one player!?!? we need about 3 or 4 if not more! Adam Le Fondre and Tom Craddock, Antonio and Waigo, plus a CM or two at the moment I feel really let down by Cortese and Pardew after all their talk at the end of last season - its time to deliver on all that easy talk now boys!
-
Why are we so crap at the beginning of the season..?
Rebel replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
pre-season was a joke we should have played 3 decent teams in Switzerland - and then come back home and played 3 decent teams at St Mary's in a 4 wat Ted Bates Cup! We should also have taken the Eastleigh game a bit more seriously as well the team look like they are still playing pre-season friendlies to get match fit -
to be honest I think both Pardew and Cortese have to take the blame for our slow start to the season - which looks like it will cost us automatic promotion coz at this rate it will be the middle of September before we've got our team sorted out - got the players match fit that is and brought in the players the squad is missing to challenge for the title that is - and that means we'll probably have lost 12 or so points we really should have put in the bag today we looked at least five players short of a squad good enough to win League One - 1 CB, 2 Wingers, 1 RB, 1 LB, 2 CM and a CF we've started this season much weaker than we finished last season without Waigo, Antonio and a clutch of midfielders gone - on top of that the players aren't match fit and team hasn't gelled yet pre-season was a joke - the first team played 2 possibly 3 half hearted games - whereas we should have played at least 6 if not more semi-competitive games so they could hit the ground running there are massive gaps in the squad - which I believe will be filled - but it could be too late by then! at the moment we are not evening running - we are walking into trouble
-
we should sign Pitman - he'd be a great back-up for Lambert

From a rumours site: "It looks likely that Michail Antonio & Nicholas Bignall will move from Reading to St marys. Antonio will sign a three year deal for around £900,000. Bignall will sign on a year long loan deal. Both deals will happen once the club is back to normal following Markus Liebherr's death. A deal to bring ex-Saint Matt Oakley back may still happen also. Alan pardew is still hopeful of landing Las Palmas striker Saul too. A fee of around £400,000 had been agreed. But Las Palmas are also trying to persuade Saints to buy centre-back Samuel as well for around £350,000." We've also been linked with ryan harley (midfielder from Exeter), matt phillips and jon obika (striker from Spurs)

It's because most clubs are in financial trouble I expect - players earn too much at all levels - season ticket sales are probably down due to the recession we're in - and if the HMRC win the case on image rights a lot of clubs are going to owe the tax man money they don't have! And the FA do sweet F A whilst football rots from the inside
-
he has a bad attitude - a lack of commitment if you like he still chickens out of 50-50 balls and fails to go the extra yard for the ball a big time charlie

I thought it was just our usual pre-season friendly against Bournemouth - and at £17 I thought it was a bit too much to watch that lot from the beach/retirement village on the other side of the New Forest its not exactly a derby is it - half of Bournemouth support Saints anyway last time I watched Saints play Bournemouth at Dean Court there were far more Saints fans in and around the ground the ground than they were Bournemouth fans - so many of us that an awful lot of Saints fans were stuck outside the ground still the Bournemouth fans were fairly unpleasant until they realised they were massively outnumbered - and I'd only gone as Bournemouth were desperate for the money from the gate receipts to keep afloat - that's gratitude for you! its like being hated by the little old lady down the road with a zimmer frame and no teeth - when you've you know the blue few at the other end of the road - dirty cheating lying violent ASBOS living in the squat with the burnt out car in the drive and the mouldy sofa on the lawn - hate you with a passion
-
I would have thought that was more 4-2-3-1 than 4-4-2 or at least a 4-5-1 does that mean we've only really got one fit first team forward tonight?

From Football Rumours (I know, I know - but I couldn't help myself) Southampton 2010 2011 1 Kelvin Davis 23 Tommy Forecast 24 Bartosz Bialkowski 2 Frazer Richardson 3 Dan Harding 5 Ryan Dickson 6 Jose Fonte 12 Danny Butterfield 15 Radhi Jaidi 17 Aaron Martin 18 Joseph Mills 19 Dan Seaborne 25 Craig Dawson (Rochdale - 800k) 37 Jack Saville 4 Morgan Schneiderlin 8 Chris Lines (Bristol Rovers - 800k) 10 Jason Puncheon 14 Dean Hammond 16 Paul Wotton 20 Adam Lallana 21 Lee Holmes 27 Oscar Gobern 28 Callum McNish 29 Ryan Doble 30 Matt Phillips (Wycombe - 275k) 31 Emmanuel Frimpong (Arsenal - Loan) 32 Michail Antonio (Reading - 500k) 36 Anthony Pulis 7 Rickie Lambert 9 Lee Barnard 11 Rowan Vine (QPR - 750k) 22 David Connolly 26 Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 33 Ian Thomas-Moore (Tranmere - 200k) All the transfers look and sound reasonable it has to be said - I'd rather get Waigo and le Fondre in upfront though!
-
Maybe we should be looking at League One and League Two players then - Matt Phillips from Wycombe, Adam Le Fondre from Rotherham, Brett Pitman from Bournemouth for example. I still think we'd have a chance of signing Matt Oakley to cover Midfield if we tried - I'm sure he'd like to finish his career back at home - he could move back to the house he built then - and he's due a testimonial from us for over 10 years service so we could throw that into the deal as a maker! I would say that most players would come here if we paid them enough - but they would probably expexct a bit more for dropping down the divisions as compensation - and I think that's the problem - we're not prepared to pay it
-
Adam Le Fondre please! Along with Matt Phillips, Michail Antonio and Waigo! That's not too much to ask is it! Get rid of Wotton, Holmes and Pulis to pay for it if we have too!
-
Ian Moore is 33 - no thanks! I'd rather We signed someone with potential like Adam Le Fondre
-
Benjani supposedly is just about to sign for Brizzle Citah!
-
The set up has to be right for that manager to succeed - he needs the right chairman or chief executive behind him and the right environment for example Lowe and Redknapp was never going to work whereas Hoddle and Lowe worked well Sturrock was a case of wrong man wrong club with Strachan everything was right for short term success and he looked a better manager than he was managers need the right squad to start with or time to build the right one - pardew never had the time or money at Charlton
-
I'd drop Kelvin for Bart, Jaidi for Seaborne and Harding for Dickson and start with Holmes on the left wing
-
problem is at the moment we are not the same team that finished last season - we really missed Antonio and Waigo today - for the pace they bring to the side and as something different to come off the bench we also lack cover for Lambert - which was proved beyond a doubt today and without Schneiderlin or Hammond we have no one to make the play in central midfield at the moment we've got weaker - whilst Huddersfield have got a lot stronger - Sheff Weds have strengthend and Peterborough and Plymouth hae kept their squads together so they will all be in the running - and then there's Swindon, Charlton and Brighton who could all be contenders as well automatic promotion is a big ask at the moment and a slow start to the season with a couple of losses or draws will cost us at the end of the season - those 3 points lost today could make the difference between finishing 2nd with atomatic promotion or 3rd and going into the play-offs in May - and the play-offs are a lottery
-
Whatever people want to say about the game today we badly missied Lambert or another big centre forward to cover for him. We also missed the pace Antonio and Waigo gave us - and options off the bench with those three in the squad we probably would have won today - and drawn at worst
-
but its still full of Americans! and isn't Florida a Republican state with a Bush as governor - so that means its full of redneck americans - not the West Coast or New England style americans we're used to seeing over here! the first time you actually meet an average american it's quite a shock - insular, fat, badly dressed, right wing - but mostly depressing as you realise these people dominate the most powerful nation in the world!
-
Jidda are after Craig Dawson the centre back not Stephen Dawson the midfielder - who has already signed for Leyton Orient. I don't think we need another centre back anyway really
-
Didn't Stephen Dawson sign for Dagenham a couple if weeks ago
-
I can't believe they got away with it!
-
but with Antonio its all about potential - he's only 20 - and he will be on the fringes of the Reading squad this season - whereas with Saints he knows he will play and maybe win something! I think Reading took up the option of an extra year that was in his contract mostly so that we would have to pay more for him - rather than us get him on free transfer and then have an U23 development fee set by tribunal. It's hopefully just a case of brinkmamship and negotiations now! Whats happened to Waigo though? It sounded like he was going to make a return. If we end up with Waigo and Antonio coming back - and add Matt Phillips as well that will be a great news! Options of the bench indeed!
