  1. Is this intended as a loan ?
  2. You might wish to rephrase that !
  3. Always sad to read of former Saints passing away. I didn't see either play, but I remember some of the older members of my family talking about George O'Brien and they rated him quite highly.
  4. This thread could be about Fabrice Fernandes, or Gaston... just change the name and insert...

    4th round draw

I was hoping a Scotsman (Armstrong) might have scored in injury time on Saturday for me to establish a good "omen". Perhaps I'll have to wait until we draw West Brom away in the Fifth Round now. Presumably, Spurs were regarded Cockerels. Theory buggered if Boro beat them though.

    4th round draw

'abject surrender' is harsh, but it was a fairly timid performance, as Saints and WGs were still scarred from the drubbing a Highbury a few weeks earlier. Although Saints rallied in the second half with a good shot from Ormerod, and a late Beattie header we didn't really take the game to Arsenal as we'd hooped, and our performances in earlier rounds suggested we might be capable of.
  8. ... and the best catering. Although I suspect the "best catering" has gone the same way as the Insurance Services and Radio Station.

    Che Adams

I heard a Leeds journalist on 5Live earlier. He said it was known up there that they'd like to bring Che Adams in on loan although due to the style of play Bielsa uses and preference for a single striker they wouldn't be able to guarentee him any more playing time than he gets with us so thought it would be "a hard sell" to convince him to go there.
  10. That's all some of our players are allowed, why should other clubs be allowed longer ?
  11. Good - but I'd still hope he, or even Nivea, have enough to beat the dugout pioneers.
  12. The gamble on Mahrez was c £450,000 though, but diffferent to £10m.

Northampton at home. Or a decent winnable away match, that isn't moved to a ridiculous time to suit tv.

    Danny Ings

At the moment the Ings move looks a success, but that doesn't alter the terms or timing of it. We contracted to buy a player with a history of injury at the end of the season no matter how he performed or whether he stayed fit. We didn't know if we were buying a 20 games a season player, never mind his goalscoring. That remains a ludicrous bit of business given our resources. Perhaps leaving it to the last day or so of the transfer window enabled Liverpool to add this additional term knowing our desperation at the time. Lets hope he stays injury free, so then even the Teflon coated Reed can bask in the reflected glory of it.

    Che Adams

If he doesn't start today, then why wait until the summer ? Assuming we can move him on and recover some of our outlay. Accept your point but RL was a pretty high benchmark to judge against. As great as he was he had the advantage of already being established in a settled side with momentum and confidence when we arrived in the PL. Seem to recall Pelle had all of about 40 minutes to convince the home crowd he was an able replacement by the time many had determined he probably wasn't. But we haven't managed to adequately replace Pelle never mind RL.

    Danny Ings

I wouldn't even consider cashing in now, although if he maintains this form and goalscoring rate he may fancy another opportunity at a "big 6" club come the summer. Seem to recall that Liverpool inserted a sell on clause when they offloaded him. Another great piece of business by Bunsen the uber cretin.
  17. Be surprised if Gunn doesn't start tomorrow.
  18. Yes of course. Probably why the Paul Allen bid failed, when we declined to send some fringe player to Seattle in 2007. Makes sense now.
  19. Hope one is for crocking Vardy and ruling him out of the Carabao Cup Semi - Final Second Leg, and Final then...
  20. More that people are desperately seeking a conspiracy that Red Bull are waiting to move in to St Mary's some time soon.
  21. I recall that comparison being made in his early days, about the same time he was considered better than Maguire (after a single game at St Mary's vHull).

    Che Adams

Unusual for me perhaps to show patience, but I wouldn't give up on Adams. He's shown some decent qualities but of course not the crucial one of getting the ball in the net... yet. Remember how many wrote Mane off in his first few months.
  23. Similar to you, I'm not a great fan especially when chances fall his way, and am quick to criticise him, but he does offer something to the team in terms of pace and just being an irritant to the opposition which others don't have. For that reason alone I'm pleased he remains part of the squad. At some stage he may even have one of his mini 'goal rushes' again over the course of a few games. Lon term he should be replaced, and I doubt we'll offer to extend his contract which I think comes to an end at the end of the season.
  24. I don't know where it has come from recently, but it was mentioned almost in passing on here about a month ago. As I recall it was in the form of how we might be bought from the current owner rather than even a suggestion but the name RB has since done the rounds on here and the UI. I'd be surprised if there is any substance to the rumour. A few years ago the prospect of 'corporate ownership ' was met with outrage when suggested on here, but after the reality of being cash strapped under an owner like Gao I'd be more relaxed about RB, Ineos or such like. There was an RS Southampton for a while who climbed the non league pyramid before folding (and selling us Staplewood in the process). This article refers to the full name Road-Sea Southampton, but I'm sure at one point they dropped the full name to comply with league regulations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Road-Sea_Southampton_F.C.
  25. Trouble is we've been here before at the start of the January window; manager wanting/hoping for player(s) to be signed early, only to be let down by whoever being unable 'to get it over the line'.
