  1. I admire your passion for supporting England and to some extent I envy it. Watching the devotion of fans of other nations has also often had me wishing I could feel the same level of pride towards my country. I'm a Saints fan of 30 years, not a 'modern day footie fan' but I simply can't get emotional about supporting England. This is due to (1) a succession of uninspiring national managers picking the same old players and (2) the fact that the squad is almost entirely comprised of players I do not admire and cannot bring myself to support. Hodgson picking players like Raheem Stirling and Jonjo Shelvey in recent squads has only strengthened this view. Having said that I hope Lambert goes and smashes the Scots apart and will hope he can trail-blaze a path for some other unfashionable types! (I won't hold my breath)
  2. Haven't planned to watch an England friendly for years (i.e. have caught the odd 20 mins here and there but only when I've had nothing better to do). Very much planning to watch this one, I've even purchased some beer.
  3. With 4 days to go and still no sign of a striker, seeing Vydra go to WBA this morning is the one that makes me most envious
  4. Yep, he's just become mine
  5. Same tweeter says: "Southampton are also looking and bringing Mattheiu Flamini back to England #AFC #SaintsFC" Looks like an idiot to me...
  6. Would a call-up for Lambert benefit Saints in any way? Maybe there's an argument that international exposure would make him a better player but at his age I'm not convinced by that. Does it not just increase the chances of him getting injured?
  7. From the middle of Somerset. Started supporting Saints in 1985 (aged 7) when a family friend gave me a match programme signed by Peter Shilton. When it came to selecting a university I opted for Southampton so I could get to more games and ended up living there for four years until work took me away. Manage to get to 4 or 5 games a season nowadays (but am no doubt branded as plastic/prawn sandwich by many as a result)
  8. *standing ovation*
  9. The OP is clearly talking about the "Lampard role" and as such is only using the name Lampard to make it obvious the type of role in the team to which he is referring. He has made it clear he is not comparing JRod with Lampard in terms of quality. There was no reason whatsoever to shoot the OP down
  10. I really hope this is true!
  11. What can I say? They just happened to be the two highest bidders!
  12. Best laid plans of mice and men mate. This may have been the aim in a perfect world. I wanted to spend yesterday evening naked in a hot tub with Scarlett Johansson and Olivia Wilde, but it looks as though that might have to wait until next week
  13. Sunderland have 5 games to our 3 too, so maybe it is linked in some part to both them & Palace them having managers who are prone to wacky antics. Sunderland were awful to watch for much of last season!
  14. Slow day in work so I've just totted up the number of televised games for each club. We really don't float broadcasters boats much: Chelsea 10 Liverpool 9 Man City 9 Man U 9 Arsenal 8 Spurs 8 Newcastle 7 Palace 5 Everton 5 Sunderland 5 Villa 4 Fulham 4 Norwich 4 Swansea 4 Wet Spam 4 Cardiff 3 Hull 3 SAINTS 3 Stoke 3 West Brom 3 Not necessarily a bad thing given our televised record!
  15. Bobby Moore
  16. Wow. Really?
  17. Feels like a defeat. We keep dominating games but coming away with less than the performance deserves. Trying to keep the faith that it will click into place. Reading form worrying. Thanks god for late Everton equaliser.
  18. Played regularly in a team that finished 8th and reached the cup final so I think 'very poor' is going a bit far
  19. Have you been smoking something?
  20. For me it's still really about this. Pochettino might well do an absolutely amazing job. However if he does and we finish top 10 or better next season will he leave if a big name side were to come knocking? I just feel that we would have eventually gone places under NA and that when we did, he'd have stayed loyal (like Moyes has to Everton). All speculation and 'what ifs' though. Time to turn the page.
  21. Quite like Mo-po
  22. Nice comments about NA from Moyes.
  23. Merson is only employed on that show to give brainless, illiterate louts somebody to relate to. The same sort of people who are convinced that Harry Redkanpp is some kindly, happy-go-lucky uncle figure.
