There's no way he will leave, as if he did, the club would have made one of the worlds great former players look an absolute prize prat. I cannot see someone as staunch and direct as Koeman taking too kindly to being made to look like a fool... That's why it cannot happen now. The repercussions are much more than us just losing a player.

It is a strange one, maybe the club just don't fancy him? It's hard to say he has to prove himself, as he's proven himself for 2 seasons in the PL! And the club offered Fonte and Reed new contracts without allowing them to 'prove' themselves to the new manager. I reckon this will be a classic contract wind down job and will end up with us being forced to cash in during January for £2m or something - the club will still see it as making a profit on him though.

He's a multi million pound footballer on a shed load of wages, and owned by a dodgy sports agency. He won't serve any time behind bars.

Monday has the potential to be one of the most manic deadline days for a long time. Utd still have a bucket load of stuff to do, both in and out. And hopefully, we'll have a bit of interest on deadline day for a change.

Hugo Shecketer - player liaison officer?
S-Clarke replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
It's Javi MK2. -
At least Brek Shea could add some ammunition to our attack. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2348017/Brek-Shea-pictured-big-guns.html (sorry)

Well, that would be a pretty atrocious signing.

I don't think Komean was stating unrealistic in terms of player stature, but unrealistic because he's already done a deal elsewhere.

We are hearing that Manchester United have agreed a deal with Aston Villa for Tom Cleverley. A fee of £8million has been mooted for the England international. Wow, they actually are doing it.

Why do you talk as if the worst-case scenario is so likely to happen? Why will Forster 'inevitably' pick up a knock?
-
Not the sort we need to be honest.

Koeman confirmed today that Gaston isn't leaving.

Someone check what Lambert has been smoking.
-
Well that is positive.

It was 3-1 last year.

Not happy, more accepting of it. There's nothing we can do about it.

He was heavily monitored, and if he was still with us now and had started the season with us I'm sure he'd be in the squad. And if we're honest, he's performing at a higher level in the Champions League now. Not sure why people cannot just be happy about one of our quality academy players getting into the England squad. Accept we are a breeding group for the top clubs, and just take pride that we've developed them for the national side. The hatred of it all is quite odd.

I'd go with that. The reality of the situation these days. Didn't Les Reed say that he expects things to really move towards the end of the window, as the targets the 'big' clubs had are left in limbo? And that allows the likes of us to move? I'm sure it was either Les or Ralf who said that, obviously I'm less believing if it was Ralf who said it!

I'm really confused by some of the reactions here. It's clear that Hodgson cannot win. Last season we had Shaw, Lambert, Lallana, Rodriguez all in and around the England team - whilst they were Southampton players, it's the belief of a fair few that going on England duty pushed them away as they were tapped up, so understandably fans are totally against players getting a call up now in the fear that their heads will be turned. So now we see Clyne not selected, people are getting all arsey about it and saying that ''he obviously needs to move to a big club to get games'' - But that's simply not the case, the reality of the situation is that Chambers was in the team ahead of Clyne a lot last year, and although Clyne has had a decentish start to the season, he has made some pretty bad positional errors - he's not perfect. I'm really confused about the hatred towards Chambers, good young player who left for the bright lights of London - who wouldn't at that age? And would people please stop downplaying the ability of obvious quality players.

Got a link?

Still can't quite get my head around our actual manager, tweeting.

I think I can see where this thread is going.

The only problem is that he's not a Premiership player, he is truly out of his depth at this level. He's a great lad, a great personality to have around the place, but he's so out of his depth in the premiership. I kind of felt sorry for him at times.
