  1. I would like to see the Earths orbit rearranged so that the Chapel stand enjoyed the benefit of the sunshine on cold matchdays . Also free season tickets for Saintsweb members with post counts over 2300 or so .
  2. There are two basic types of Center Back , those who relay more on pace or body strength to win the ball , or those who use their innate intelligence to read the play and 'head off' dangerous situations before they happen almost . Players such as Chris Perry or Claus Lundekvam for instance fall into the latter category , and I must say that is the type of defender I personally admire the most . Farewell Chris and thanks for your service to this club , the only thing I regret about your time here is that we didn't quite get to see you in your prime .
  3. As a republican on a point of principle I would refuse to take the day off . **WARNING THE ABOVE POST MY CONTAIN LIES**
  4. The point is (as Nigel Pearson's Leicester City showed last season) that this impoverished division can (and frequently is) dominated by one or two really well organised and competently managed teams . It is entirely possible for such teams to almost literally sweep all before them . Millwall , Swindon ..etc are not formidable football powerhouses by any means - they've just managed to rise above the mediocre 3rd division standard much more consistently than we have . That is the reason the continuance Alan Pardew's reign has been called into question , and although I think AP has done enough to stay in the job , the very fact that the question is being asked (it would seem) fails to outrage me quite as much as it does most others on here in all honesty .
  5. In this instance doing nothing is by far the best course of action . I like to feel that the somewhat 'unenthusiastic' reception many of us on here gave this plan helped (along with Police concerns) to kill it . You are allowed to sing and shout (within reason) in any stand at St Marys - there's no need to be shy .
  6. Rubbish . A draw against Liverpool or Aston Villa is an infinitely better result than a victory against Southend or Yeovil . Those who are satisfied with yet more 3rd Division mediocrity not only display a chronic lack of ambition , but also ignore the history of this great club . This club should be playing its football in the top divisions of English football - anything else is failure .
  7. I seem to remember a similar percentage voted for Nigel Pearson to stay as manager two years ago - and look how much notice 'they' took of us then . While we will have our say , it's as plain as the nose on your face that the only people who's views really count in this are Nicola Cortese and Markus Leibherr . That's the trouble with this voting business - everybody might be born equal , but some of us are more equal than others .
  8. I'd be surprised if AP goes but experience has shown that the only truly predictable aspect of our great game is its very unpredictability . Reading the signs something does seem to be 'up' as they say , and if Alan Pardew pays the ultimate price for our failure to achieve promotion this season then I'm quite sure a top quality replacement will be signed up before very long . If a football club manager finds himself in conflict with his Chairman and/or Owner then let's face it , there's only going to be one winner .
  9. So we are asked to believe that there are large artificial structures built on the surface of the moon (by Space Aliens presumably) that have inexplicably escaped humanity's notice before , and that the US industrial/military complex are now conspiring to conceal this information from us for some unknown reason ? The body of evidence for this absurd proposition being nothing more substantial than a few blurred sections on some digital images of the Lunar surface . Just use your intelligence and think just how ridicules that is I have not the slightest doubt that there will be some dull technical explanation for the 'blurs' (or 'obfuscations' as this nonsense has it) - a fault with the experimental cameras employed or some telemetry problem with the images being infinitely more likely than this pile of horsesh1t I would suggest . If your really wanted to hide something as significant as this (why?) it would be extremely easy to manipulate the images in a much more effective and undetectable way , or simply not publish them at all . I'm reminded of that (long discredited) theory that the Apollo landings on the Moon never actually happened , and that it was all some vast conspiracy by NASA to fool the public . Buzz Aldrin said that if anyone dared to say that to his face he'd punch them in the mouth - I'm starting to know how he felt . PS - if you really are interested in the truth , then the magnificent results of the 'Clementine' mission are freely available to the public , and this will prove a rather more reliable guide : http://www.cmf.nrl.navy.mil/clementine/
  10. Wayne Thomas shooting from a near impossible position , and the look a sheer disbelief from the entire Chapel when it went in . I was there
  11. I wasn't trying to rewrite history , all I'm saying is that if the timing had been different and NP had received the same sort of opportunity that AP has then we might well have done rather better than we have in my opinion . Not something that I could ever prove of course , just a honest reflection on how this fan happens to feel about it .
  12. It seems to me if the owner of a football club and his Chairman give their manager a lot of money to spend on transfers and wages , then it's perfectly reasonable that they are entitled to demand a certain level of performance to show for that investment . This is the 'flip side' of that particular coin , and while we will all (doubtless) have our say about it SFC really is their club and their business in the final analysis - as fans are just 'along for the ride' as they say . People keep telling me that stability and patience are the keys to long term success , and while it's fair to say I'm not 100% convinced that is necessarily entirely true , on balance I'd still like to see Alan Pardew given the time to show what he can do next season - he deserves the chance . I only wish Nigel Pearson had been shown that same consideration , for the more I see of the man , the more I am convinced that his departure was a minor tragedy for this football club .
  13. Both are talented young players who could play at a higher level in all probability , the difference is we can play without Lallana and still be a pretty effective team - you can't really say the same about SFC without Morgan Schneiderlin . You might say it just because Wotton (obviously) or Gillett (possibly) are inadequate but there's more to it than that . It continues to surprise me how many on here haven't yet noticed just how important and influential player Schneiderlin is rapidly becoming , it remains my view that it's this young Frenchman who really makes us 'tick' as a team and as a result he gets my vote . It's an easy choice to vote for a prolific and popular striker such as Ricky Lambert as your player of the season and I fully understand the reasons why the majority will go down that route - but sometimes you just have to 'look closer' as they say . I understand it was that old friend and servant of the club Jacques Prost who was behind Schneiderlin's move here - now there's a man who really knows a thing or two about football and footballers .
  14. Differcult question as there are many good options this season - Morgan Schneiderlin me thinks .
  15. Unless I've missed it we have heard nothing more regarding that silly plan to move the away fan section . If the club were really going to do it (for God's sake don't Mr Cortese) they would surely have to publish their detailed proposals before asking fans to renew season tickets .
  16. I don't do Tuesday evenings but Bank Holiday Monday afternoons are OK , but they're not quite as good as Sundays at Wembley obviously , just don't get be started on the subject of football on Fridays though . Apart from that I'm free and easy - except next Thursday when I've got a dental appointment .
  17. I think some on here are allowing their betting slips to do their thinking . The record shows that even if we ignore the inconvenient fact of the points deduction we've still never really been good (or consistent) enough to deserve a top 6 place this season . To state this obvious truth is not to display some treachery to the club or disloyalty to the team , neither (I can assure you) is it some coded call for Alan Pardew's instant dismissal - it's just a simple statement of fact . It may not quite be all over in the statistical sense , but this big girl has definitely been preparing for quite a while now for her end of season performance :
  18. It was just the same at AFC Bournemouth preseason , you just have to accept that there is a degree of jealously from the fans of the minor south coast clubs against SFC . By the way , I really am 'laughing out loud' at the Bmth fans who were singing "Oh when the Saints go Johnston Paint" all those months ago .
  19. Well if you were still dreaming of a play-off place then 2 points dropped has to be a extremely bad result surely ? If on the other hand you consider our real chances to have died a quite death many weeks ago (my point of view as it happens) then our remaining league fixtures are of very little importance anyway . Either way it can only be a terrible or a indifferent result I'd say - to describe a solitary point gained against Brighton & Hove Albion as a 'good result' for this club is to employ a definition of 'good' that I don't really recognize . That may not be the 'end of' the discussion , but it's certainly all I've got to say on the subject .
  20. Not a funny comment but the bloke who was enthusiastically 'mooning' every passing Saints bus on the M40 yesterday did enliven a otherwise tedious journey back ..... oh and a special mention goes to 'Ricky's Mum' as well - what a splendid women you undoubtedly are
  21. If you are now in a weak reception area I suggest you try fitting a signal booster or better still one of those heavy duty digital ariel's you see all over the place these days . It seems rather odd that only the BBC is effected however , perhaps the problem is in your freeview box itself .
  22. Their level of support (home and away it would seem) is an embarrassment to the game - made all the worse by a overlarge stadium . So much of what it takes to become a proper football club is bound up in local history and tradition , qualities you just can't buy off the shelf as the MK Don's prove . They're 20 years away from becoming a decent club I'd say .
  23. I'd have thought 27 years of continuous top flight football and thus by definition being one of the 20 or so most prominent clubs in English football was a pretty fair definition of success for this club . We achieved that in the (quite recent) past and I see no good reason why we should not aim for that again . There are 92 professional football clubs in the so-called league 'pyramid' - it remains my opinion that any of those 92 clubs that finish the season still in the top flight can be considered as some kind of footballing success . Your refusal to recognize this simple truth is mystifying to this fan - I'll be charitable and conclude you are being deliberately obtuse . I'm far from sure what you actually want for the club but it would appear you are one of the many on here who limit their ambition to seeing SFC beat the impoverished 3rd Division 'small fry' on a regular basis and are perfectly happy with that depressingly modest level of achievement - I suppose this point of view could be summarised as the 'flat track bully' argument . I reject that point of view in its entirety. Markus Liebherr bought this club (at great expense) with the stated aim of returning it to the top flight of English football within 5 years . Mr Liebherr and Nicola Cortese obviously possess the vision to see this club becoming something better than what it is now - 'each to his own' of course but to be perfectly frank I prefer their vision to yours .
  24. I could hardly disagree more - the top EPL clubs (Chelsea excluded perhaps) are where they are precisely because historically they have refused to accept mediocrity in all it's many forms . You seem to have missed the crucial difference between actually being the best (arguably only one club can be that at any point in time) and the principle of constantly striving to be the best . I see no good reason why we shouldn't expect (not merely desire) that our club should one day become a successful Premier League club again - I'm pretty sure Nicola Cortese and Markus Liebherr do expect exactly that . As for the specific question of criticising Alan Pardew , my view is that I both want and expect him to lead us into the next season - I also both want and expect his expensive team to perform much better next season than it has for much of this - and if it doesn't then not only will he certainly be on the receiving end of sustained criticism - he'll very probably deserve it .
