Steve Howard not Brian Howard!

I think people are ignoring the fact that a few players we've tried to sign have gone to clubs in the NPC - Adomah, Bailey and Jackson for eample. And others have so far refused to drop down a league - Stock and Danns. It also looks like Reading want to keep Antonio or simply want too much money for him. We still lack the pace we need so much - and despera need another forward, a winger and that midfield general! Sheff Wed have a great squad for League 1 and will be among the favourites for promotion. As will we but at the moment we have a weaker squad than at the end of last season - all we've added is a left back and two right backs - of which the best signing is now crocked! Antonio and Waigo still need to be replaced if nothing else. Let's no forget about Plymouth, Peterborough, Swindon and Huddersfield! We have to make sure we finish in the top two - the play-offs are a lottery we can't afford to take a risk on.
-
he's too small and lightweight - and lacks pace yes he can cross the ball and he's tricky even with the ball at his feet - but I'm not sure it's enough - the opposition just brush him of the ball in the photo's from the training camp he looked very unfit - probably needs a season of weight training to bulk up enought to rough it with the big boys!

I was having a really bad day - but this good news has really cheered me up!

Sam Vokes would be a good alternative to Lambert or Barnard to lead the line - and as a Saints fan I am sure he would give that bit extra as well. As Lambert is actually better playing off another he's work well with Rickie as well. I feel we need a striker with real pace and a 'battering ram' centre forward to give us some real options up front. The pace option is the more urgent one though!

Under 21s (?) coach appointed - and Henderson leaves

Originally the academy set-up in England was to have three leagues - U17, U19 and U21 - but the FA/Premier League abandonned it before it was even implemented properly and switched to U16 and U18 leagues. Personally I'd like to see a switch back to U17, U19 and U21 and then the big clubs having B teams lower down the leagues restricted to players U23. Far too many players are cast aside far too soon - without being given a real chance to make it. -
I think it has more to do with the way he left us to be honest - went back on his word by all accounts! good riddance in my opinion - the words slow, lumbering and the phrase turning circle of a tanker all spring to mind! Tyson and/or Simeon Jackson are the type of striker we need up front to play off Lambert.

I have to say I'm surprised the Owls have strengthened their squad - and not best pleased about it either! I think you will push us all the way for promotion this season. Along with Huddersfield and Peterborough - and possibly Brighton and Plymouth. I think Charlton and Swindon will be a lot weaker than last season though and can't really see them pulling away from the chasing pack! If Swindon lose Austin they are just a well organised defensive unit with no cutting edge - and maybe losing Paynter has blunted them enough already! Clark leaving Huddersfield could be a step backwards for them as well. I also think Plymouth and Peterborough could well lose more players than people think. Charlton have already lost their two best players - and hopefully a few more will follow them out of the door as well. The next few weeks will be key though - and I think the odds on promotion from League 1 could change a lot before the end of August!
-
if only we'd got promoted we'd have signed Inigo Calderon, Nicky Bailey, Andrew Surman - and probably Simeon Jacskon, Albert Adomah and Antonio as welll by now!!!! I guess we will all have to just wait and see what happens whilst silly season plays itself out! Unless we are offering a lot more money most player's are going to take up the offer of a contract from a CCC club over a League 1 club any day of the week - sorry!
-
If people seriously think we could sign someone from the world cup how about any one of those Chile players!? They look good to me - great in the tackle too!
-
I've been told we've got a friendly lined up with Havant & Waterlooville as well - not sure it will be that friendly if we do though!
-
Supposedly we have made offer for Chris Lines and it has been accepted - £400K or something like that. Its on one of the transfer runours sites so its probably a load of rubbish - but Lines has been linked with us by quite a few people on here so you never know. I worked with a Kiwi who played in the same team as Fallon back in NZ as a teenager - he was amazed Fallon was now a professional footballer over here as he thought he was sh*te as a youngster. Saying that my workmate was pretty good at football and had played at a high level in NZ. He probably would have made it as a professional himself if he'd grown up over here.

Craig Bryson - from Scotland - young central midfielder!?
-
If Harding is the best left back in League 1 we are unlikely to sign a better left back from the CCC just so they can sit on the bench. If Dickson is the second best left back in League 1 it gives us real strength in depth - and real competition for places. We need 22 first team players - two for each position - if we are going to 'walk this league' in the coming season - and then a couple of good utilities players who can do a job in a number of positions. Also at 23 Dickson is at a good age and can get a lot better. Harding at 28 is probably near his peak from a fitness and experience point of view. I think its a good signing. Lets hope Inigo Calderon follows shortly along with a couple of others to add some real depth to the squad.
-
Did you post that on there though? That is the question!?
-
Eastwood and Tyson would both be good signings - they both have good track records in League 1 and scored lots of goals at this level. I'd think about getting them both in on loan. Eastwood as cover for Lambert and Tyson to replace Waigo.
-
I'd take him back he can play on the left or in the middle - in either a 3 man or 4 man midfield. He can also cover at left back he's also a great passer of the ball - and with Lallana, Schneiderlin and Lambert would take our passing up a level he's a Saint and would definately playfor the shirt he's a level above League 1 that's for sure
-
its worth remembering that both Hudderfield and Swindon have wealthy owners - not in Liebherrs bracket - but still wealthy - and both clubs have spent quite a lot of money over the last few season for this division. I can only see players leaving those two clubs for clubs in the CCC - and mostly because Swindon and Hudds wont and dont need to sell to a promotion rival - sorry!

It seems AA is trying to fix the vote on accepting the CVA by counting a debt to Pompey from Cantberbury (the kit sponsor/supplier that went bust) as a debt from Pompey to Canterbury - meaning they are actually £4million better off than they pretend to be - and this £4 million reduces the % of the debt owed to HMRC and there ability to vote against the CVA. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/may/14/portsmouth-debt-administration-missing-funds HMRC have reserved the right to challenge AA's position as administrator - and if the CVA gets passed I can see them doing this! Reading between the lines it looks as though HMRC are determined not to let Pompey get away with it. At the very least Pompey should start next season with a points reduction and be forced to use all of the 4 years parchute payment to pay-off their debts. Still nice new away shirt for them - wasn't pink on of their original kit colurs!?
-
Surely Oakley would be the cover for Schneiderlin that we lack so badly - and a replacement for Hammond if we want to sit on a lead as for signing Saints fans - it's a good idea - as least we know they will want to play for the shirt!
-
Stoke and Pulis owe us a big favour after we signed Junior Pulis in my book
-
I'd rather have Matthew Oakley back - who is the same age and a better player - and if rumours our correct could be leaving Leicester this summer. He might come back just to get his testimonial - he was here for 12 years or something like that!
-
the panels are clear to let more sunlight on to the pitch - or so I always thought - so they probably can't be changed much really otherwise great ideas
-
a wage restriction for the whole squad based on a % of a clubs turnover would work - its already applied in League 2 and other countries - and it would encourage clubs to manage their squads better I'd still like to see a maximum weekly wage though so clubs like Man Utd, Citeh and Chelsea can't just buy the league! there still have bigger and better sqauds based on their turnovers - but they wouldn't be able to have 25 players on £100K plus a week along with the qoutas for first team squads - minimum number of home grown players a maximum number of foreign players - it would make football a lot more competitive. its the way American sport is run - with the worst team getting the first pick on the NFL draft for example as well as salary caps football is a sport and sport is not business! its a cultural things like art!
-
Someone has leaked West Ham's palyers wages! Naughty Naughty! take a look: http://www.football-rumours.com/whufc.php When you see players like Boa Morte and Gabbidon are on £70K and £50K per week respectively you know football has gone made. Both are CCC standard players nowadays! None of the WHU players should be on more than £30K a week given the size of the club. Football needs a salary cap - both in terms of a weekly wage for players and as a % of clubs annual turnover - say £50K and 60%. The players are eating the game - biting the very hand that feeds them! I know its not Saints related - but I thought we'd all be interested!
