With the imbalance in the squad, we don't have much choice than go attacking.
I'd have Morgan and Cork sitting in front of the back 4 to give them some protection.
It's toxic once a manager starts to lose the dressing room, and only ever has one outcome.
Not that I'm saying this is necessarily the case with us at the moment.
I thought that when we got promoted, we should have employed an assistant for Adkins with tons of Premier League experience. A Jim Smith type figure who could advise Adkins on all the pitfalls of top flight football. A defensive coach would also have been good (they have been organised very poorly in my opinion. Rubbish on set-pieces with zonal marking, both full-backs getting sucked too close to the centre backs in open play, leaving massive gaps to exploit).
Sadly, any such appointment now will only undermine the manager. The only options are to back him 100% (privately, not the dreaded vote of confidence), or replace him.
On the plus side for Adkins - a team that can play a decent passing game. 2 promotions, the second of which was an outstanding achievement. Don't seem to have a problem scoring goals.
On the minus - errors in all four games so far this season, both with tactics and substitutions. Zero points after 4 games. A fragile defence that aren't great at defending set-pieces (this should be drilled into them), we seem to persist with zonal marking which just isn't working.
Difficult one to call. The fixture list has been terrible for the manager, to be fair. The main question I ask myself is will another manager get more out of our squad?
Adkins interview on Match of the Day sounded like he was begging for his job.
I reckon he's toast.
On balance he deserves a bit more of a chance, but we have a ruthless Chief Exec.
Whilst I don't agree with your opinion on Cortese and the Liebherrs' motivations, I do agree with you on his
single-mindedness. I reckon there's a chance you could be right on a sacking.
Uber fans on here who label anyone with a different opinion a bed wetter. I suppose it makes them feel hard.
Sorry for the disjointed post. Sausage fingers on an iPad.
I'm on the fence in the manager's debate.
The hysteria does make me laugh though. We used to go an amazing losing runs at The Dell, but always came up smelling of roses. But the rose-tinted brigade who say we always backed the team are talking out of their arses. I remember Chris Nicholl and his team taking terrible stick from the fans, as did the others.
It seems like we have
I'm not saying whether it's right or not, but I don't think Cortese will take the chance of keeping Nigel.
Very harsh, considering the excellent job he has done in the previous 2 seasons, but Nicola is pretty ruthless.
If he has lost confidence in the manager, he will waste little time appointing someone else.
