have you got the blinkers on or what!?!?!?!?!? Forte was not a great signing - yes his two goals were probably invaluable - but the reality is we are stuck with a player for the next 2 or 3 years that we don't really want and who is probably past his best and not really going to improve. I hope I'm proved wrong - but I dont think I will be and that is part of the reason we are supposedly looking for another striker. At the time it looked like a panic buy as we couldn't get anyone else. As a 6 month loan it would have been a great deal! the Elliott Ward deal was done and dusted by all accounts - but then we dropped it and went for Seabourne. For me Ward would have been a first choice partner for Fonte and would have made the difference between finishing where we did and getting us in the play-offs. It also made the club look a bit stupid and a bit unprofessional - which will come back to bite us and maybe already has done so Seabourne was the cheap option - and he's been OK - but that's it The Fontaine and the Billy Sharpe situations haven't done us any favours either with agents or other clubs Jaidi was great last season - but at 37 he probably should have retired - as it is he's carrying an injury so it will be some while before we see him play again - and a long time before he hits the levels he did at the end of last season. It's also why we're supposedly looking for another left sided centreback. I expect Adkins and Cortese probably think it was the wrong decision to give him another year now - unless he's on a pay as you play deal. Must admit I was 50/50 on whether to give him another year at the end of last season by the way we don't need to worry about Plymouths third keeper - we've got Forecast! the Do Prado, Jack Cork and Steve De Ridder signings and renewing of Schneiderlin's and Lallana's contract's were all brilliant bits of business! Particularly the signing of De Ridder before selling Oxlade-Chamberlain (which in itself was a masterstroke of business)

Jonathan Forte? Failure to sign Elliot Ward? Renewing Jaidi's contract? Just thinking. Not saying it's all bad but it's not all good either. More good than bad to be honest but like most things in life it's not black or White.

At 36/37 he was probably too old to play on. Problem is players lose match fitness over the summer and at that age it takes them a lot longer to regain it. And they get injured more easily. It took him two years to get fully match fit - and we saw the best if him at the end of last season. However I don't think we will see it again. I think we should have let him retire on a high at the end of last season.

Phillipe Senderos!?! Just a guess bases on the Swiss connection. But I have a feeling it's probably Kilgallon - who at least has a cool name! The Jack Cork and Steve De Ridder signings were great - but I have to say the Billy Sharp fiasco, the signing of Danny Fox and the Fontaine debacle suggest are transfer strategy is in a bit of a mess. Fox didn't exactly look great against Millwall - certainly no better than Dickson or Joseph Mills. Why did we need 5 (now 4) left backs. Richardson also struggled against Millwall so perhaps we need a 4th right back (counting Jack Stephens) now as well!

Nothing to worry about there - Martin O'Neill is waiting for Steve Bruce to get sacked before taking the Sunderland Job. Mark Hughes will probably end up at Leicester once Sven's got the sack. Who will be the new Ipswich boss though?

We were very very lucky to get the win today. If there number 8 could finish he might have had a hatrick. Not mention the goal lone scrambles. They were probably the best team we've played so far.

have you been to Holland - its not all like Amsterdam! Rotterdam makes Southampton look beautiful - and Eindhoven makes it look like a city of culture!
-
he was terrible for Leeds against us at St Marys - all he had was pace and little else apart from the arrogance and the selfishness of a goal hanger! he offered nothing to the team which was losing a game a needed to grind out a draw - he just just sulked and wined, dived and complained to the ref a awful lot
-
he was great at Leeds United in the Championship - before they got relegated and he left for Sheffield United. Things seem to have gone a bit off track since then though!
-
Dickson, Harding and Fox are all better at attacking than defending it seems! Either one of the three is going to be leaving or one is going to be playing as a left winger. I would guess that either Harding is leaving or Dickson will be playing as a left winger. I am guessing Holmes will be on his way shortly along with Forte. With Lallana and De Ridder capable of playing on either wing I think it will be a case of Fox being first choice left back, Harding second choice left back and Dickson second choice left winger. I would love to see players like Forte and Holmes leave to make way for players like Maynard and Rodriguez!

She's a glory hunter who defected to Chelsea - shun her! At least Dan Lobb on Daybreak is still a Saints fan!

Leeds have a problem with everyone and anyone! And with a 5.20 kick-off an awful lot of Leeds fans will be in town all day drinking. The police are expecting trouble I think. A friend who is based in Andover has been called in for football duty today.

Any player who wants to leave can simply hand in a transfer request - it's that simple. Giving interviews saying you want to leave is unprofessional. If another club want him they should pay a premium - £10+ million in cash, 50% sell on clause and a couple oh good young players on loan. What is the point of having a youth system if the best players it produces leave after a year or two. We never really replaced Bridge, Bale or Walcott - and the money didn't do us any good either did it. The FA need to ban the transfer of players under 21 or something!

you could add Dyer and Cranie to that list and possibly Best

I'm with you on that - let's lose the summer rumours thread

Scott Steedman quits as Head of Sales & Marketing...
Rebel replied to saintscottofthenortham's topic in The Saints
I don't think he was very good at his job - selling sponsorship rights for the UEFA champions league and sales and marketing for a championship club may be in the same universe but they are different worlds Someone who understands Saints as a club - and has maybe worked in both B2C/B2B marketing would be far better than someone who has just taken sponsorship orders for UEFA Just sayin' -
To be honest at the moment it looks pretty close - but I'd expect us to win at St Marys and match them at Nottarf Krap!

I have a feeling he's going to play Cork at centreback

Yep - I'm going to have to get a copy of my 70+ dad's passport or something - plus something with my 8 year old nephews birth date on to take down to the ground on Monday so I can renew 4 season tickets and spend over a £1000 with Saints! They really don't want our money do they! Cashflow over the summer really can't be a problem can it - with the delay in releasing season tickets and the new kit there is obivously no need to bring money into the club over the summer to pay the bills/players wages etc. It suggests to me that Saints have a lot of money in the bank somewhere - and I would guess from this money to spend on strengthening the squad. Its not the actions of a business desperate for cash is it! Still in my experience investment bankers have no idea how to actually run a business!
-
I can't even get that far - I need to renew 2 adult season tickets, 1 senior and 1 under 11 and it will only let me select 3 adult and 1 senior as a bundle!
-
I think it's far more likely to be his brother at Fulham - it looks as though they want to move him on - and he won't go back to Sheff Utd as they've been relegated. If we are after a left sided defender / midfielder I'd much rather we signed Reto Ziegler on a free transfer from relegated Sampdoria - he's out in contract and unlikely to stay there. Plus he's Swiss!

Maynard but quite a long way! has the pace we need - and a great scoring record in the Championship - also has the ability to step up to the Premier League I would think I'm not sure CMS will be that good in the Championship - he only scored 10 goals or so last time around - and Sharp has had his dry spells at this level as well however I think Maynard would be the better fit with Lambert and the rest of the team - and he has the killer pace we so desperately need
