Sorry why is the fee not relevant ? His wages will be roughly In line with the fee. Rimirez is very poor and should be unloaded pronto. This guy is somewhat of a fraud - a pretender..... Not up to the premier league. He can 'deliver' very little very rarely. He was at fault for at least one of the Chelsea goals where he stood and watched. He is way way off the pace. We 'defend from the front' he doesn't ! Others do..... Get shot and buy Danny Ings, Ings doesn't have a fancy foreign name but he is quick, intelligent and skillful, makes runs off the ball and contributes !!!! Oh and scores goals too....and has Saints in his blood....

Match Thread - Saints v Burnley - FA Cup 3rd Round
captainchris replied to dubai_phil's topic in The Saints
How is it that Poch cannot see that Jos is not good enough - not anywhere near btw! How is it that our manager cannot see this ? Sort out the poor defending and get rid of the poor quality players we insist in playing! -
If you want to talk about 'exposed' areas of the team perhaps you should start with the defensive side! Even Lovren's game has dropped a peg or two lately and our options there are very limited ... Someone needs to take responsibility for exposing our team to Fox and Jos and the clear lack of quality cover defensively. Having said that Osvaldo is looking to be quite an odd signing and you would have to wonder at the money paid for him - not a very convincing signing so far.......

Post Match Reaction: SAINTS 0-3 Chelsea
captainchris replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
This is very true. Our substitutions always seem to involve our best midfield player being subbed - it's more often AL or Cork and then the obvious happens. we lose control of the midfield and the game. MP's decision making is worrying me. I would like three to be shipped out in Jan if pos - Rimirez, Fox and Jos. Rimirez is never going to make it in the Prem unless he plays for a West Ham style team where he doesn't need to retain possession in midfield.... Having said that MP is starting to struggle a bit, Chelsea are streets ahead of us player for player..... It will be a year or two before we are capable of challenging for top five or six. -
100% correct! He is mostly a complete waste of space. There should be an inquest into MP decision making taking Cork off and leaving him on the pitch
-
Agree - take him off and put Ricky up front and bring Rodriguez into midfield where he is more effective... You can't afford Rimirez in our midfield against a class act like Chelsea...
-
Sorry but Gaston is just too slow with the ball continually too slow to Move it ......
-
For Christ sake tackle them !
-
If our back four have to watch today I hope they realise that they have to buy a ticket!
-
Is there law against tackling Torres?
-
Just forget the money and take a blank sheet of paper.... Now what is the answer? We paid double that for a player who is not as good ! So we could easily get another couple of years plus out of Ricky. Keep him - a very good player who is worth his weight in gold.... Osvaldo is still not as good and may not ever be ...... Keep Ricky until we find better replacements... They will cost a packet by the way so 8m in the grand scheme of things is peanuts... Christ we paid. 15m for a player who is not as good and his age is totally irrelevant btw... The money we paid for Osvaldo flattered his ability...

Well for me MP is making quite a few mistakes - bad decisions if you like. We were not hurting Eveton and needed a goal - bring on Rimirez - good call..... However to bring off Jack Cork, I really think that was the mistake. MP constantly gives up the midfield protection when making tactical personnel changes. Cork was playing well - Ward Prowse wasn't playing as well and not only was that an odd decision but our very important holding midfield area was weakened.... For me MP needs to look at his decision making..... At times he does some quite strange things when a like for like swap of players would be the simple answer..... Oh well should expect the usual abuse now I suppose....

Lmao !!!!!

I wouldn't describe any of them as 'options' any more. Might as well blood a youngster or two as put Hooivelt and Fox out there and virtually gift Cardiff two goals at least... It is not as though they are learning their trade and will get better even - they just stumble from calamity to calamity... Is playing them again seriously an option - I think not.... Let's get real, winning a game with these guys defending is going to be almost impossible.....
-
With all due respect there have been countless rows at Old Trafford over the years so your analogy with their success doesn't hold water at all.... Further more I don't recall Rickie saying how wonderful he is - he's stating a fact which is pretty undeniable. This is a mans game and at times all your sports psychology waffle about giving the guy who continually underperforms a pat on the back will not get you far up the table.... Rickie, though having a tough period himself is a winner and indeed a talisman - he is right to demand excellence and indeed replacement of a player who is clearly way below the expectations of this team..... To continue with the three 'Amigos' in our back line is a down right travesty......
-
Well said... You have to seriously question a decision to pick these guys - we do have other options. What message does this send to quality players when they they see these poor players continually being picked.....
-
It's just forum mate - no need for a paddy is there....
-
Yes but Poch is saying we won't be buying as we don't need anyone new? Seriously concerned that Poch continually picks players who plainly are a million miles away the standard required. Persistent personnel choice aberrations by him are basic errors. In addition these positions were well know to all fans as weaknesses that should have been strengthened and werent at the start of the season which is a glaring miscalculation..... After seeIng the team sheet yesterday, to a man, fans in our group predicted axactly what the outcome would be including a jos own goal ! We even had the debacle of our own fans betting on Totenham to win once the team sheet was announced. The 'Team' has a long way to go to be top six and so does Poch it would appear....
-
I'd ponder other options but not them two up front again. SRL on own or consider JRod there ......
-
No - listen, here's a really good idea. What do you think of this - it might just work..... Let's play ............. Lambert and Osvsldo up front !!! Let's try it just once more- it might work but even it doesn't let's try it lots more incase one day it does work. Osvaldo needs tiiiiiiiiimmmmme and so let's try the two together again.....looks great on paper - I'm not sure why we don't do it every game instead of almost every game... Practice makes perfect and it's only the Spuds...... Seriously Maurice please don't do it yet again - it doesn't work, won't work and we've seen it be a definate flop enough times now..... Somehow though I can see MP doing it yet again !
-
why does Osvaldo not turn up for 90% of most games?
captainchris replied to Mr X's topic in The Saints
Not that old chestnut yet again! Osvaldo truely is not a big contributor to the team... He doesn't look worth 15m so far and for that money, by now he should.... I bet if you stuck Gallagher in there for a dozen games he would look as good at the end of that time...... Our game suits hard working team players and as yet Ossie isn't looking great in those departments.... Personally not sure he's really improving - maybe a very small amount but not significantly ..... -

Savage suggests Moyes should buy a load of Southampton players.....
captainchris replied to petermcpete's topic in The Saints
In this climate those two have to be worth 40m each take it or leave it- simple. However even then you have to replace them which is ni on impossible with similar value players. We know that 12 to 15 m after all only buys you fairly average players these days.....Plus if Fellani is worth 27m then AL should be worth near double that! To fullfil our ambitions though we need to keep our best players at all costs..... They can have Fox for 12m, now there's generosity for you! There are plenty of Saints supporters who rate him very highly! Ramirez could go for a very similar fee again highly rated by plenty here..... Hasn't Robbie Savage made any suggestions about who we could buy in order to secure a Champions League spot? I think that is how Cortese will be thinking right now. The thing we have to remember is if we want players to be settled in by next year when I presume we are planning on a push for top 4 or at least 6 then players need to be bought in January. We know that buying in the close season is too late to get players in and settled for pre season and then they are playing catch up.. I think we might be busy bringing in two or three this Jan particularly if a couple leave who can't make the squad except when we have a few injuries....
