  1. Went to the Palace vs Newcastle game earlier in the season - one of the lowest quality Premier League matches you're ever likely to witness. On the basis of that, would say we will beat Palace, but they're a really funny team, one week can be hopeless, the next week ripping teams apart (always on the break). They're poor in defence and the midfield is quite average, but dangerous in attack with the pace and skill of Townsend and Zaha always a threat. We havent done particularly well against the other lower half teams this season, but would like to think we'd get two to three wins from the 4 games (excluding Arsenal).
  2. I'd like to see him given a go. Hopefully he can take his opportunity if one arises. If we sell him, I hope it's because we have someone else on the way in - cant rely on just Ings and Obafemi (already both been injured a couple of times), Austin (pretty poor fitness record) and Long (awful goalscoring record)!
  3. With Long being useless, Gabbi off, Ings and Obefemi injured, I would've thought Gallagher would get an opportunity (unless we're signing someone)? Is he in the named squad, or count as a young player still?
  4. Thought he looked good and pretty composed, certainly more composed and confident than most of the other youngsters to have played this season.
  5. As in Mario Gotze who scored the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup?! Ralph is probably interested, but I highly doubt Gotze is interested in coming to us!
  6. Some of the comments on here are as if we had Ali Dia playing for us again! Yes, Moi hasnt been great at all so far, but there were a couple of flashes against an excellent City side which I thought looked a bit promising and on another day could've come off. The first time pass over the top to Austin (who should've scored), and a couple of runs where he quickly got closed down made me think he might have something, and is probably just lacking a bit of confidence, in a struggling team. We were struggling to get the ball out of our half, let alone get the ball to him and Austin most of the match, so difficult to read too much into that match / performance. He's not super skillful like a Tadic or Boufal, but I'm just looking forward to seeing what he might be able to do with a little more time in a more confident, fitter, team. Personally I hope the next game he plays he has an absolute storming match!
  7. Would be very happy with both of those Ins, but quite unhappy if we sold McCarthy. Gunn may be promising, but completely unproven at this level (and not even first choice for u21s anymore)
  8. Genius! This can go along with 'Southampton in Europa' as my favourite cr*p Saints song
  9. Yep - pretty sure there were a lot of people singing his praises after that game - I think he's just the current boo boy and people have short memories these days.
  10. Vestegaard had a bit of a stormer on his debut against a more physical Burnley side.
  11. This is the best 4, although Bednarek also a bit unlucky. Hoedt and Vestegaard at their best are better than the other centre backs, just completely void of confidence / have a habit of doing something silly, which Yoshida and Stephens have also done this season!
  12. Yep, was thinking this. Maximum effort and closing down (I assume they've done some research on the new boss), but expect half of them to be knackered by 60 mins. Still not expecting much but you never know, might be the lift the players need!
  13. That Arsenal team is still better than what a lot of premier league teams come up against in the cup. Our cup run was seriously impressive.
  14. Is this on TV?
  15. Redmond's been our best player in probably a quarter of this seasons games. Doesn't mean he's been amazing, but I think him and PEH (and possibly Lemina when he looks like he can be bothered) have been our best players. Shame Ings has tailed off so much. Just seems to be the training which must be shocking as I agree, most of the players are capable of more.
  16. How on earth would we not have any money? Just how much are we paying the staff behind the scenes? Every other team (even those without a billionaire owner) have cash so why wouldn't we after seasons of massive transfer profits and all the TV money? I know we have given silly big contract extensions to players like Forster, Stephens and a host of the other young guns from a few years ago, but surely that doesnt mean we are worse off than clubs like Huddersfield, Bournemouth, Cardiff?
  17. Come on 'down to the bare bones' but looking forward to whichever of Targett, Austin, Armstrong, Ely, Romeu and JWP start actually show the boss what we've been missing and why they deserve more of a role. Please can we get Vestegaard back in against Mitrovic?
  18. I thought when Hughes came in a few players said that he'd upped the training?! Were they just rocking up for a quick game of 5 a side before?
  19. Well, I guess it goes on the players who have played most games, but extremely harsh of them to put Ings in whilst the likes of Jordan Ayew have escaped!
  20. I cant believe we've gone into another season with Long as one of our main attacking options! Austin at least does score occasionally, but I'd agree, he's lucky to still be here having done next to nothing for a year or so. I'm sure 75% of Championship clubs would take him though. Davis the same really - surely Rangers for him, or didnt he start at Aston Villa? All three are clogging up space and realistically never going to play too much (if we have the right manager that is). We've only got a 'deep roster' as we have so many average players clogging it up. Get rid of those 3, along with Forster and get in one high quality main target man or super pacey winger / creative player and I think we'll look much better.
  21. LOL We definitely live in a 'I'll believe it when I see it' situation when it comes to Saints. Would be surprised if Mitchell wanted to come back, but he obviously had a good record for us so would welcome it.
  22. I hope so. It really is a joke, and pathetic for the guy to even entertain the idea. As others have rightly said, he'd leave a much better legacy if he could ask clubs who may want to get involved to donate to local grassroots and community football schemes.
  23. We've missed a trick there. Would've loved to have someone so widely respected as Ranieri with us (much like when Koeman was our manager) - pretty sure he would've commanded the respect from the players straight away and we'd see an up-turn in fortunes. Now the Fulham match has gotten much tougher and I'm guessing we'll another patchy performance and a late goal from the opposition!
  24. Yes, well would be interesting to see if Hughes actually was being told who to play (or not as the case may be) to see if he really is poor a judge of a player as some of his selections have shown. Fingers crossed for Yoshi, Vestergaard and Gabbiadini back in the team!
