The Ryan Bertrand situation, whilst good for us that he doesn't mix with that lot, is so frustrating generally for decent enlgish players. He's been the stand out english left back in the league this season. Fiar enough LB is pretty strong for us, but in a situation where Shaw has been injured, Baines has been injured and Gibbs has been reserve...it was a perfect time for him. But whatever, keep going with the same old tried and tested dross.

Oh, but come on. Liverpool are revolutionary, they are re-designing English football as we see it. They've got a huge goal to reach in the top 4, so I'm sure an arrangement will have to be made. etc.

Luke Shaw - underwhelming season, sick note. Good player obviously, but hasn't done much. Baines - injured, has only just come back.... Gibbs - reserve at Arsenal. Bertrand - best most consistent left back in the league. Not really hard is it for most managers?
-
I'd say that Davis has been one of our most consistent performers since returning to the PL. I've never seen him have an abysmal or horrific game, he's always steady to exceptional. Needs to have a bit more of a goal threat, but every manager seems to love him as he's such a perfect versatile, agile and clever midfield player.

So if people don't want us in Europe, and they don't want to see us struggling every season, what do they want? Just bog standard 10th/1th finishes in the PL? If you stagnate like that then you'll end up with Villa, Sunderland and co in the wrong half. Realistically the Europa league is made for a club of our size. It's a realistic chance for progression as a club, it's an opportunity to grow - albeit small. I don't see really what's wrong with it, as long as we baulk the squad up to accommodate it. The away days in Europe will be great, my only experience is steaua all those years ago, and I'd love that again.

I fancy 15/16 points from the next 27 to get us a top 6 (inc. beating spurs). 20/21 points would take us into the 70+ region and that would probably get you a top 4 spot I'd think. but 15/16 points is the target for me. Finish around 65/66 points, beat spurs at home and 6th is pretty much done. That would be an epic season.

At 22 you'd have hoped he'd have made more of an impact by now. Reed, JWP, Targett are all younger and they've all made more of a first team impact. Maybe they just feel he's still got a bit of developing to do as he's a bit of a slow starter, it seems as if we're giving him as big as chance as possible. Not quite sure I see it happening for him though. Similar to Reeves, he just seems a tad too old to make it here now.

Here comes the love'in. I also read on RAWK the other day, which made me cringe a bit. They wanted us to beat Chelsea so bad, as they feel they can still win the league this year. What are they on there? Why do they live in this different dimension to anyone else? Fair enough they've been on good form, but so have a lot of clubs and their managers haven't been declared gods. I think Rogers needs to take a lot of blame for the start, he simply didn't know what to do with it all. He's somehow stumbled upon a formation though, not sure how that makes him a genius, as I'm pretty sure he didn't sign Emre Can (midfielder) to play as a CB or a RB, or Markovic to play as a left wing back. He's stumbled upon a formula and it works for now. That doesn't make him a genius, it makes him a bit of a botcher from an initial bad summer.

I can remember him being very highly rated during his Ajax days, but kind of fell off the radar a bit. I imagine Koeman had come in contact with him at some point during his time at Ajax when he was a young player, so could well be an option we're looking at. I can see the newspapers already starting up this story.
-
Thought he would have been on more than that actually, but I thought he'd fallen out of favour there. Has he ever been first choice at PSG? Can't remember him pulling up too many trees there.
-
He's on mega money at PSG. Think that puts him out of our ball park.
-
Maybe not direct assists, but his movement/quality down the right in attacks has lead to lots of goals for us in the last couple of years. But I agree with Trippier, I do like him. Full of energy, pace, epic delivery. Only part I'm not so sure about in him is defensively, but given that we wanted to sign him with Jay Rod 3 seasons ago, then I'm sure we've still got him on our 'list'. Based on our transfer policy over the last 4/t years, he ticks pretty much every box. Les Reed has his number I'm sure!

The terry inclusion was a WTF moment - esp. when he said the reason for putting terry in his team was because he nearly scored. He was actually all at sea most of the game. That weekly team of the week thing is just a joke article really. He is just a joke of a bloke, irritates the hell out of me.

Seriously, how in gods name have Swansea not scored?
-
Swansea have been absolutely fantastic, Liverpool have been woeful. But Swansea just haven't taken advantage...surely L'Pool can't be this horrific all game?

The 5-1 a few years prior to that, in our PL relegation season I think, was another depressing day. They were a bloody nightmare side for us for about 5 years.

Adkins on SSN this morning talking Saints and UCL/PL title

I wouldn't begrudge Ronald a move to Barca, I think he see's them as 'his' club, so it's a natural fit a few years down the line - not yet though, and he gets that. He's an honourable person and he will stick to what he said - he will finish his contract here, he's very bullish on that. And if he finishes his contract with us still pushing for top 4, then he deserves a crack at a huge club if it's available. MP was never committed long-term, he was only here for the chairman as he repeatedly said. He never quashed speculation or committed his future, he was sniffing for a new club for a good 50% of last season. -
That was such a depressing game. We were so, so crap back then. I mean look at the lineup from that game: Davis, James (Thomson 65), Lancashire, Cork, Mills, Smith (Pekhart 83), Lallana, Wotton, McGoldrick, Robertson, Surman. Subs Not Used: Bialkowski, Perry, Gillett. How low we sunk. That is a stinker of a team, bar a couple of obvious decent shining lights.
-
If he had all the qualities everyone wanted, he.would.not.be.here. End of story. Enjoy what you have, stop wishing for more.
-
Huge gamble. Not sure what sort of reaction they expect, and how many games will a new manager have anyway? As said above, the club is rotten to the core. Every manager they have seems to fail there, and there becomes a point where you have to look beyond the manager....the club needs to fall down to L1 like us, be stripped bare and started again.

Good old nige. Hope he gets a good job soon. -
We've been massively spoilt in the last 5 years with Rickie, an exquisite penalty taker. I'd suggest that we won't get one as good as that for a while, so don't heap too much pressure on Tadic. He scored it at the end of the day! A goal is a goal, scuffed, scrambled, shouldered in or whatever. As long as it's the back of the net and it gets us a result I couldn't care less.
-
Yeah, what the hell is that about. He well and truly bottled that one, and I'm not sure why. He went to his pocket...and then took his hand away. Why do that? Go with your gut instinct, don't be influenced by the mass of players - or in this case, the lack of players appealing. Jose knew, as he was subbed pretty much after that. Showed him to be quite weak as a ref.
-
How many times has he played as the lone striker though? I'd suggest he'd have a lot more goals if he played there more this year, but most of the time he's played wide of Pelle in a supporting role or hasn't even played at all! He's not had huge opportunities to regularly score goals, but when he's played he's always added a little bit extra and I've got no problem with that.
-
Let's be honest, they're a very limited side in terms of ability - but they play with a high tempo, a desire and a passion - that bridges the ability gap as we saw at City. They'll do the same against us. They're not the sort of side who can sit back and defend with 2 banks of 4, they like to attack and they have the perfect focal points up top to cause problems. But if we frustrate them and retain the ball we will create chances and hopefully we're a bit more clinical! This is the ideal home game to have on the back of a terrific draw. Arsenal are away at Newcastle and Utd and L'Pool play each other on the Sunday. So come this time next week, we could well be right back deep in the mix. We'll take this right to the death, but I'll say that Top 7 looks pretty much done whatever the outcomes.
