Who we've been linked with for January thread...
Cheam Saint replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
Sky Sports say we're linked to Lucas Biglia and Joan Verdu. Not sure we want a player who's on strike at the moment! Anyone know anything about them? http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11700/8421811/Transfer-news-Southampton-want-Lucas-Biglia-and-Joan-Verdu -
Agree it's going to be difficult for him, although I expect he'll utilise Martin Hunter & Jason Dodd in the short term.
-
I'm in waiting for him to tell his interpreter to tell Tadanari Lee's interpreter to tell Tadanari Lee what to do!
-
Absolute disgrace! Football has lost it's soul.

I think Chelsea will rest a few of their squad. Yesterday's game against Stoke was the first of 7 games in 3.5 weeks for them. With Arsenal on Sunday and the league cup game away against Swansea mid week, they'll view the game against us as the easiest. Fortunately, our game against Everton being on Monday means our players should get an adequate rest. Let's hope Chelsea are over-confident following the 1-5 drubbing last weekend!

Great business........................ as long as we don't get relegated and lose Lambert and Ramirez.
-
Joe Jordan for me. He was coming to the end of his career when he played for us, but I've never seen anyone before or since who could not only win most headers but knock them on with pin point accuracy.
-
Would have taken that at the beginning of the day, but you shouldn't lose when opposition are down to 10 men.

"And you must be Pr1ckie Lambert!"

"And you must be *****ie Lambert!"

I went to this also. I think Steve Moran had a goal ruled off-side. The weirdest thing was seeing us play in the blue strip at home. That was the rule back then. If there was a clash, the home team wore their away strip. It confused the hell out of the home fans at corners, singing "come on you blues".

What's the biggest factor in our recent turn around?

I suppose your view of the man of the match on Sunday was they all were exactly the same also. -
What's the biggest factor in our recent turn around?
Cheam Saint replied to Cheam Saint's topic in The Saints
The question was which one is the biggest influence. Unless you're saying they're all exactly equally important. -
Obviously there are a few good reasons why Saints have turned things around of late. But what do you think is the biggest factor? (Mods, maybe this will make a good poll?) 1. Jack’s Back! 2. Ramirez back from injury 3. Finally worked out that 4.4.1.1 is our best formation 4. Introduction of Luke Shaw has tightened up the defence 5. We’re playing worse teams 6. Jason Puncheon starting to meet his potential 7. We've stopped making so many stupid defensive mistakes 8. Other Personally, I think they all play a part but for me it’s got to be Jack Cork. Absolute quality.

Le Tiss thinks it's the worse ref performance he's seen all ages:
-
If true sounds like good man management. Praise in public, criticise in private. You rarely, if ever, hear Alex Ferguson slag off his players. But everyone knows he does behind closed doors.
-
Different rules back then. Now it would definitely be given as Armstrong wasn't interfering with play
-
According to NA 4th official told ref over the mike that their was a handball. This confirmed on Sky.

Except some are not as hard as others!

I love this philosophy of buying young and hungry players to compliment our home grown players. They're only going to get better. However, if the worse happens and we get relegated (not that I think we will) we can sell some of them for at least what we paid for them, if not for more, replace them with up and coming players from the Academy and have another crack, learning from the experience each time. If you compare this to say, Stoke, who buy players that are past their best but still able to play in the premiership (e.g. Crouch & Owen), they will need to make wholesale changes and struggle to recover. Whereas we could probably sell the likes of Lallana and Ramirez for £30+ million and with the parachute money still be able to keep a strong squad. Of course we're not going down so it won't happen!

What's the wierdest thing you've ever seen someone do at football?
Cheam Saint replied to kwsaint's topic in The Saints
Sometime in the 80s at the Dell, I remember a player taking a shot at the Archers end. The shot went over the cross-bar and hit a policeman smack in his helmet (his police helmet!) which fell off his head and into the away supporters. Back then the police used to stand on a raised level looking down on the away support below and someone had to throw it back to him. Funniest thing I've ever seen. Can't remember when or what game it was. Any one remember this? -
That's not actually true, but I agree with you it's ****e

Southampton Player Trivia: Anyone know any pointless facts?
Cheam Saint replied to kwsaint's topic in The Saints
In 1950, The Dell, became the first ground in England to have permanent floodlighting installed. The first game played under the lights there was on 31 October 1950, in a friendly against Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic, followed a year later by the first "official" match under floodlights, a Football Combination (Reserve team) match against Tottenham Hotspur on 1 October 1951.
