  1. I am fairly certain that Lawrence and Kitson were signed by Lambitt when Chinrai was last in charge of the club, though that doesn't stop Chinrai pointing the finger at them again, rather that those who gave them the contract in the first place. Oh the irony!
  2. I think Morgan could flourisj alongside another Defensive midfield player, to give hom more freedom to move forward and also to stop the opposition wife men cutting inside and shooting. He has pretty much all the technique of Schweinsteiger, he just needs a bit more time to develop. Cork on the other hand is a typical english cm, who runs around a lot, often bewcause he is in the wrong position to start with. For the Norris goal, he was chasing the ball on the half way line, when he should have been 5 yards in front of Fonte. He is just like Henderson of Liverpool but with a worse shot.
  3. As another thread on here has turned into another debate on the merits of Guly, it got me thinking about the players over the years that some fans love to hate. In the 80's, 3 of us moved our Season Tickets from the LoverWest to the Lower East Terrace, as we were fed up with the constant abuse hurled at Paul Rideout. Rideout was harranged for not being as fast as Rod Wallace, not as skillful as Le Tiss and not scoring as many goals as Shearer. I would have liked to have been brave enough to point out that a player with those attributes would be worth more than Van Basten . Instead we moved to somewher more positive. Rideout got his revenge years later at Tranmere. What are other posters memories of the boo boy victims ? I can remember Bally getting some stick ( from me too ), and also Sideways Jim Magilton. Maybe we can come up with a boo boy's eleven ?
  4. I voted, but I found it hard to pick the number of choices for CB, CM and CF. Jageilka, Cahil and Lescott are good. Rio is past it, Terry is to busy trying to look hard and King is a fitness gamble. Are there really no other english centre halfs ? Barry and Parker are good, but Gerrard and Lampard are past it. Up front Rooney and Crouch are the only ones in any kind of form ( SRL and Holt aside). The wingers do offer some options. First Defender, goal kick, goalies hands or occasionally find one of there own players. Looking at that lot, it's ashame Harry didn't get the job, as it would be fun to see the press go for him when they are on the early flight home. Its a good job I'm not that patriotic, as I would be in for a disappointing summer.
  5. If you read the whole interview, he states that we are 2 years ahead of schedule, so we will have to plug the gaps with signings. I would expect a lot of younsters to go out on loan, although we will be in a proper reserve league which might boost development. In two years time JWP,Sinclair, Chambers, Corby-Moore , Stephens and Shaw might well have developed into first team regulars.
  6. Chinrai and CSI ( who owe 70% of their debt to Chinrai ) are the two biggest creditors ( 49%). So Chinrai will get about 25/58th of any CVA payments. If I were in his shoes, I would make the CVA pay anything left out of the Parachute Payments after football creditors have been paid. TB estimated this at £5 Mill, so Chinrai could get nearly 2.5 Mill. Add in to this any transfer fees received ( Ward, Pearce, Halford, Huslekep ..... thats about it ) and there could be a few hundred thousand pounds extra. Chinrai only has to beat the Trust's bid to buy the club, so he could probably get it for £2 Million. If he puts this money into the CVA, he will get nearly half of it back. So in two years time, BC could have a small profit on his investment, probably secure whatever money he puts in against the Stadium or make it equity , and be ready to sell it all on to the next chancer. If he lets the club get liquidated, all he will get is a share of the proceeds of the sale of FP and the office equipment. I must point out that this is my opinion, and I am a very honest person, so someone with a bit more guile than myself could probably extract a lot more money from the club while the FL are looking the other way.
  7. If Bristol City win at Burnley and the Skates lose at Forest, the gap will be 11 points. So they could escape punishment again .
  8. Does anyone know of any bars in Nantes that show Sky Sports ? I am up there for a Stephen Malkmus gig on Saturday. Could be a Guitar Hero/Promotion double header. Old Sarum, if you read this, can you text me the scores ? Don't think I will be able to wait until Sunday to watch it.
  9. I'm in Nantes for this, for a Stephem Malkmus gig. Will sky plus it, but does anyone know a pub in Nantes with sky sports?
  10. I can't undestand why pace is rated so much more than delivery for wide players in England. Wingers like Lennon run very quickly, get into space and then fire aimless percentage balls across the box, in the hope that someone gets on the end of it. Players like John Robertson, Steve Guppy or even MLT when he was younger didn't need to get 5 yards past someone to get a cross in, and when they did it usually ended up with one of their own players. De Ridder falls in betwen both camps, doesn't fly past his man and hits percentage balls when he does. He is a bad decision maker who often slows it down rather than just knock it forward and run with it. Needs a lot of work to unlock his ability in the close season.
  11. I would like to know ( Clapham ? ) who decides how Baker Tilley decide to vote if CVA2 is put forward ? Do they have a vote of all the unpaid creditors of CVA1 ? If so HRMC have almost half of the vote on that ( 7/16th ) .
  12. Don't forget that parachute payments count as turnover, so they can beat the 65% rule on wages, even though most of the PP's are already owed to football creditors. More opportunities for quality signings !
  13. 9 points adrift now. Shame
  14. I think Chaplow will be on the bench, to give us CM cover. Probably best to start with whoever gives Richardson best cover. Guly didn't yesterday and SDR gave te ball away in dangerous positions. Not sure Puncheon or Falque would be any better defensively. It wouldn't be so much of a problem if we had a proper Defensive Midfield player, like the one Brum have on loan from St Etiene. Cork and Hammond are just bulk standard English midfielders, run about a bit, pass a bit, tackle a bit. Morgan is more of a creator, we need a more destructive option. A Makellelee/Mascherano type of player would have been on top of Norris at the end yesterday, and would cope better with players cutting inside the full backs.
  15. Guttting to let Norris have that late shot. However, we are currently still top, and 11 pints from 5 games should see us up. We have already booked a play off spot. Although injuries are mounting, and although form/on TV/Friday 13th all points to a slip up against Reading, Reading have two other difficult away games, and West Ham have two tricky home games coming up. Any draws by West Ham take 2 points off the 11 point target. Fingers crossed for Monday.
  16. Feed went down for the last 10 minutes. Don't know about offside and wonder who should have closed down Norris. Blue line under it, and on to Palace. Glad people are saying Lambert isn't fit. Slagging of Sharpe worked dividends last week.
  17. I just cancelled the contract I took out on Adam Blackmore ( Don't tempt fate next time commentator )
  18. According to the News, only 12,100 tickets have been sold so far for the crucial 6 pointer against Bristol City including 2,500 away fans. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/pompey-past/pompey-price-cut-for-crucial-city-clash-1-3616689 Bestest fans ever .
  19. On a side note, does anyone think we would be already promoted if Alex OC had stayed another year ? No disrespect to Chappers/SDR and Guly, but he if he can do AC Milans left back he could tie Championship defenders in knots.
  20. On the admin/financial mismanagement front, one answer might be that if a club owed money to another after the transfer of a player, then that player cannot play until the debt is paid. Eg if the Skates were 100K behind in their payments for Halford, then he cannot play until they cough up. This would punish clubs if they went bust at any time of the season. Imagine going bust in October, and all of your new signings are sat in the stand.
  21. Clerks - Kevin Smith Discovered it the night England lost 1.0 to Italy and Matt got subbed. Cheered me right up. Or if you are having some sort of mid life crisis - Grosse Point Blank
  22. Trevor Birch said that the club is losing £8M a year at the moment. 8/12 = 750K per month. 2 games per month at £25 a ticket ( being generous ) = > 750K / 25 = 30,000 divide by 2 matches equals 15,000 extra punters per home game needed to break even. If we accept the original break even figure of 14,000 for home games, this means that they need crowds of 29,000 in a 21K stadium just to make ends meet. Clearly this is all the fault of HRMC/FA/PL/FL .....
  23. Many reasons. 1 - I have no respect for the players. ( see my OP) 2 - Never been overly patriotic anyway 3 - Don't rate HR as a coach 4 - Don't rate HR as a human being 5 - Don't like the way the UK media deify HR 6 - Couldn't put up with HR moaning that he can't pick Bale and Modric for England and so is down to the bare bones .... Why France or Spain ? France, cos I live here. Spain, because the football is so sexy, it should be rated 18.
  24. It's not just the Redknap case, there have been so many court case in the last few years that it now seem that the Jury trial system is redundant. Why don't they just get rid of the jury, ignore the evidence and instead just compare the billable rates of the Defence and Prosecution QC's. Whoever charges more is the winner. Back to HR now, and if he gets the England job, I will switch to watching France or Spain. As it is, I already feel so disconnected from it that I watch it just to see the few players that are still grounded ( Jagleika, Cahill, Parker, Milner, Hart), the rest of them are so detached from reality that they think they are the best in the world, just because they are paid more than everyone else.
  25. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/campaigns/passion-for-portsmouth/news/pressure_mounts_for_administrator_to_meet_worried_pompey_fans_1_3464786 Latest from the News. Fans demanding a meeting with AA, perhaps for autographs. It also goes on to say that Cala wan'ts to buy the Debebture on the Skates from Portpin, so he can take over the club without going throught the FPP test. The comedy just goes on and on.
