About that time (late 70’s/1980) Coventry were sponsored by Talbot Cars and the strip was designed to incorporate their logo. After a high profile fall out they had to have a different kit for TV. I think they also considered a name change to Coventry Talbot but that was also vetoed.

You’ve potentially answered your own question. Not that young players, and continental or South American imports have any tendency for a strop and sulk of course.
-
Yes, think you’re right.

I think one of the Dave Jones seasons might have been our greatest escape (97/98 ?). We had an awful start with some players going through the motions (Carlton Palmer seemed to down tools), and might have been the year of Scott Marshall O.G. Seem to recall we were in the bottom 3 for nearly the entire season, but over the year brought in Kachloul and then towards the end Pahars. Got out of the bottom 3 on the penultimate weekend, and Charlton dropped into it. (Still remember Curbishey grizzling on MOTD tat it wasn’t fair that we’d been there all season !). Beat Everton 2-0 at The Dell in the last game to stay up (Pahars scored both). Was also the season of Dellhurst Park.

And we paid how much for him ???

Credit to Selles for the improvements certainly, but we're grinding out the difficult points, but not the bread and butter ones you need to win.

I'll reserve judgement until the end of the season, although I still expect us to go down. As I see it: Stay up - the Board will offer him the job, and if he manages that he'll have deserved it from what he inherited. (concern re a repeat of the Hughes situation). Go down fighting - he'll start next season and we'll have the give him 10 games type of situation hanging over us (very Saintsy type of management from the top showing the dithering that has helped get us in this mess) Go down, with limp displays - 'thank you and we're looking elsewhere'. (but please don't let Rasmus W. Ankersen near the selection as he is probably the single most dominant factor in our demise this season).

Did you post similar after Wednesday ? Not sure they took to the field with the belief they could beat Brentford.

Refreshing to have a manager who supporters can get behind and isn't the subject of a campaign to oust.
-
So what’s your take on current events, and the team building Hotsaint ?
-
Diallo always reminds me of the Soft Cell record: Say Diallo, and wave goodbye .… … to three points, Premiership survival, etc (Not a song suggestion- don’t think a few thousand in the Northam mincing around to sing this would make a good sight).

Wrexham 1974, we did at least get to see a bloke from Coronation Street introduced to the crowd and run on the pitch at half time (what a knob). Nowadays we have light shows. Not sure which is better.

The turds that wouldn’t flush as we’ll probably lose the good ones and retain the others

He’s a flair player, or so we expect. Probably all fancy footwork and no end product. You’d have hoped Les and Wilson took their recruitment guide and Black Box with them. If they have then the Rasmus name generator doesn’t seem any better.

Can either cross a ball though ? The pacey winger is fine but seems to me the modern wide player just uses his speed without anything to show for it, either shot or cross. Getting in a good position and driving the ball at 100mph across the penalty area - at whatever height- in the hope someone gets on the end of it isn’t a “cross” in my book.

Options: We’re shit, and we know we are. The Rasmus Effect We’ve been Rasmussed.
-
Worry is that our scouting will be geared for Premiership so if we do, as likely, go down, have to hope Rasmus, Wilcox et al will be able to refocus that pretty rapidly.
-
Why is it going to be any easier for us to clear out the deadwood after relegation? They’re regarded as deadwood for a reason, and getting relegated isn’t going to make them any more attractive for someone to take them off our hands. There is the possibility that a relegation clause in their contracts might mean they won’t want to stay around for the reduced wage, but that in itself won’t see clubs queuing up for Ely, Djenepo and all.
-
Isn’t Wilcox a Rasmus appointment?
-
Yet he got us winning away, 3-1 at Man City, 4-1 at Wolves. A few results like that and I can ignore the egg splattered down his shirtfront in the post match interview.
-
Not even a L2 team have to stoop to playing with 10 men to make it more difficult for us.
-
Can’t even make claims over the catering. That’s crap as well.
-
So has does she reconcile that great football mind with our league position and shambolic management this season ? Stupid bint.
-
If this goes as badly as it seems after the last two games then Selles will be the second coach or manager who has been promoted beyond his ability, and suffers a career setback thanks to Rasmus this season.
