 3 more to make it 4-0 only for Leeds to pull it back to 4-4. Then with 30 secs left Reeves hit the winner, that was a game I'd wished I'd seen !!

That was the game I was going to mention, Shankly called us "Ale House footballers. " Sore loser !! Not sure if this one is mentioned but we beat Liverpool 1-0 in 1967, our 2nd season in Div 1. Our team was : Forsyth Webb Hollywood Fisher Gabriel Walker Paine Chivers Davies Melia Sydenham Not a bad team at all, Chivers scored the only goal in his last season at Saints before leaving for Spurs. Luckily ( and I believe the reason he was allowed to leave) we had a certain young Michael Channon waiting in the wings ! Must have been 19 or 20 at the time but proved of course to be another gem introduced by Ted Bates. I hope he's looking down today and smiling

This whole day is almost like a daydream, I'm wondering if I've been in front of my PC so much I've lost touch with reality ! Great to hear that Oldnow is going to speak to Matty at least, I would have thought he'd be ideal in some sort of ambassadorial role. I liked the quote from Andy Oldnow: "Matt's fantastic. He's been brilliant and nothing but first-class in terms of his engagement with me. " Hear hear to that.

Well thank heavens for that !

Rarely can a discussion about a broken mug have reached 50 posts!!

Every Saints mug I've ever had I have broken so I'm not the one to give advice really but I will and say buy a new one you cheap skate (oops sorry to swear!)

Fair point well made, it's easy enough to criticise or make a point without having to resort to foul language though in fairness UAE Saint you are by no means the worst offender. Personally I think it is time to get really tough on those who use foul language, though I'm too old to be offended or shocked I'm still not happy reading posts littered with "swear" words in whatever guise and too right that children use this board and it really is an appalling example to set. Anyway, end of rant. I'm still too euphoric to get really upset

As has been said before how many other ex Saints players did anything ? No need to reply as it is clearly a rhetorical question. His interview on SSN was very good though precisely what I would expect from MLT. Having watched Saints for 46 years and seen too many players who cared not a jot for the club or its fans I think it's pretty disgraceful to criticise someone who did care, still cares and who tried. Maybe his judgement was questionable but if anyone were to question his motives then I'd seriously wonder if they had some sort of agenda. The guy possibly made an error of judgement at the very worst, I would be amazed if anyone old enough to post on this board has never done the same. Time to move on, if the Swiss want MLT in some role then so be it but if not I'm happy to enjoy watching him on Soccer Saturday and hope he gets to cover a few Saints game though it is doubtful. Let us just be happy, as Le Tiss clearly is, we have come up trumps and we can look forward to a bright future. So please just leave it be.

I think he is way beyond reason, don't think he'll last long on here TBH
-
Yes, I think you should
-
Indeed, it has been sadly missing in recent years, as if the fans did not matter. I sense that will all change now !

Surely one for the archives PS That's the only smiley I am going to be using for the foreseeable future

So if you had gone into work for an hour 92 days ago you might have spared us all this

Agreed, I said elsewhere Wotte deserves to be part of our future. Has conducted himself very well and I'd say he has shown he believes in this club which is worth a lot in this day and age.
