    Promotion?

I think we are looking at the play-offs at best this season - and that's if we can get a good manager in before too long, bring in some good players on loan and then strengthen the squad in January at the moment the team is weaker than than the one that finished last season - we have a great first 11 - but no real strength in depth and with Lallana injured we really can't afford to lose any of the other players to injury Cortese seems to have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory - pre-season was a joke, cup game pricing, matchday tickets prices and the booking tax an own-goal, the ban on press photographers just plain stupid, the failure to strengthen the team idiotic, allowing the team to get weaker criminal and sacking the manager Alan Pardew the day before the transfer window closes insane
  2. that would be the same Leonardo that failed at Milan - partly because he didn't actually want to be the manager - he was happy being a Director of Football but was forced to take the hot seat when Ancelotti left! he was great player - and he's got great contacts in Italy but I think he's proved he's not a manager. he was was criticized for being too pragmatic and unable to change a game (sounds a bit like Pardew) he'd probably make a great DoF though!
  3. look out for a record low attendance
  4. I have to say its been a really disappointing transfer window (unless things have happened that we don't know about) - not too mentions close season, pre-season and start to the season! The transfer window has closed are we have no manager and a weaker team than we finished last season with. We made and filled a hole at right back but that is about it! I'm not convinced that Butterfield and Richardson actually give us any better options at right back than Lloyd James and Wayne Thomas did. We're still missing a striker - we need 4 good stikers to see us through the season and somone who can actually provide cover for Lambert. Connolly was a cheap signing - and at his age and with his injury record won't see us through the season. With Lallana's knee injury it looks like we'll be playing Do Prado/Guly from the start. And Guly was a gamble at that. So without Antonio and Waigo we have no pace and nothing on the bench that can change the game. Oxlade-Chamberlain is too young - and still got a lot of convincing to do before he can come close to filling that particular hole in the squad. Holmes is too small and too slow - injury prone - and not as good as he thinks he is! We also have no depth in the middle - once you look past Hammond and Schneiderlin there is no one there. Wotton is too old and slow and can't pace. Sure he's OK if you want to see out the last 10 minutes of a game at 3-0 up but that it. The Pulis JR situation is a joke. I'd take Gillett and Lloyd-James over those two any day! Wotton, Pulis and Holmes should all have been shifted out for a start. So its 2 weeks until the loan window opens up - that's two weeks to appoint a decent manager - but will it be enough to save our season if we lose the next two league games and get knocked out of the JPT. I guess we'll see how badly the team has been affected by Pardew's sacking against Swindon tonight - but i'd imagine they are bit shell shocked and bit dispirited by it all.

    Paul Hart?....

Please no - not a skate again - it will end in tears
  6. It won't be a manager it will be a first team coach under the new structure which will rules out any of the British big boys - which means it will someone like Tisdale or Howe, Zola or some other continental coach
  7. What stupid timing - the day before the transfer window closes - if they were going to sack him it should have been done weeks ago. If we are talking to players they are hardly going to join us now. Did the death of Marcus delay the timing of the sacking or did it remove Cortese's only obstacle to doing it? How will it affect Pardews team? It's probably put an end to our chances of automatic promotion. By the time we have a new manager or whatever it's going to be in place it could well be too late. The only decent managers out there I can think off are O'Neill, Hoddle and Coppell but I can't see anyone of their calibre dropping down to League 1
  8. If we've sacked Pardew does that mean there will no more signings - probably - what a stupid time to sack a manager
  9. Have to agree with you on this one!
  10. maybe he wants Harte as the playmaker in midfield to sit in front of the back four - he can defend and he can certainly pass the ball I'd like to see us get another centreback to play alongside Fonte though - although I think both Seaborne and Martin will be good enough in time. I have a feeling we might bring one in on loan once the premiership clubs have finalised there 25 man squads - someone like Andrew Davies from Stoke for example.
  11. we're being linked with Jermaine Easter on the Transfer Rumours site - its probably not true - but there you go I suppose he'd do a job for us if we did sign him - but he's not exactly the type of signing I was hoping for - at 28 he's an old pro but we already have those in Lambert, Barnard and Connolly - I was hopig for some pace, power, youth and potential I'd rather see Waigo back if we are going to sign someone of that age I'd like to see us get Antonio back for some pace, power and potential and then bring in some players like Matt Phillips and Adam Le Fondre as well I have to say I have been very underwhelmed by our transfer dealings so far this season - and I don't think my expectations were that high anyway. Permanent deals for Waigo and Antonio, a first choice right back and cover for Harding at left back, a playmaker in central midfield, as well as cover for Lambert were the minimum I was expecting really - and so far we haven't even done all of that Dickson, Richardson, Butterfield and Do Prado is it so far - and we've let James and Gillett go - and still got Pulis, Wotton and Holmes! I'm not quite sure where Do Prado fits in - as a winger, stiker or attacking midfielder? I've got my fingers crossed in hope that Cortese and Pardew don't let us down though
  12. Is Harte a centreback or left back nowadays!? Perhaps he's going to be our play maker in the middle - he can pass and take set pieces but he has no pace
  13. Jaidi seems to be on the verge of being past it he also tries to be too clever with the ball when it should be a case of safety first - and his passing is not always great either Seabourne and Martin should be pushing for the starting position alongside Fonte - but I have a feeling Martin will be the better of the two in the long run!
  14. you missed the bit about moving to St Marys, the years of constant sell-outs in a 32,000 seater stadium, the 2003 FA cup final, being in the UEFA cup, being the 7th largest English club in terms of revenue that year - and the 10th on attendance over the season and how it took a lot of incompetence and mis-management to take us from there to here - where we are now - the 3rd division in less than a decade!
  15. The team as a whole is just not match fit - pre-season was a joke. The first team only really played 2 maybe 3'very friendly' games. That's why they are off the pace and not scoring. It also means the new players like Dickson had no chance to bed themselves into the team. If Lambert, Puncheon and Lallana were injured it wouldn't have helped either I guess. Still we got nothing on the bench to change the game and no pace in the team. In terms of signing players we needed to make a strong challenge for promotion and putting together a decent pre-season programme Pardew and Cortese have let us down. Now they are going to have to pull some signings out of the hat and hope our form picks up before it's too late. With Hudds and Sheff Weds as well as Peterborough, Plymouth and Swindon in the running this division is already much harder than I think they thought it was going to be - and promotion let alone automatic promotion is far from assured. We needed to start the season running at full pace - at the moment we don't even seem to be jogging along. We're still missing a playmaker in CM and possibly a decent holding midfielder as well. We also need pace and possibly one or two wingers and a fast striker. We also still need another big centre forward to cover for Lambert. And it now looks like we need another CB to play alongside Fonte.
  16. we should go after Matt Oakley instead
  17. I'd love to see us sign Adam Le Fondre but I think it will more likely be one of Tom Craddock, Matt Phillips or Michail Antonio
  18. Matt Phillips
  19. I have a feeling it all comes down to policing costs - either the club or the police are saving money by not closing the road for 20 minutes
  20. one player!?!? we need about 3 or 4 if not more! Adam Le Fondre and Tom Craddock, Antonio and Waigo, plus a CM or two at the moment I feel really let down by Cortese and Pardew after all their talk at the end of last season - its time to deliver on all that easy talk now boys!
  21. pre-season was a joke we should have played 3 decent teams in Switzerland - and then come back home and played 3 decent teams at St Mary's in a 4 wat Ted Bates Cup! We should also have taken the Eastleigh game a bit more seriously as well the team look like they are still playing pre-season friendlies to get match fit
  22. to be honest I think both Pardew and Cortese have to take the blame for our slow start to the season - which looks like it will cost us automatic promotion coz at this rate it will be the middle of September before we've got our team sorted out - got the players match fit that is and brought in the players the squad is missing to challenge for the title that is - and that means we'll probably have lost 12 or so points we really should have put in the bag today we looked at least five players short of a squad good enough to win League One - 1 CB, 2 Wingers, 1 RB, 1 LB, 2 CM and a CF we've started this season much weaker than we finished last season without Waigo, Antonio and a clutch of midfielders gone - on top of that the players aren't match fit and team hasn't gelled yet pre-season was a joke - the first team played 2 possibly 3 half hearted games - whereas we should have played at least 6 if not more semi-competitive games so they could hit the ground running there are massive gaps in the squad - which I believe will be filled - but it could be too late by then! at the moment we are not evening running - we are walking into trouble
  23. we should sign Pitman - he'd be a great back-up for Lambert
  24. From a rumours site: "It looks likely that Michail Antonio & Nicholas Bignall will move from Reading to St marys. Antonio will sign a three year deal for around £900,000. Bignall will sign on a year long loan deal. Both deals will happen once the club is back to normal following Markus Liebherr's death. A deal to bring ex-Saint Matt Oakley back may still happen also. Alan pardew is still hopeful of landing Las Palmas striker Saul too. A fee of around £400,000 had been agreed. But Las Palmas are also trying to persuade Saints to buy centre-back Samuel as well for around £350,000." We've also been linked with ryan harley (midfielder from Exeter), matt phillips and jon obika (striker from Spurs)
