  1. 100%, cash on the turnstile , tax efficient not to declare it all as income was common practice
  2. Brilliant footage that mate, what I love about that era everyone loved the cup competitions, packed crowds, there was a real buzz about them, remember a similar game against Oldham that we somehow managed not to win. Any idea what the name of the lino was? I'm going to track him down and ask how much Luton had paid him
  3. Can't beat this for some Newcastle at home nostalgia
  4. Another classic was the home win 1995 heading for defeat we managed to conjure up three late goals with legends Shipperley, Watson and Heaney tearing them apart
  5. I used to go in the lower East benches as a kid , remember pirate Paul's stall produced some classic t-shirts, better than the official shop full of 'Saints - the spirit of Southampton' tat
  6. We'd still cash them in and buy Dixon and Speedie
  7. Wallace was so good at winning those penalties as well, great era that
  8. I don't think that's the intention, when they allowed Man Utd to create a women's team and dropped them straight into the top tier the plan was set, get as many big names in top division as possible and piggyback on their existing fan bases. The divisions are small with only 12 in each why not expand the top division?
  9. Not many of those would have started anyway , you could argue we're missing relatively more important players KWP , ABK and not sure if Lavia is ready to start yet
  10. They're incredibly smug at the moment, we still owe them one for the dirty tricks last season playing the covid card when they had a load of injuries before transfer window opened. In fairness to them they've sold out 3300 for Sunday 2pm, think there's train strike / engineering work again this weekend so good effort. Loads of home end seats still available not surprisingly although thought it might appeal a bit more being our last home league game for 7 weeks.
  11. Got to go straight to number one as our celebrity fan, who else is there? Clare Balding, Lucy Pinder, drummer from Coldplay?
  12. Just one up and one down, it's protectionist for the top tier and hardly encourages investment and mobility up the leagues. As things stand Bristol City are 5 points clear at the top and Coventry United are bottom having lost 7 from 7 , not saying it will happen but if Bristol pull away you could have promotion and relegation sorted with nothing for the rest to play for. Should have two up with first promoted automatically and then 4 teams in a play off keep the season interesting for fans.
  13. Two are due to be played at St Mary's
  14. Just put my whole bank balance on Saints to win when I saw that line up , surely it could even be double figures
  15. Good day at the office, if you worked in the city you'd be done for insider trading with that knowledge
  16. I tend to agree on Lyanco, I remember when we signed him Torino fans were pleased to see the back of him , was he our replacement for Wesley Hooedt? I remember his debut up at Sheff Utd in the cup last year, Oli McBurnie bossed him which was also a worrying sign
  17. How did today compare to our 1-0 defeats at Villa and Wolves?
  18. Need to get his mate Kuti to have a word with him. I reckon if Rishi goes to games he'd be more of a official travel club man with his flask and sandwiches rather than an all day session away day on the train so he's probably not bothered about the railworks
  19. Southampton Central closed all weekend as well again with buses to Eastleigh
  20. It's a fantastic appointment for Villa , he'll do well I think
  21. It's also at St Mary's, end of the half term holidays so would imagine a few will take the kids along
  22. Fingers crossed, although we only have three more league games before the world Cup anyway
  23. Could end up with loads of teams from 10th to 20th all on the same points , can see Leeds sacking their manager soon, already have Bournemouth, Villa, Wolves without a permanent boss in place
  24. Definitely impressive performance considering we had Livramento, ABK, AMN, Lavia, KWP out and Adams our best forward not fit to start. No idea on predictions for finishing though, anywhere from 10th to 20th is quite possible no obvious relegation candidates
