  1. Morgan is the top scorer in that team! Pelle needs to play , if we want to score, and a goal would do him the world of good. Right back is a problem, as we have no wing-back in the squad other than Clyne. If Yoshida is available, I would play him there. It doesn't matter if he is tired as he will be away with Japan for a month after that.
  2. Could easily of been 8 0 . Pelle hit the post twice and had one cleared off the line and JWP should have had a hat-trick. We got lucky with Gardos for the yellow card but we should have been 4 nil up by them. Can someone start a thread slagging of JWP cause it worked well for Mane.
  3. That's the one. Although we did still have Le Tiss, Egil and Berkowitz up front, not Mane and Long .........
  4. I know that it has been shown recently that our squad is too small, but even Chelsea or City would struggle with that many injured and suspended! Could be our youngest bench since Wotte was in charge. I'm just hoping for a miracle, like when we played the Boro team that had Ravanelli and Juhinnio et all with Neil Maddison filling in at Centre Halve. Some of the kids are really going to have to step up for this one.
  5. We don't seem to have a deputy for Clyne coming through the u21 team and the same goes for Morgan ( Reed and Hesketh played there in the last u21 game). January would be a god time to fill these gaps with some up and coming players that fit the "Southampton Way" . George Thorne at Derby would have been my choice for midfield, but he has the same injury as JayRod.
  6. All three goals were so unlike the way we had been defending this season. No DM shielding the back four for the first, allowing Yaya time to shoot. Davis giving the ball away for the 2nd and then jogging back, you can see him spot Lampard way too late and start to run toward him. For the 3rd no-one picked up the runner. City hounded us well, particularly Tadic, but we had ridden the storm before the errors cost us. Just hope Cork is ok for Wednesday. 3 out of six midfield injured is stretching us.
  7. It was nice to see the Dutch fans treated so well. Also, it was interesting to see the looks on the Sunderland players faces when they arrived and saw the murals. The giant Pelle picture ( still not as big as the real thing) scared the hell out of them.
  8. Brilliant performance from everyone. Even if the ref had given a penalty for Forster, it could not have been a red, despite how the monkey headed one will try and spin it, as the ball was almost out for a goal kick by the time they collided. Tadic and Pelle are incredible players, but my conspiracy theory head says that Pelle won't get his hat-trick ( like Oestenstaad against Man U) even though the ball was going in on it's own before the comedy clearance.
  9. The PL missed some great PR with the new TV deal. They had a great opportunity to say to the clubs "Here is a shed load of extra TV money, on the condition that you freeze tickets prices for a few years". The clubs would hardly notice the difference, with all the container loads of cash coming in from Asian TV. I'm off to see Bordeaux play Caen on Sunday. As it is on TV Bordeaux were offering buy one get one free, so it is €14.00 for the pair of us to sit behind a goal . That's £5.50 each, which will buy me 15 minutes worth of Saints V Everton in December. I know the standard may not be as high as the PL but it is not 6 times better.
  10. I'm off to see Bordeaux v Caen next week. Because it is on the TV, it's buy one get one free. €14 for the two of us to sit behind the goal. I know that the standard is not as high as the PL, but compare that to a WBA fan paying £42 last week for a restricted view seat at Anfieid, where he could only see one of the goals. The PL has a lot of things to sort out before they start moving fixtures to Asia and the US.
  11. Hughes didn't claim it 'cause he didn't give a toss. The 2nd (after Speedie) disinterested mercenary to sign for Saints. I used to play Fifa Manager 2000 over and over, just so I could sell the barsteward.
  12. Not sure how the last man can stay on when Kaboul brought many down. Of it's a foul then it has to be a red. Mane should have scored, but Spurs stopped us in midfield today.
  13. Wonder if we might switch to a diamond midfield for this one, as is one od Poch's Achilles Heals ? I know we haven't tried it for a while, but Ron is full of surprises.
  14. http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/sep/19/golden-goal-matt-le-tissier-southampton-newcastle Fantastic in depth analysis about why he did what he did at each stage, plus a change to see the video of the goal itself. Reading it takes me back to being freezing cold under the East stand, being totally dejected as Paul Moody warmed up on the opposite touchline.
  15. Comfortable all afternoon. Great strike by Morgan and total football all round. finishing the game with 3 centre halves and 4 central midfielders. All the Muppets booing Pelle at the WBA game, you know nothing about football.
  16. Thanks for putting this up, I had forgotten to donate. Is it easy for any of you twitter users to get this trending ??
  17. I've given up with the England team. Roy's statement that fans need to get used to the squad being full of bench warmers for the big 6 is madness. Will AL and Ricky become better players by sitting in the stands watching Ballotelli and Couthino every week? There needs to be a minimum percentage of game time that players have to reach before they are selected, for the Full team and for the U21's as well. The U21's is full of Spurs and United players that do well to get of the bench in a league cup match. Some Journo's have been saying that the Squad should evolve from the U21's but many of these players are not first team players for there clubs by the time they turn 22. You could put out an England team excluding the big 6 players that would give last nights team a run for their money. Of the top of my head Forster Clyne Davies Bertrand Cork Huddlestone Shelvey Dyer JRod Routelidge Give that a go next time Roy.
  18. I think Hull have done well out of us. If he gets a run in the side Gaston could contribute as many goals for Hull ( including assists) as Long does for us. But at least Long will get better stats in the more crucial "running around a lot" category.
  19. Great performance all round. Can't remember a 2 half like that away from home. Everyone put in a shift but Morgan was superb.
  20. Cork , Davis and JWP don't have the ability to switch play like Morgan. All of them are good at moving it 10 to 20 yards but the time it takes to make 2 20 yards passes gives defences much more time to regroup. Sunderland away in the cup was a good illustration of how the tempo drops when Morgan isn't playing. Added to that Morgan has scored at least as many goals as all three of them put together over the past two seasons. And Morgan is a much better tackler. George Thorne at WBA( Derby on loan last year) is a much better Morgan replacement than anyone we have on our books at the moment.
  21. We need a right footed Tadic. JWP/Davis and Cork are not wide men.
  22. He does sort of have a point though. Replace Steve Davis with Gareth Bale and you would add another 15 goals to thee side, plus more assists. Walcott for Osvaldo and Ox on the bench. Boruc Clyne Fonte Lovren Shaw Schniederlin Wanyama Bale Llallana Rodriguez Lambert Subs Davies, Chambers, Cork, Ox , Walcott, Davis Plus JWP, Yoshida Ramirez Would have been good enough to finish above Spurs and Manu last year, perhaps even higher.
  23. Now Bertrand has signed, it looks like left back is covered, so maybe we are looking at a CB/RB instead ? The only one I can think of is Micah Richards. Any others that you can think of ?
  24. Mark Hughes and David Speedie up front.
  25. That's just 4 old twitter rumours wrapped up together.
