  1. Yes £4m is too steep but has it not occurred to people that they are quoting that figure to discourage bids. We have done the same with AOC. Sauce for Geese and Ganders here.
  2. Relax - you know our track record - you'll hear about it when it happens.
  3. I think that this board is responsible for global warming
  4. A perfectly valid point but I suspect that such a list does not exist i.e. one in which a player has walked away because their agent was p1ssed off
  5. But I am not the one making assertions about how much power they have or haven't got. You seem to be suggesting that they are all powerful and what the player/ clubs wants is irrelevant.
  6. What is your personal experience to support this assertion? And besides, accusing people who disagree with you as being naive is a rather feeble debating tactic.
  7. As opposed to "its something negative about the club - it must be true". Personally, I couldn't care less if its true or not. If there is a potential deal on the table then they'll talk but they won't get NC to pay silly money. I see that as a good thing.
  8. Oh! I didn't realise we were still in League 1
  9. Why, for heaven's sake? The sum of knowledge increases which make it easier to deduce new things but I don't think for a second that we are actually anymore intelligent than the Ancient Egyptions - we merely have the accrual of knowledge that arose from the contribution highly intelligent people over generations. Newton was genius in his time and would be a genius now.
  10. Let's put emotions aside and apply cold hard reason. The FACTS are that the the number of candidates passing GCSE and A Level and the grades that they get have increased year on year for the last 15 or 20 years to the point that employers and univerities find the results unhelpful in selecting candidates for employment of admission. That is the fact. The REASONs for this are what are up for debate. The reasons could be any combination of the following: a) Kids are much brighter now than they were 20 or more years ago. If that were so then evolution has worked faster in the last 20 years than it has in the previous several million b) Kids work much harder today than they did 20 years ago. Personally I have not seen a shred of evidence to support that idea. They appear no better or no worse than we were at doing their homework c) Teachers are much better than they used to be. H'mmm not at all convinced by that. I am quite sure that they are no worse than they used to be but I am not convinced they are better. d) The standards accepted by examiner's are less that they once were. I know someone who marks exams and there is certainly an element of this in it but not enough to account for increase e) They are now measuring something different than they did 20 years ago. My money is mostly on e) but unfortunately, what they are measuring now does not seem to discriminate sufficiently. If everyone has an A what value is the A? If everyone has a degree what value has the degree? If 50% of young people get degrees then they are being fed the expectation that they will walk into Graduate jobs but, as they are currently discovering, the law of supply and demand works and there are simply not enough graduate jobs for them to walk into - nor is there ever likely to be. My own view is that, in light of the £9k a year, if I were a young person starting out I would seriously look at other ways of getting to where you want to go.
  11. I am surprised that we haven't had Brighton fans on here giving it large about their current position
  12. I think that he is a good kid and I wish him luck. If he really did have all those offers then his decision was clearly based on the chance to play and not necessarily the money so hats off to him for that. He'll be back to haunt us!
  13. I went to see these on Friday evening at the Anvil - Gretchen Peters, Suzy Boguss and Matraca Berg. An excellent evening but even if I had only heard Gretchen Peters sing this it would have been worth the money. You could have heard the proverbial pin drop http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbrV5q-dEx8
  14. Oi! Go and find your own means of transport. We are already on the bus and it is going our direction!
  15. You would have thought that in the 2000 guineas but he kept going although the others were starting to close towards the end. In spite of the fact that the others were closing on him today I was fairly confident that they wouldn't get to him. I think that he is a horse that needs to cruise at high speed rather than one that can be delivered late. 8 furlongs is his absolute limit though.
  16. That story is so dull it's bordering on genius. Is there a competition between Webmasters as to who can come up with the dullest summer story?
  17. Firstly do you know that this is true. If you don't then it renders the second half of the sentence meaningless. If you do know it is true then I would hazard a guess that collapsing the deal was NC's intention. Good business is only business that you want to conduct and that is concluded satisfactorily for both parties. Some of our fans still don't seem to have grasped that we don't need the money and we therefore hold the upper hand in negotiations. And yes - it may mean that potential buyers walk away. So what!
  18. I am a bit slow. This is the first time that I have realised that Turkish and Deppo are one and the same.
  19. I may be missing something here but what is the point of the question?
  20. I quite liked what I saw of him, and I agree, it would make sense to loan him out for a while rather than necessarily getting rid of him.
  21. So, to summarize, Cork is signing/ not signing and the club has a load of debt/ no debt and we have made 9 pages out of it - and I've just added to it
  22. What you are saying is that people are far too ready to believe newspaper reports - a triumph of hope over experience.
  23. Well that has certainly settled it!!!
  24. There are no certainties in this life (except death and taxes) but I think that AOC going on to fulfil his potential is close to being one of them. That is why the big clubs are so interested.
  25. If he is worth 12m to someone else then he is definitely worth more than that to us. Didn't people complain about Lowe when he sold a very good player and replaced him with several inferior players yet that is what we (members of this board) are proposing here. The premiership is worth more to us than £12m - so no - I don't think that it is great business
