  1. Slightly weird but watching that video I was trying to imagine what it would have been like if Nigel and Ralph had been here at the same time. Conversations between those two would have been special ?
  2. yeah that helped but some how as a fan I felt more connected to the players and the club than I do now.
  3. Nasty though the whole Shaw thing is. Am I right in thinking Morgan is on the bench for Man U again. I'm not sure when he said he didn't want to be watching the CL on the telly anymore he meant he rather be watching it pitch side instead......
  4. Just finished watching the rest great times. Much as I still love watching saints there was something special about those three seasons in league one and champ that seems to be missing now.
  5. Big boys looking to fill the home grown quota with some else's academy players shocker
  6. Actually it would be kind of nice if this is our **** period followed by a really strong end to the season. Last couple of seasons we've started well and the end of the seasons have become a bit of an anti climax as we've faded. Wouldn't mind trying the other way out and finishing the season strong.
  7. More possession of the ball surely has to be a good thing? If you have the ball the opposition can't hurt you. I don't think possession football is a bad thing but it's having players up top who can put away the chances. Almost every game, it seems, the stats show saints have more attempts on goal than the opposition. I think the issue is our conversion rate of attempts on goal to actual goals seems poor.
  8. Watched the first ten minutes this morning with my pre work coffee will watch the rest tonight Thought the bit I watched was brilliant best years as a Saints supporter in league 1 and the championship. Affordable STs , players staying more than five minutes, great football, good atmospheres at matches good days. Nige = legend
  9. I think we'd beat then now (in fact we should have beaten them that day if Mane could have hit a barn door) it's taken a few games but we are starting to get back our defensive solidity which was missing early season.
  10. I think our early season form has something to do with it. We shipped five goals in our first two games. Which I think got Ronald looking to re establish our defensive record from last season. I'm hoping that now we've gone three clean sheets in a row he is working on the attack...
  11. I wonder how the new look labour will effect things in Scotland? New labour clearly wasn't a hit and the SNP benefitted by taking the left side of the political spectrum. Scotland does seem to be quite left in it's leaning so a new more socialist Labour party might be a problem for the SNP?
  12. The thing about WBA is they played with 10 men behind the ball happy to let us have the ball and then shut down any space in the final third. Man u won't play that way against little old Southampton so I actually think we have more chance of scoring next week. Might not win be I expect it to be a better game than WBA game with both sides wanting to play.
  13. Well I only have solent to go on but they were impressed mind you West brom didn't exactly show much attacking intent.
  14. Why are people surprised? Most fans (of all teams) sing when their winning. Maybe it's rose tinted glasses but the atmosphere at games was better in league 1 and the championship (with less fans) than it has ever been in the PL IMO.
  15. Hope not they might actually become a half decent side with Klopp in charge much rather see Brendan give them several more seasons of soul destroying crap.
  16. On the other hand the Labour party will at least represent the working class socialists it is supposed to. Most Blairites could just join the Liberals and feel right at home. I like the ide of the main parties being very different from each other to give me real choice during an election. Though in truth my leanings probably aren't far enough left to vote for a Corbyn Labour party it's nice to have the option.
  17. I'm actually quite pleased about this not because I particularly like or agree with Jeremy Corbyn but because I'm fed up with the three major parties all trying occupy the middle ground the only thing different about them was the colour of their ties in the last decade. At least this way the electorate will have some real choice about were to cast their vote.
  18. So three clean sheets on the bounce is a positive.......... defence and midfield seems to be getting it together. Scoring goals seems to be the problem now. Like last season looks like our goal scoring is going to be in fits and starts hoping J-rod is going to find his old pre injury form soon.
  19. Saved me some typing...
  20. Why would anyone get upset about this? It's not really any different from than those interviews with ex players in the match day programme every home match. Our history is part of what makes saints, good or bad, I always like to hear about it.
  21. Was he responsible for all the goals scored and conceded then? if not I can't see what bearing that stat has on anything.
  22. LOL Targett has had some shocking moments this season but he had Redmond in his back pocket that day stood him up well and tackled him several times. Wouldn't be surprised if he had come up against Redmond in the England squad and got the measure of him. FWIW I actually think Targett has improved the more games he has played this season not good enough to dislodge a fit Bertrand but not bad back up at all.
  23. Seems that spurs didn't really want to buy any new players as Poch (the saviour of English football) wanted to give more young academy products a chance http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/tottenham-overtake-manchester-united-premier-league-side-most-academy-products-1518815 Mauricio Pochettino has proved his trust in the England talents since arriving in the Premier League in 2013 as replacement for Nigel Adkins at Southampton. Having overseen the progress of Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, James Ward-Prowse and Calum Chambers at the Saints, he replicated the same methods in his first year at White Hart Lane. And the Argentinian boss looks ready to do the same in the current season, having opted against spending too much during the summer transfer window, instead handing chances to Alex Pritchard and Tom Carroll. With Andros Townsend and Danny Rose also in Pochettino's squad, the Soccerex Transfer Review 2016 revealed that Spurs have six academy products in the first team.
  24. I always figured his role was a figure head/meet and greet type whose job was to turn up at functions and such like, make a few speech's and do a bit of media work like a university chancellor. I always assumed the actual business of running the club was left to other people. Ralph never struck me as the all powerful type chairman that are usual at other football clubs.
  25. Anyone who has seen Steven Davis trying to play as a DM could clearly see the difference I would say.
