  1. Double Agent Wotton!?!
  2. I don't think the first team is any weaker than last season - or should I say the starting 11 - and I can't see any of these players leaving either. But we do have less strength in depth without Waigo and Antonio in the squad. And as yet we haven't added that extra central midfield general we need. If rumours are to be believed we have tried - or looked at signing a number of players - Freddy Adu, Jeremie Aliadiere, Nicky Bailey, Neil Danns, Brian Stock, Michail Antonio, Albert Adomah, Simeon Jackson, Nathan Tyson. So far it seems the pull of the Championship or are refusal to be held to ransom over wages and transfer fees has put an end to most of these. Some of them still might come off though so you never know. We currently have Darren Carter on trial to fill a hole in central midfield and according to some have already signed Tyson. Waigo may also make a return according to others. We also have Essajas (?) on trial. And I expect there are one or two other players in the pipeline as well. I have no doubt that by the end of August we will have a stronger squad than last season! And then I think we'll top it off withsome very good loan players!
  3. the PA system definately needs fixing! how about we 'proclaim them': I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more just to be the fan who walked a 1000 miles to see Southampton score .................................... ...................................... ................................... (no idea how you write the 'da da' bit) or something like that!
  4. Aaron McClean would be a good signing for us - strengthens us and weakens a promotion rival with one stroke of the pen!
  5. I think we'll know a lot more about where we need to strengthen when the first team play against Sutton on Satyurday. We do need to step pre-season up a bit though! Although we have a great first 11 - at the moment we don't really have any strength in depth - and not that many options that can change our play off the bench. Antonio and Waigo gave us that strength in depth going forward and options off the bench. We need to replace them both if nothing else.
  6. We should withdraw from NATO and sign up to a Western European Military Treaty organisation based on the EU to replace it - with a common purchase and supply policy to cut costs. You never know it might act as balance of power between the USA, Russia and whoever else! Their is no special relationship - only an abusive one! Make Trident an EU or European Nuclear deterrent - not a UK deterrent - thereby spreading the cost. Stop legitimising the USA's aggressive and negative foreign policy by no longer acting as there military lapdog. Base are armed forces on the Japanese Defence Forces and create one combined command structure. Pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq.
  7. I don't think you actually get many Romani in the UK - there are a lot in Spain and Eastern Europe though! Jesus Navas the spanish winger - and I think Antonio Reyes - are both from gypsie backgrounds. Not totally sure if they are Romani though but I think they are. Then there are travellers which I don't think are an ethnic group - and then is it 'tinkers' which are from Ireland - the clan with no home or something like that! I think they are the one in Snatch! They're a bit like scallys and scousers really - only with wheels! They are a couple of people that travel around the country lanes of Hampshire in traditional gypsie wagons with horses - you can see them around Farley Mount country park or out towards Alresford or Micheldever sometimes. They nearly always way hello as you drive past thinking blimey I bet they have a lot less stress in their lives than I do what with the mortgage, the missus and the boss! Maybe they've got the right idea! I'm not keen on the travellers that seem to park up anywhere they like though in their big motor caravans or trucks - and then leave a real mess behind them when they move on! And don't get me started on the new age travellers! They are nearly as irritating as those middle aged middle class people that tow caravans down the motorway doing 40! Have they not heard of that 21st century invention - the hotel - or even a holiday cottage! Caravans - I'd ban all of them myself unless they are on country lanes and pulled by a horse!
  8. I didn't see them advertise it anywhere - he must be an old contact of Cortese's! Job for the boy!?! Its not the best picture of him really is it? He looks a bit like Simon Pegg off the TV - Run Fatboy Run! More so than Jason Donovan anyway! I hope he's not as deluded as the last Scotsman to get involved behind the scenes at Saints though - Jim Hone. His business model was straight out of the City - and I mean that in a going bust kind of way! He's obviously got the contacts but I have my doubts that selling sponsorship rights for the Champions League is anything like marketing a League 1 club in England. It also mean he's one of the people responisble for the slow death of football in this country - where the sponsors and SKY TV come a 1000 miles before the supporters and the game itself! Do you want to watch 22 english men kick a football around? Yes me Wenger I do - especially if it means I can afford a ticket to watch my team at 3.00pm on a Saturday afternoon every other weekend - and know that some of them might even get to wear the three lions on their chest one day!
  9. I'd still like to see us bring Vokes or Juktiewitz in on loan - as local lads they would give that bit extra! I have a feeling we will see 2 or 3 bright young players join us on loan from Chelsea or Arsenal just before the season starts. I can see Jacob Mellis coming back on loan from Chelsea for a start and maybe players like Simpson or Eastmond from Arsenal joining him as well. There's still a chance Waigo and Antonio will be back as well!
  10. Steve Howard not Brian Howard!
  11. I think people are ignoring the fact that a few players we've tried to sign have gone to clubs in the NPC - Adomah, Bailey and Jackson for eample. And others have so far refused to drop down a league - Stock and Danns. It also looks like Reading want to keep Antonio or simply want too much money for him. We still lack the pace we need so much - and despera need another forward, a winger and that midfield general! Sheff Wed have a great squad for League 1 and will be among the favourites for promotion. As will we but at the moment we have a weaker squad than at the end of last season - all we've added is a left back and two right backs - of which the best signing is now crocked! Antonio and Waigo still need to be replaced if nothing else. Let's no forget about Plymouth, Peterborough, Swindon and Huddersfield! We have to make sure we finish in the top two - the play-offs are a lottery we can't afford to take a risk on.
  12. he's too small and lightweight - and lacks pace yes he can cross the ball and he's tricky even with the ball at his feet - but I'm not sure it's enough - the opposition just brush him of the ball in the photo's from the training camp he looked very unfit - probably needs a season of weight training to bulk up enought to rough it with the big boys!
  13. I was having a really bad day - but this good news has really cheered me up!
  14. Sam Vokes would be a good alternative to Lambert or Barnard to lead the line - and as a Saints fan I am sure he would give that bit extra as well. As Lambert is actually better playing off another he's work well with Rickie as well. I feel we need a striker with real pace and a 'battering ram' centre forward to give us some real options up front. The pace option is the more urgent one though!
  15. Originally the academy set-up in England was to have three leagues - U17, U19 and U21 - but the FA/Premier League abandonned it before it was even implemented properly and switched to U16 and U18 leagues. Personally I'd like to see a switch back to U17, U19 and U21 and then the big clubs having B teams lower down the leagues restricted to players U23. Far too many players are cast aside far too soon - without being given a real chance to make it.
  16. I think it has more to do with the way he left us to be honest - went back on his word by all accounts! good riddance in my opinion - the words slow, lumbering and the phrase turning circle of a tanker all spring to mind! Tyson and/or Simeon Jackson are the type of striker we need up front to play off Lambert.
  17. I have to say I'm surprised the Owls have strengthened their squad - and not best pleased about it either! I think you will push us all the way for promotion this season. Along with Huddersfield and Peterborough - and possibly Brighton and Plymouth. I think Charlton and Swindon will be a lot weaker than last season though and can't really see them pulling away from the chasing pack! If Swindon lose Austin they are just a well organised defensive unit with no cutting edge - and maybe losing Paynter has blunted them enough already! Clark leaving Huddersfield could be a step backwards for them as well. I also think Plymouth and Peterborough could well lose more players than people think. Charlton have already lost their two best players - and hopefully a few more will follow them out of the door as well. The next few weeks will be key though - and I think the odds on promotion from League 1 could change a lot before the end of August!
  18. if only we'd got promoted we'd have signed Inigo Calderon, Nicky Bailey, Andrew Surman - and probably Simeon Jacskon, Albert Adomah and Antonio as welll by now!!!! I guess we will all have to just wait and see what happens whilst silly season plays itself out! Unless we are offering a lot more money most player's are going to take up the offer of a contract from a CCC club over a League 1 club any day of the week - sorry!
  19. If people seriously think we could sign someone from the world cup how about any one of those Chile players!? They look good to me - great in the tackle too!
  20. I've been told we've got a friendly lined up with Havant & Waterlooville as well - not sure it will be that friendly if we do though!
  21. Supposedly we have made offer for Chris Lines and it has been accepted - £400K or something like that. Its on one of the transfer runours sites so its probably a load of rubbish - but Lines has been linked with us by quite a few people on here so you never know. I worked with a Kiwi who played in the same team as Fallon back in NZ as a teenager - he was amazed Fallon was now a professional footballer over here as he thought he was sh*te as a youngster. Saying that my workmate was pretty good at football and had played at a high level in NZ. He probably would have made it as a professional himself if he'd grown up over here.
  22. Craig Bryson - from Scotland - young central midfielder!?

    Ryan Dickson

If Harding is the best left back in League 1 we are unlikely to sign a better left back from the CCC just so they can sit on the bench. If Dickson is the second best left back in League 1 it gives us real strength in depth - and real competition for places. We need 22 first team players - two for each position - if we are going to 'walk this league' in the coming season - and then a couple of good utilities players who can do a job in a number of positions. Also at 23 Dickson is at a good age and can get a lot better. Harding at 28 is probably near his peak from a fitness and experience point of view. I think its a good signing. Lets hope Inigo Calderon follows shortly along with a couple of others to add some real depth to the squad.
  24. Did you post that on there though? That is the question!?
