Le Fondre - No Goal & J Rod Should Have Been Sent Off
Badger replied to Gemmel's topic in The Saints
I remember the days when we were linked with signing Le Fondre (£350,000 eventually) rather than Rodriguez, England U21 for £6m. Le Fondre probably remembers those days as well. So, no reason to be bitter, other than losing. -
Totally agree. I remain of the view that the backbone of the squad should remain English/British to maintain the 'team spirit' etc with exceptional talent brought in from EU & elsewhere, rather than a collection of mercenaries. (no doubt this will spark the usual outcry). I do however expect to this to change though, with several Spanish, South American players joining in the summer.

But the press have now 'discovered' Rodriguez, and he has been linked with Liverpool.
-
Linked in January. He certainly sounds ideal, age, height, future etc.A major drawback though seems to be - if this is the same player - that he is jointly owned by Bologna and another Italian club, which as we saw with Ramirez tends to complicate the issue.
-
Rather it be Villa, or West Ham tbh.

Fred Gee's slimmer brother.
-
Think he needs a quiet word about the choice of colour scheme here.

For me the best goal award is : team goal : Channon v Liverpool as shown above, individual goal : MLT v Newcastle 1994 (?) when he strolled through their defence and stroked the ball in One of my greatest and fondest memories though is KK's overhead 'goal' , 5/12/81. What a team - Keegan,Channon,Ball,Armstrong,Williams, Golac.

How is this saved onto a pc ?
-
Superb. How do I download this ? Have tried but only saves first btwo seconds. Not what I wanted to refer to. Will try again.

I think you've confused him with another newscaster James Mates. Clive Myrie James Mates. An easy mistake to make.

Seems an even more obscureDutch. player than Tsheu La Ling (or whatever his name was) to have played for us, although I'm not sure if TLLing was ever formally recorded as having played for us, other than in an Echo report.

After 8 games, what are your thoughts...
Badger replied to Dibden Purlieu Saint's topic in The Saints
I'm reasonably content with MP as a successor to NA, although still don't believe the change was necessary, or has been a major improvement. There are many comments on this thread that I agree with, most recently this one : We had seemed to turn a corner, and were heading in the right direction under NA, both the decision , and timing were ridiculous. MP in some ways looks impressive in his approach, and high level pressing up the field etc, but as others have pointed out 2 wins in 8, is not a good return. To those looking forward to progress under MP, or even next season with him, I'd say don't get too excited, as it remains to be seen how long MP will remain here - I have my doubts on that one. This is purely hypothetical, and we will never know, but over a 3-5 year period I feel we would progress further with NA being allowed to build, rather than a change in January 2013, and then a couple of times more in the next 3-4 years when NC feels the need. -
Any idea if the Liebherrs have attended recently, or if indeed they still do ?
-
Yes, height of 1970's fashion. ICONIC - to me at the time.

Thinking back over the years: Ted Bates - & co, imcl John Mortimore used to appear in team photos wearing Hush Puppies, Jimmy Gallagher (was he a coach, or physio ? in a white lab coat) Lawrie - dawning of a new media age., full length leather coat ( I had to have one !!), and the 'Burton's ad' with Bobby Robson. Chris Nichol - never stood a chance following Lawrie, and always looked 'man at C&A' to Lawrie's emaculately groomed appearance. Branfoot - don't remember really, sometimes suited, sometimes a Cloughesque sweat shirt, no one gave a sh!t what he wore as it was all so depressing Bally - the legend of the cloth cap. Can't really remember those who followed on this front, perhaps we are now in the sponsored bench coat era.
-
You left out Graeme Souness, probably the most vain and style concious manager manager we've ever had.
-
I don't really remember the game (end of 1968/69 season) as I really got into football the following season, but I do recall some photos of Neil Young's goal , and Man City's kit which I thought was quite grand at the time, from the early editions of Shoot magazine. 'My' first FA Cup Final then was Chelsea v Leeds in 1970, with the replay. Wanted Chelsea to win, we all hated Leeds then (as now). Funny that !

If Cheese on Toast had not been banned, it might have been interesting for him to respond to this.

Yes, but their loveable scouse wits, so thats alright. Did you see any carrying the Jimmy Tarbuck Jokebook with them ? And disappointed we did not have a minute to observe 'Justice for the 96' etc.
-
Agree with Appy. When we replaced Ramirez with JWP V QPR, we seemed to lose momentum and any remaining attacking threat.

I wonder if the last bloke will end up taking the Vatican to a tribunal over the terms following his departure

I always had doubts about someone called Julius entering the football world. Seemed as unlikely as a man called Rupert fitting in to it. But what of a man called Nicola ?
