Even more disheartening.

Both of whom had two promotions to their name before joining us.

So, I'm not fully up to speed with some of the more modern phrases, but can someone clarify for me: does Russell Martin qualify as a hipster, or is he simply a hipster's choice of manager ? Would hate to get it wrong.
-
Some intersting points there. Are you saying that Carrick and Corberan were approached ? Of the other names you mention I see it as a balance of risk and reward . From what I've read of them Jaissie and Gallardo possibly offer a greater scope for improvement at the club, especially if they were to get us back up to the EPL but would cost more. Their inexperience of both English football in general and and the Championship in particular will be seen as a greater risk. As things stand it appears we've gone for what is probably seen as a steadier but less spectacular pair of hands (with the potential to improve). Of the other names you mention, I wouldn't have been against the idea of Mowbray who always struck me as a solid 'proper football man ' at heart. All opinions of course.

"managed decline" springs to mind.
-
Perfectly understood. But it doesn't mean I don't have concerns about his involvement given the muppetry we've seen from him to date.
-
Wonder if Semmens still considers Sports Republic the perfect partners and fit for the club's ethos.
-
Does have a bit of the Lee Hoos/Wilde et al feel to it all. I'm indifferent to some of the other names and roles, but this one gives me concern: Rasmus Ankersen will continue as CEO of Sport Republic, overseeing football strategy.

The league position doesn't matter.. Although they may want to rethink that when the financial implications hit home.

I said on another thread - in jest - that we’d try and recruit a back room or junior from City. Remain of the view we should ditch this fixation with trying to be City Lite. But also find it remarkable that we actually considered someone with less of a track record(or experience if I can use that word) than Martin. Not only do we go for a second Championship manager with little or limited previous success , we also consider promoting a second coach to the top job.

Don’t be so negative. We’ll see most of the current squad piss off. We’ve got money to spend and invest, the envy of the rest of the Division. Watch us assemble and train a new bunch of losers.
-
Average or bad start and the whole place will be under a cloud of despair and we’ll be back in the give him till end of October type of nonsense. Well done Rasmus, it was so avoidable.
-
Over the appointment of, or dismissal? I’ve criticised Semmens for things over the last couple of seasons, but when it comes to fuckwittery he seems eclipsed by Rasmus W. Ankersen.
-
Yep, agree. Eric gets my vote. Loved his ‘studs up’ approach when coming out to collect a ball. Osman is the only Russell I can think of playing for us. I was never a great fan, but he went up in my estimation on reading tabloid rumours that he knobbed Suzanne Dando in her prime.

Whatever turns you on Turkish, no need to hide your feelings, you’re among friends and we’ll support you.
-
Do you think Martin will be a more dapper sight on the touch line next season ?
-
Think it’s best to have a GK. You’re aware of the other options though ? But it was probably too little and too late to bring McCarthy back a week or so ago.
-
Thought I read somewhere (possibly on here) that someone else - can’t recall who- had been spoken to, but that was always a back up plan. Rumours on here also of Dyche being seen at a hotel near Aegeas Bowl about a month before Ralph left. No idea if either true, or if connected in anyway.
-
We might not ever know, or perhaps something will come out at a later date (Potter or Rodgers for example in an interview later in their career). But the club aren’t going to say they interviewed three/four candidates, and were rejected by two, passed on the other before their offer was made. Whatever the truth, whoever is appointed, will always have been our number one target.
-
Agree, but didn’t we try that with NJ, or perhaps the timing was wrong. I wonder what the reaction would be if we were appointing him now, having been relegated. A lot more enthusiastic I suspect.

This ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, is passing attacking football: No passes back to Katalinic you’ll note. For one thing they probably didn’t dare due to the standard of his kicking. Any excuse to post this and revel in it. Didn’t realise we’d recently passed the40th anniversary of this.
-
I was agreeing with your point rather than challenging it. As I see it the appointment of a Championship mid table manager with no previous promotions or success makes the selection of Jones (after his part in Luton’s rise up the league) credible. If Rasmus and SR had shown the Midas touch in earlier recruitment you’d be relaxed about it and expect the best. From most of what we’ve seen of them, prepare for more muppetry .
-
Have finished your sentence for you. For those old enough to remember it. (Did they sponsor Radio Luxembourg Top 40 in the 70’s ? Vague recollection.)
-
From the article, and viewing/hearing Swansea views I’m expecting tedium. Yes, would love to watch passing, attacking football. Those old enough to remember will recall it was the way Lawrie set up his best sides many years ago. But if you want an example of passing football then for me it’s the Saints goal v Liverpool 1983. Less than 20 passes, many one touch, moving from one end of the pitch to the other cutting Liverpool (possibly best team in Europe at the time) apart. That’s a world of difference from slowly recycling it at walking pace 56 times, to include around the back four and GK.
-
Lawrie had also won Div 4 with Doncaster a few seasons before, and I think the season before we nabbed him he had taken Grimsby (as a newly promoted team I think) into the promotion race in Div 3. Not too sure I'd want to use Dave Jones or Branfoot to support my case, but factually it's correct both had been promoted before arriving at The Dell.
